Description
ZULU is one of the great movies, an epic adventure of courage in the face of incredible odds. Based on a true story it tells the amazing tale of 100 British soldiers who stood fast against an overwhelming force of 4,000 of the Zulu nations mightiest warriors in the defence of Rorkes Drift in 1879. Superbly photographed in Technirama, few other movies have grippingly captured the tension and terror of combat as wave upon wave of warriors is unleashed on the tiny garrison. Set amongst stunning South African scenery, ZULU is a landmark action film and a fitting tribute to some of the most magnificent acts of heroism in the history of warfare. Michael Caine’s role as the arrogant but courageous Lt. Bromhead brought him international fame, and there are powerful performances from other great British actors including Stanley Baker and Jack Hawkins.

Saw this film at its release in 1964 at the age of 9 with my dad at the pictures. It has truely haunted me ever since, seen it many times. The British army at its very best, who else in the world would have made a stand against overwhelming odds.

I have never read a bad review on this film - says it all really! An all-time classic which will never age. Remember going to see this film as a boy at the Washington cinema in Penarth, South Wales soon after it came out and have probably watched it more than twenty times since and it still gives me goose bumps when they sing 'Men of Harlech'.

Nobody with Welsh blood (as I have) can possibly watch the scene where the Welsh soldiers sing "Men of Harlech" in the face of thousands of Zulus without the tears coming. In a world filled with CGI effects and 'here today, gone tomorrow' film stars this will always remain a truly awesome film.

Brilliant film, classic!! Pity that Zulu dawn (1979) film was crap ( was based on the battle of ilsanduawna the battle before rorkes drift then again it was an american production, shows that they don't know anything about British history!!

A true Classic I have been watching this since I was a young kid with my Grandfather I have loved it since I hope I ain't the only Person that thinks that they should never do a remake of this

There are few films that I could watch over and over again without it becoming weary.....this is one of them. The acting of everyone (and not just the main characters) is superb, and the scenery is beautiful beyond words. It is also good to see that even though the time of filming was rife with apartheid and segregation in the world, that the Zulus themselves are portrayed very accurately as a tribe that were amazingly brave with brilliant military tactics....and not savages! Five stars!

This is a brilliant and gripping film. The story is based on a true scenario aand the filming is extremely well shot. Few other films really bring out the same sense of danger and courage. This film also includes lovely songs. I would say this is a movie to buy!

I watched part of this in a history lesson and then by coinsidence it was being played on film 4. I thought it was very realistic and the actors were amazing, well worth buying if you're interested in history like me.

A true classic. No CGI here just many extras, the tension builds up well and the action once it begins is unrelenting. A film of it's time, excellent acting and beautifully filmed. Well worth buying.

Fantastic film lots of action. Have visited Rorkes Drift in South Africa and visited museum of this event in history. Great acting from all. Give this film 5stars.
