Probably the worse film ever filmed

As soon as I see a film thats filmed in in LA I think cheap and nasty. The special effects were ok but the plot and characters really!

The only thing this has in common with Independence Day is big spaceships, nasty aliens and deadly blue lights. Sure it draws inspiration from ID4, War of the Worlds, Cloverfield and at risk of spoiling the film (if that were possible) District 9. The special effects are great and the trailer is decpetively good. The film starts out with promise and it has bags of potential which are just never fulfilled. However the dreadful script, weak plot, bad acting and poor directing make this a waste of time and money. I gave this an extra star for the special effects.

Given its potential this is a hugely frustrating film, I want to like it but it's so poor I just can't.

Rumour has it this is to be part of a trilogy (please no more). If you want a good sci-fi stick with the films I Mentioned earlier or Monsters.

He gets captured, his brain is put in an alien and then he saves his gf...there! No need to see it now....total kack!

I seriously don't know why people are dissing this brilliant movie. Ever since the trailer back in 2009/10, I have always wanted to watch this. Saw it once on TV, a year later, bought it. (<-- I have no idea why that's nessecary) Awesome film. Definatly recommend.

Alien meets War of The Worlds meets Battle for Los Angeles, the only difference is that they were all worth watching!. If anything this film is proof that you can't make a film and expect the special effects alone to carry it through.

Well I thought it was pleasantly entertaining, it had great idiot munching aliens and plenty of "evil dead" humour!

There are no words to describe how bad this film really is. Any reviewer that gives this more than one star or anyone that thinks it wasn't that bad is either blind, deaf or both.

It is a shocking TV movie at best trying to pass for a star turn at a cinema. I watched this hoping for the story to either pick or stop reminding me of other films. It did neither. Also the awful special effects just made it feel cheap. Now films aren't all about CGI but if you can't do CGI well, don't do it at all. The special effects felt like some geek had put this together on a budget and only after having watched a lot of other better Sci Fi invasion movies.

I think it harsh when others make this comment but I have to say 'save you money, don't rent or buy this movie!'

The effects are absolutely terrible. If your budget can't afford big, realistic CGI, don't try to put in loads of it. I'm usually fine with lots of effects, but this looks like a drunk spent too much time in After Effects.

Skyline also has the worst ending I have ever seen in my life. The film just stops as soon as it gets going. There is no beginning, middle, or end. It seems like they ran out of money half way through or something.

This film is so bad, in fact, that it's funny. Therefore, I have to recommend it, if only just because it's so crap.

The special effects are out of this world, and the storyline is fantastic if you don't think it through too much. The acting may not be brilliant but you don't expect an oscar-winning performance in an alien-horror film, do you. For the extra pound I'd recommend the HD version, but don't have your sound too loud...

A Terrible film that's typical of all GGI and no acting skills modern movie.

Someone bought this for me on Blu-Ray and believe me when I say it has; no plot, no characterisation, no action (yes, lots of people shooting stuff, but that's not action, it's noise).

It's dire and pointless and should be avoided.

Ignore the negative reviews! If people can't watch the dhole film then give it one star they shouldn't be commenting.

The film has fantastic effects and the story is gripping. The characters acting is good for the type of film that it is.

If you want an action packed film with absolutely amazing special effects and fantastic twists and turns get the film you won't be disappointed

Don't believe the negative reviews and seriously 'Monsters' Sometimes I wonder if rival film companies get people to come on here and slag off and rate these films down. This is easily one of the best sci-fi films of the last couple of years and, like the immensely enjoyable and brilliant 'Pandorium' actually criminally under-rated and especially given the 'reviews' on here. I'm shocked to be honest.

The only thing I can think is it's got a mostly unknown cast which obviously, and depressingly, must now mean a film is automatically bad. Not at all. You want fast moving, outstandingly photographed, top tier CGI, good acting (although I preferred the support), an engaging story, and an ending intriguing enough to make me hope they produce a sequel, then this is your film. Seriously, ignore the bad reviews. This came out at the same time as 'Battle L.A.', follows a similar premise, but is frankly vastly superior. Miss at your peril.

And no I don't work for the competition, either; I just know good sci-fi when I see it. No idea what is going on in this review section.

A typical cheesy b-movie with no character development and terrible CGI effects.

you get to what seems to be about half way through and then it ends...

Think Independence day, Cloverfield, War of the Worlds, Matrix and Battle for LA rewritten to entertain in a Marvel Movie Pre-quel to something bigger and more long-standing. The end of the film gives a hint of the direction this could take with the 'new' character protecting his pregnant GF, while battling demon creatures from space, not just on earth, but throughout the universe.

OK, the film itself had some brilliant special effects and some very scary moments with close encounters in rooms, car-parks and roof-tops. The story was typical of 'let's get the hell outta here', and for the achievement of making last so long with lots of great SFX based on such a low budget they get 5 stars. Running around screaming, confusion and personal conflict is all common to these sorts of films so I won't knock it.

Basically, if you like any of the films mentioned in the first sentence then you will find something to like in this film too, or I would hasten to add hypocrisy is taking hold. Watch it for what it is and that is a load of Sci-Fi SFX, therefore totally untrue (as of yet), mixed up to try and entertain for about 90mins.

This is a complete rubbish and waste of time! I read the reviews but decided to get this "thing" and I deeply regret it! Believe the negative reviews; they are absolutely right -- this so-called "movie" is UTTER RUBBISH even worse than The Killer Tomatoes which although terrible was funny. Skyline is NOT worth your money or your time!

Yes, the acting is not good. However, the effects are. A lot more ingenuity has gone into this low budget production than say, Battle:Los Angeles. It's a lot shorter too and has quite a surprising ending. It's by no means perfect but I'm giving it 4* because I'm actually interested in seeing where a sequel might go.

I have only given in one star because its the minimum allowed. Probably the worst film I have seen in a decade, and one of the worst I have seen ever. Proves the point that special effects can't save an utterly hopeless project. It stinks stay well clear.

Unbelievably bad.

It all takes place in a hotel flat with people peeking out of the window and saying what is going on outside. The cgi effects are dismal. This is the lowest budget film ever made. It doesn't even deserve one star. However, watch it if you want to tell people that you have seen the worst film/con ever made. The sequel is even worse!

Apple needs to give us a 'no-star' rating option solely for this. This is, quite easily the WORST FILM I HAVE EVER SEEN, there's no story, the acting is shockingly bad, the effects are mediocre, the plot twists can be seen round the corner it's just rubbish. Instead of renting or buying this watch your carpet for 2 hours you'll enjoy it more

Ok if you want to relax and don't really care what your watching but don't buy it, rent it.

After reading all the poor comments I was not expecting much from this film. And maybe that is why I have come away from watching it do surprised as to how much I enjoyed it. It has loads of action in fact it's almost non stop action. Special effects are good considering budget it was made on. Certainly lot better than any scfi channel movie. Characters and some if the decisions they made were questionable. There's no explanation or background to why anything is happening it just does. Overall a sit back relax and enjoyable film that you dont need to think or over analyse. Lot better than people say.

This film really could have been good, thats if the story was different, the characters different, it was shot by a different director and, oh, wait, it's rubbish.

Really awful, watched it as I have seen pretty much every sci fi film available, and this ranks it the bottom 1% easily.

@lorseans: I've seen another love conquers all film, called Titanic if you were a bit special, and it beats this film to hell and beyond. I, like most people, was lured in by the trailer, whilst the film itself was trash. BRAINS?! really? It was shooting for a more realistic alien movie, but it was the most unrealistic one I've ever seen. AVOID AT ALL COST!!

It started out well, then for some reason it just got worse and worse. It has some great ideas but these are just not followed through. I felt cheated by the end of the film. It was trying to be a 'Cloverfield' imitation and failed miserably.

I have struggled to think of a way to summarise this film. In the same way the 'directors' stumbled from one messy scene to another. Nothing could redeem this. I thought Black Swan would be the worst film I saw this year. Wrong. I normally try to write a review, with reasons, but this is beyond hope. It is awful. I gave it one star as no stars wasn't an option.

I thought i was an OK film,the effects were good and had a bit of a story line which i could just about relate to. I would be more than happy to watch it again. If they did get on the boat where would they have gone to?

Shouldn't this be in the films for under £3 aisle at Tesco?

The film is ambitious given the budget, but the effects are 'A' list and the creature effects well implemented. The cast perform their jobs well, especially Eric Balfour, who makes a strong but sympathetic leading man, and David Zayas almost steals it. The glossy look defies the small budget and you get to see more of the creatures than you see in Cloverfield. As far as the ending goes, I would describe it as daring, especially compared with the usual cop out happy endings that hollywood usually dictates. Only criticism is that it isnt worth £13.99.

Same storyline as cloverfield but nowhere near as good, some really annoying caracters and hardly and alien action, then all of a sudden it's over and your left feeling robbed!!

Do not even try to buy this movie or rent it. It is very bad, not smart, not expensive cheap movie.

This isnt a shoot em up and kill all the aliens like independance day - there is not great american hero at the end of it smoking a cigar !! if thats what you want, this isnt a movie for you.

The ending is dark, it shows that no matter what - love conquerors all and everything.

The only thing that beats this anti-climax of a film is the recent Apocalypse prediction. This film should be in the 99p section with the option of a refund!!!!!!!! The special effects were ok, but the absence of a storyline or decent acting make this movie only useful as a cure for Insomnia!!!!!! The most exciting part of the film was the end credits!!!!!! I'm a great fan of invasion movies and I think Skyline is an insult to those that have gone before i.e Independence Day, War of the Worlds etc. Please don't waste your time renting or buying this, you'll never get the time back!!!!!!

Great special effects do not make a great movie and Skyline should go down in history as a clear example of that. What utter rubbish...

Good effects - shame about the storyline (terrible), actors (terrible), directing (terrible) and dialogue (terrible), etc, etc

not sure why this has got such a panning as I seem to be the only person that quite enjoyed this. dark and nilihistic at times and doesnt stick in the throat as much as the some of sabre rattling gunghoo trite of similar titles I could mention .......Effects are pretty good I thought... all in all quite an enjoyable Sci Fi Romp all told

Some really good & some really poor special effects, some of it looks like a Role Playing Game. The acting isn't great either, it's worth a watch but rather than buy the film I'd rent it.

Anti Gay, Bad Actors, BAD DIRECTOR & PRODUCERS!!

The special effects are impressive, but the storyline is weak, the acting is terribly bad and the film as a whole is cringe worthy. This is one of those films where the trailers are really misleading. If you don't see this film, you are not missing much.

I was reluctant to rent this after reading the bad reviews but I'm glad I did. Its a cross between independence day and cloverfield but in my view much better. The storyline is ok, good acting and the special effects are good. I've seen much worse films than this. Definately worth a watch!

Reminds me of Resistance video game. This is just crying out for a sequel otherwise the ending would have been more like.......AN ENDING LOL

I'm not sure you gain anything more from watching the film than you do from watching the trailer. The same identical aliens appear again and again in a long, unsatisfying and meaningless fight that fails to reach any resolution. It feels like the direction wanted to have some of 'Cloverfield's intimacy to the protagonists, but Skyline lacks any good narrative, the deaths seem random and (beyond some screams) unemotional. Globally, the 'war' being fought is facile, all of humanity is being slaughtered and somehow I don't care- compare to 'War of the Worlds' for example, which portrayed humanity's extermination quite powerfully. Moreover, without wanting to give to much away, the film has no conclusion, it seems, beyond a fairly superficial twist, that the ending is brought about by a lack of characters left to kill rather than any narrative constraint. 'Skyline' feels like a big-budget answer to 'Monsters,' which is a film I'd very much recommend.

If ever there was a movie that sucked you in because of it's trailer, this is it and to add insult to injury, all the best bits in the movie are in afore mentioned trailer.

You don't care what happens to the characters you kinda want to see who and how the next one gets picked off.

Go for Cloverfield of District 9 waaaay before the boredom in your life drives you to try this out.

Without a doubt the worst movie I have seen in the last 10 years. Awful beyond contemplation.

You have to be a big Sci-Fi fan and then completely bored to make it worthwhile sitting through this. I am but it wasn't worth effort!

Before watching this film I was a big fan of Sci Fi.

This film is awful! The effects are great to start with, and become tiresome, and at the point when the 'hero' beats an alien who flattened a tower block to death with a breeze block, enough was enough! The characters are so dislikable, you want them to be eaten anyway.....

Ok so when I saw this film advertised I thought GREAT finally a film that looks from the trailers to be an all out war action movie with an alien twist, Independence day with an adrenaline boost! But no... Sadly just another survival movie where characters overcome their 'feelings' and their true 'natures' are brought out... Ok so this may be someones cup of tea but not mine.

Fact is even though I was TRYING to get into this movie (I really was) I just couldn't bring my self to give a rats ar$e whether the characters lived or died, and as for killing off the best character at the start of the movie (won't spoil it but you will guess after 30 secs) when will directors/writers realise, YES it worked for scream but it was a one time deal! Actors are famous and well known USUALLY for a good reason... BECAUSE THEY CAN ACT!

The plot was sketchy at best, don't get me wrong the special effect guys did a QUALITY job but either they didn't have the budget or the director was afraid of Michael Bay syndrome because almost all of the film is set in an apartment with the protagonist being quite simply the BIGGEST bi@tch on the planet! Don't get me wrong I know that in such an unlikely situation few of us mere mortals would turn into Jonny Rico (starship troopers) and bring a squad together to repel an alien invasion but COME ON this guy is revealed to be our savour... No character development, a case of zero to hero in the last 2 minutes of the movie!

If you must watch this movie I suggest just renting it, fact is you'll watch 10 minutes and realise it's going no where then you'll sit back with the remote and watch it at x10 speed to hunt for the special effect bits, Christ knows that's what I wish I could have done in the cinema!

Just an afterthought but some comments seem to be holding this up as a REALISTIC look at what would happen if such a situation occurred. To this I reply...a) it's a science FICTION movie realism is overrated, I watch scifi movie for escapism NOT to depress the hell out of myself and b) why does it need to be realistic? Its not like your should be looking for survival pointers from this movie is it?

Save your cash for the cinema release of battle: LA hopefully it will be as advertised...

This film is better than what people are saying. The animation on the aliens are amazing and the ending is very dark and interesting. Ok so it isn't like independence day when it's just shooting at the aliens more focusing on a group of people struggling to survive. People are being too harsh as this film is amazing!

So I watched it after looking forward to it for quite some time. I have to be honest because I'm a big sci-fi fan. Ok it started out fine with a group of people who the film focuses around with some annoying and others not so bad. Throughout the course of the film I found myself switching off at times due to being able to predict what was going to happen.

I gave this film 3 stars because I was impressed with the visual effects and the unusual ending. I would say if you really want to see this make sure you are doing nothing else. It is worth a watch but only if you are really into sci-fi film genres.

I was very interested in seeing this film it's trailed as a film similar to Independence day, full of big visuals and everything else. Unfortunately it didn't quite reach the trailed expectations. Think Cloverfield but less moving around. It trys to be scary and suspensful, but unfortunately doesn't manage it. It's worth watching if only to see what the director did with a shoestring budget. I hate to say though, nearly all the best bits were in the trailer.

Probably you want to be excited about buying this film, but when Apple put this trailer for you to preview, it has to be the worst, most boring part of the entire film...I mean comon, work it out...it's not rocket science!

This, sadly, is another one of those Sci-Fi films that you may watch in the vain hope that it will even hint at the greatness of the best of the genre (Alien films, Bladerunner etc) only to find that by the end of it you are watching something with little more depth than an episode of Power Rangers..... I'll give it two stars because it managed to maintain my attention until the fairly laughable end. It may have got three stars if the end hadn't been so chronically poor.
