Description

In a family of heroes, young Alan Tracy (Brady Corbet) is always being left out. While his father, billionaire and former astronaut Jeff Tracy (Bill Paxton) and his four elder brothers are busy saving the world, Alan's biggest challenge is saving his grade point average at boarding school. And what's worse, he can't even tell his schoolmates that his dad and brothers are better known as the fearless adventurers behind the top-secret organization International Rescue – called in to save those in need whenever disaster strikes. Alan dreams of joining his family one day in their global vocation and even getting into the driver's seat of one of the awesome, incredible machines the Tracy's utilize in their life-saving work: the Thunderbirds. Back home on Tracy Island - a secret oasis in the South Pacific and headquarters to International Rescue – Alan and his friends, the brainy Fermat (Soren Fulton) and the adventurous Tin-Tin (Vanessa Anne Hudgens), are left behind again as his fearless father and brothers are deployed on a fake mission by their arch nemesis The Hood (Sir Ben Kingsley). The master criminal takes control of Tracy Island and the Thunderbirds, and this time it falls to Alan and his friends to come up with a plan to defeat The Hood and rescue his family… oh, and save the world while they're at it.

Better than people say.

This really isn't nearly as bad as people make out. Yes it's not absolutely brilliant but it's not completely awful. I know a lot of people don't like that its told from a teenagers point of view, but I personally like that approach in films better. I think it gives it a lot more depth and backstory. But I think in order to have a bigger impact I think it needed to be longer and feature the other characters more, although I wouldn't have liked it if they had been strictly the main focus of it, although fans of the show probably would have. I think it would have lacked the background story and depth and would have been all about the action instead . The three main characters, in particular- Alan, are really likeable and relatable, so that's probably one of the more positive things about the film. Sophia Myles is pretty great as Lady Penelope as well. Plus I've always loved the Busted song that plays at the end credits.

Brilliant

Brilliant film and casting. Lady Penelope and Parker were fantastic and Thunderbirds 1 and 3 looked the same. Can'y wait for the 2015 CGI Revival on ITV 1.

Cool🐼

Honestly I like this movie. I don't see what the problem is. Think, they had to get all the machines into the storyline. Yes it would have been nice to have a bit more of the other boys, but I have watched the movie several times and still enjoy it. :) 🐼

Ignore bad reviews - perfect for youngsters first action films

My 4 & 5 year old boys could watch this again and again (and do!). Ignore the bed reviews because they are probably just the wrong audience - it's not James Bond but its a perfect introduction to action films for children.
The vilian is pantomime evil rather than cruel so they get the thrill of action without being too scared.

Bad; REALLY bad

Completely misses what the original TV show was about. I wanted this to focus more on the rescues element, and the clever machines.
The Tracy sons (with the exception of Alan) barely make an appearance; with only one of the sons (John) being associated with a particular Thunderbird.
Time and focus could have been better placed on suspense and gadgets - that's what has captivated generations of kids over the years. If those elements have served the brand for so long, why try to move away from it...? If it ain't broke.........
If you want to introduce your kids to the Thunderbirds, please don't use this film

Well I thought this was pretty good! What's all the fuss!

After looking at the mixed reviews on this film I figured that there's probably a good chance I'd enjoy this film. I bought it, watched it, and enjoyed it. Okay it's never going to make my top 10 top movies list, but I'd like to stress that this is movie intended for a young audience as was the original Thunderbirds series. So if you're an adult who fondly remembers the original show just ask yourself if you'd never seen the original show and somebody asked you to watch one of the episodes .. do you think you would like it? Probably not .. you'd probably think "This is a kids show". Well it is, and so is this movie.
That being said, if you're aware of this pitfall and you can just bring yourself to relax and enjoy a bit of an escape, then this is fine movie. I thought it was well made, the actors seemed to me to be right for the parts. Only gripe I have is that the 4 kids (Scott, Virgil, John and Gordon) are rather difficult to tell apart and they are rather background characters in the story .. whereas they were the cornerstone of the original series. The main focus of course being on Alan .. which is fine, even the original show did that from time to time. Bill Paxton is always awesome and I enjoy seeing him in anything. The bad guy is expertly played by a guy who we've seen doing WAAAAAY bigger bad guy stuff in other movies so it's nice to see a more tongue in cheek version and he seemed perfect for the roll. And Ron Cook who plays parker .. OMFG!, if he isn't Parker .. nobody is! Perfect casting.
Okay so the Rolls Royce is now a Ford .. big deal .. it's Pink and flies .. that's all it needs to do. If BMW (who own Rolls) would have said yes to being in the movie then all would be well, but they didn't, so Lady P's car is a Ford!Thunderbird 1 looks awesome, nice job on that one boys. Thunderbird 2 is a bit of a bathtub, but then again it suits it's purpose and job. Thunderbirds 3, 4 and 5 are pretty much what they should be so no gripes there. Only real gripe I have with this movie is the boring music score provided by Hans Zimmers company (Yeah sure .. like Hans actually writes anything anymore!). I wish they had given this job to a british composer who knows Barry Gray's style and would have given us the 'zing' that the original Thunderbirds music had. Instead the music is just very middle of the road .. so-so .. meh! But then again most of you people watching the film wouldn't know a music score if it bit you in the a** so lets not worry about it ey!
Jonathon Frakes (Cmdr. Riker!) has done a nice job directing this and I hope he does more movies in the directorial seat soon. Again, this is a kids movie. So if you're an adult just remember who this movie is for. It's NOT for you if you 'grew up' watching the original show. It's for your kids .. please remember this!
I loved it anyways, and I did grow up watching the original show (Well the repeats anyways). I'd rather watch this than the sh*t they have on TV these days, at least this entertained me!

Everything I loved about thunderbirds

Thunderbirds was never about interesting plots, suspense or action. It was about unbelievibly cool gadgets! And this film remembered that. I'm not bothered about the origional characters. What I loved about thunderbirds was spaceships that came out of frickin swimming pools!!!! It's cheezy and ridiculous but so was the origional series.

What a shame we can't rate MINUS stars... This film is beyond reprehensible ...a mammoth waste of time effort and vast amounts of money.. Avoid at all costs!!

Good... but not amazing

Whilst it's nothing like the actual series and episodes made in the '60s, it is still a pretty decent, modernised film version. Those who wish of the real, puppert Thunderbirds will not get what they want. But those who don't mind a slightly cheesy, cliche version of Thunderbirds who like a hint of disaster, and in the modern times, you'll enjoy seeing this.
