Description

In this chilling remake of The Omen, man's darkest fears are manifested as an unspeakable terror is unleashed on the world. U.S. diplomat Robert Thorn (Liev Schreiber) substitutes an orphan for his own stillborn baby in order to spare his unknowing wife (Julia Stiles). But after a series of grotesque murders and dire warnings, the Thorns come to the horrifying realization that their child is the son of Satan!

Watch the original instead

Scene for scene remakes always seem very pointless to me. Whilst this film adds in its own interesting elements to rework the classic original film, these minor changes simply aren't enough to justify making this very lukewarm remake that somehow also tries to convince us that Prague is London (?!?). Ditch Liev Schrieber, Julia Stiles and this very annoying child and go watch Gregory Peck and Lee Remick in Richard Donner's original, masterful version instead!!

All the same

All horrors are the same. This one though gives you the entire plot in the first 3 minutes for some reason. Therefore there is no suspense and you know only bad things are going to happen, and more disappointingly, why they happen. No suspense/shock other than the loud noises etc.

Omen

Good film... Nowhere near as good as the original which IMO only the Exorcist beats it as the scariest film EVER! Worth a rent just too see how it rates with the original.

Better than average remake

Not a patch on the original though! Why on earth did they dispense with the soundtrack from the original?

Good buy why?

That this is a good film isn't in debate at all in my mind.
My issue is that since it is a direct remake of the Richard Donner film so it adds nothing but money to peoples bank accounts.
Its fine to watch until you get the 1976 version which is worth it just for the soundtrack and the creepy smile in the final shot.

The Omen

There have been so many remakes recently of the classic horror film, that anything original fails in comparison. The Omen is a brilliant thriller and it is a descent remake. The acting is great and the story is creepy and full of tension throughout the film. There are some gory, disturbing death scenes and Damien is as creepy as ever. If you like this film then do check out the original.

At last a decent remake

For once Hollywood has not ruined a classic with a remake. They have done a good job with The Omen. Would recommend seeing the original first
