Description

From the writer of Control, Nowhere Boy is the story of John Lennon's childhood... Liverpool 1955: a smart and troubled fifteen year-old is hungry for experience. In a family full of secrets, two incredible women clash over John (Aaron Johnson). Mimi (Kristin Scott Thomas) the buttoned-up Aunt who raised him, and Julia (Anne-Marie Duff), the prodigal mother. Yearning for a normal family, John escapes into the new and exciting world of rock n' roll where his fledgling genius finds a kindred spirit in the teenage Paul McCartney. Just as John begins his new life, tragedy strikes. But a resilient young man finds his voice - and an icon explodes into the world.

First film that has made me shed a tear in a long time, I didn't know anything about JL's childhood and didn't read anything about the film before watching it. Quite nice to watching something without any pre-conceptions or expectations of it. Great storey, well told with very good acting, i particularly strong was Aaron Johnson.

Good acting and a good storyline make this an incredibly pleasant film which is suitable for anybody. However, this film should not be used as a source of information as it is historically incorrect in several instances.

This film is absoloutly amazing. The roles were cast amazingly, as Arron Johnson suits the role, and so does Thomas Sangste.

A really superb British film with some outstanding acting. A wonderful insight into Lennon's early life and what, in effect, made him the man he was. Highly recommended for an enjoyable evening in front of the small screen. Suitable for all types of film goers.

A really good film, as someone who has listened to the beetles quite a lot but never looked or thought to look into the early days of John Lennon this was a good british film which makes you more interested in the band!!!! The acting was of a high standard and the soundtrack was fitting. Defiantly worth watching for both Beetles fans and British film fans!!!

Brilliant film, brilliant man.

This film is a heart-renching, emotional, exciting and inspirational film about a boy who just so happened to grow up into the brilliant man we know as John Lennon.
Parts of it are inaccurate but it's a film not a reconstruction. Highly recomended.

So inspirational

The guy who plays John Lennon did an amazing job! His voice, his accent were spot on. Really enjoyable easy watching drama, that gives an insight in to the early years of a young Lennon.

How can people give films 5 stars without even watching it, it goes on too much on I-tunes, it's called a review. Please have a say once you've watched the film.

which then later turned into 'The Beatles'

EXCELLENT. What more can I say? Aaron Johnson plays the role of John Lennon with sheer brilliance a young & great actor to watch out for in the future. Most people will think its only a film about "The Beatles" well you couldnt be further from the truth, its a great well acted, scripted and well produced film about growing up with hardship, dreams, and finding your way through life. Truelly amazing even if you're not a Beatles fan. Be warned it'll certainly bring a tear to the eye.
10/10 for this film.
It does not even mention "The Beatles".
A truelly well acted moving piece of work. Great bonus for Beatles fans old & new the soundtrack is superb.

Aaron Johnson is going somewhere.

This film is really very good from the screenplay to direction to supporting actors. But what i was seriously impressed by was Aaron Johnson's performance. Just for this alone is the film seriously worth a watch.
But i should warn you that this is not a 'documentary' and it does go off on a tangent. But who cares? because when you watch it is apparent that it is more a movie about growing up, the hardships of family and reaching for ambitions than about john lennon. This is why i think it approached the film from a good angle.

There was criticism about the film, but I actually think it was really good. Good enough for Beatles fans AND people who haven't really got into them properly. Aaron Johnson does a great job and the soundtrack is fabulous - I love that they don't EVER mention the Beatles too... put they have Paul McCartney in there too. I honestly really, really like the film :) The ending is pretty heartbreaking too.
