Description

Tommy (Steve Braun) is a sexy, blond, gay activist who meets the handsome, muscular Alan (Larry Sullivan), a closeted Republican, at a party in 1973. An intense love affair ignites, setting in motion a torrid and unpredictable relationship that steers its way through the turbulent political and social climate of the '70s and '80s. The Trip blends farce and tragedy, fantasy and reality, and features a quirky cast of supporting characters including indie-fav Alexis Arquette, comedienne Julie Brown and former Bond-girl Jill St. John as Alan's outrageous mom.

Fantastic, one of the best!

I can't believe that I only stumbled upon this film by accident. It's a film I think I will rave about for years a film that will take a proud place in my collection. It has something for any lover of good gay cinema - a great cast, wonderful script and a very cool 70's / 80's soundtrack. I ask you to grab yourself a big bottle of drink, turn off the lights abs the phone, sit back to be totally entertained to laugh be thrilled and choked up by this perfect piece of film making. I will sleep tonight having watched this with a warm glow inside and a smile on my face. I just wish more films could be this fantastic.

Worth watching a good Sunday picture!

The two lead actors are very good. Although the story is a little patchy it dose enough to hold your attention.

Above average tale

The title suggests that this may be a gay road movie. And while in the closing act of the film there is a long (and eventful) journey by car, there are a couple of other meanings to the title, too: from the film's opening during the drug-laden 1960s, to the emotional journey of Alan (Larry Sullivan) – from a closeted Republican who writes about homosexuals in a derogatory manner to becoming a well-rounded, happy gay who finds his soul mate, loses him before finding him again.
A couple of over-the-top caricature performances from Alexis Arquette and Jill St John threaten to overbalance a film that works better when its comedy is gentle and knowing - but overall, this is an enjoyable and moving comedy drama that hits far more often than it misses, helped by the two central performances from Sullivan and Steve Braun.

The Trip

you know when you see gay movies mainstream you tend to think the acting is always 2nd rate and a bit cheesy but i was pleasantly surprised by this film though one of the leads acting could have been better it does not spoil the film. worth the rental fee.

Don't Hesitate

It's funny, it's cool, it's sad but above all, it's beautiful.

A Wonderfl Gay Love Story

This is, by a country mile, the best gay film I have seen for a long time. A captivating and honest film that really touches the heart; it tells of the havoc that internalised homophobia can wreak on a great love affair - but don't think it heavy. Yes, it ends poignantly but it is a story of love and happiness told with wit and is ultimately hopeful.
