I cannot rate this more than one star. I'm not against Shakespeare being modernised, this surely is the reason why his plays have endured. They do withstand the trial of time. So why change it? The script that is. The comedy is completely removed. Oh yes, there is comedy, just remember the porter shambling to the gate after Duncan's murder. It's the light we need to appreciate the darkness. "Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow ... " is removed and reinserted as an epilogue, spoken by whom? In the original script it comes after Macbeth learns of his wife's death. This is his characters change - introversion after extroversion. Necessary to be rightly placed. The filming is too dark to the point where often one cannot see what is happening at all. The characters are too dramatic, too melodramatic maybe. The staging is too moody as is the music. Light sabres? Please!!! All in all too much. I struggled to stay awake through it wishing only that I'd rented it and not bought it. I look forward to reading other postings. Someone has to like it!
