OK so I went to see this during the six nations so I was slightly more pumped for rugby but at the same time I didn't have very high hopes for the film, it's a film about rugby, about politics and about unity.
The film runs at a reasonable pace, there's a lot to fit in, but give it time, if you turn it off during the first half hour then it would be sad but understandable, as the film progresses you will find yourself getting more and more engrossed in the characters and the games, you'll start to care about the fates of the people involved and by the final (that's the final of the 1995 rugby world cup) you will start willing the passes, the drop goals, the runs and the tackles and start engaging mentally with the game.
As far as the actors are concerned the choices are surprisingly good in the case of Matt Damon as Francois and obvious in the case of Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandella (although the latter occasionally slips up with the South African accent).
Aesthetically this film is pleasing, the backdrops, sets and locations are bright and easy to watch.
Overall this film is fantastic, and I would say it's one of the better films of 2010.
