Description

From director Wes Anderson comes his adaptation of beloved children's author Roald Dahl's novel about a fox battling angry farmers. Devil-may-care Mr. Fox (voice of George Clooney) quits chicken thieving to start a family with Mrs. Fox (voice of Meryl Streep). Twelve years later, he leaves his columnist job to rob poultry from three mean farmers who then devise a plan to trap Mr. Fox and others in the burrowing animal community. With his friends and neighbors, Mr. Fox saves his animal community and beats the farmers at their own game.

I am a serious fan of Roald Dahl so approach film adaptions of his books with caution. This was better than I could have imagined. I watched it with my two young daughters who loved it but I can't help feeling it has even more to offer to its adult viewers. Not sure how voicing an animation can be so good but I think George Clooney was destined to be Mr Fox.

Roald Dahl must be turning in his grave. Fantastic Mr Fox is in my opuion one of his best stroies and this made me think 'What were they thinking???!!!' This is one of the worst films I have seen and I have seen some shockers. Don't waste your money settle down with nice animated pixar or disney instead.

Although a strange mix of English and American culture, this is a charmingly beautiful adaptation of a great book.

New favourite film.

Let us start with Roald Dahl - quintessentially English. This is based on an English book that is beyond words. I still love to read the story, and I'm 16. I feel that the magic of Dahl and the illustrations by Quitein are truly 'fantastic'.
So why, why, why use such (as themovieshackman says) 'counter-current animation' which oozes loveliness, keep so close to the plot (for a film - very good) and go and ruin it with American actors?? Please, not everything needs to be "Hollywood".

Great book, bad movie

What could have been... well, fantastic was quickly spoilt by poor animation, underdeveloped characters, absurd logic and severe lack of faith to the original source material. It did give us one decent quote however, in the form of "That's just weak song writing! You wrote a bad song, Petey!" (It makes sense in context) and I can't fault the acting, especially of Bean. This is just my opinion, so check it out if you want.

The book is so much better than the film in my opinion.
It's different from most of the films out there - and I had about a five second
laugh half way through the film, but really, it's not what it's cracked up to be.
Don't buy it, rent it.
I hope you enjoyed it more than me!

Fantastic (see what I did there)

I'm not interested in these tiresome comparisons between the film and the book, enjoy it for what it is; a refreshing mix of eclectic and quirky style, resulting in a well rounded and comforting film.

It should never have been made to a movie!

Fanstastic Mr Fox is a great book but they have ruined it by making it a film . I sat through that film and I never yawned soo much in a cinema in my whole life!

Not at all what I expected, bizarre but brilliant!

If you think this is an animation for the kids, think again! I bought as Fantastic Mr Fox was my favourite childhood story. My feeling is that you'll either love this film or hate it. Those who get it will love it, those who don't were probably expecting a Disney style animation film, and that is not what this film is at all. In Some ways the film is really quite surrealistic with some very bizarre moments and dialogue that don't seem to relate to anything. The result is something really different from the norm, and a great film for an adult audience.
My young children won't like this film, and if you're expecting it to be geared towards young children I suggest you don't buy it, but for anyone who likes something a bit quirky, it is fantastic!

As fantastic as the book

Kind of wanted to see this at the cinema but never got round to it. It surpassed my expectations. It was never supposed to BE the book it was a going to be a new story.
Ok. So it's not an all singing all dancing 3d IMAX spectacular. Would mr Anderson ever do that. Probably not. The story is obvious but the under currents are very human and easy to relate to. For those who don't understand the meditating fox. Why also then are they wearing clothes. It's called anthropomorphism. Look it up.

Un-fantasic

Rubbish animation and really badly done puts stop motion animation back years - if you gave people £10.99 to take it off your hands they would still say there was robbed.
Singlehanded almost destroyed a really popular book - guess they will need to change the title of the book to try to salvage the book from the train wreak of a movie.
Shame you can have no star rating as 1 star is a way to much

Let's keep it simple:
• Best direction of stop motion ever
• Perfect cast: Clooney excels.
• The music is the bow on top
• Colours are autumnally rich in every frame
• Not for kids but that's a good thing right?
• Petey's Jarvis dance is incredible
Verdict: Buy it

Inaccurate adaptation, but Fantastic

Far from Fantastic

Rented for a bit of fun, but was thoroughly dull and a waste of my £3.49.
The annoying whistle-click the fox does is wholly unnecessary and detracts from the "story". George Clooney overacts throughout (trying to replay Danny Ocean perhaps?) and there is a dull power-struggle between the two young foxes. A meditating fox - which lunatic decided to put that into the story? I don't remember that from the book!
I would save your pennies. In fact buy the book, or a story tape of the book.

Brilliant artwork and writing!

This movie is really good and people say that their kids hate it
As a kid I loved it and found the plot and characters were done brilliantly
But just because this movie is PG dosent mean that it is for kids
There are movies that are meant for adults that are rated PG
So with that i leave my opinion
You may not like it but I did
Leave a comment if you agree

Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009)

Wes Anderson has created a wonderfully counter-current animation, easily my favourite of 2009, which oodles charm in every frame. The level of authenticity achieved by recording the all-star cast's voices in appropriate locations (such as chicken coops, burrows) combined with the stylishly exaggerated English countryside is a treat for all. Dahl fans will not be tearing their hair out (if they can forgive the American accents), as the storyline is roughly intact, although expanded. That said, the story is firmly in the backseat to the goregeous, meticulously detailed animation. The best performances go to Schwartzman as Ash, and Dafoe as the dangerous, spaghetti western - referencing Rat. Clooney and Streep provide a remarkably believable romance given the circumstances. There have been complaints that Fantastic Mr. Fox is not so much a kid's film, and it is true that the appeal is directed at a slightly older audience. However, for it's sumptuous look alone, Fantastic Mr. Fox is a treat which will inspire and delight alike.
