iTunes Store: Customer Reviews

Beware: Film Relisted

This is not a review of the film but instead of the vendor of this particular film. There should only ever be one copy of each version of a film on the iTines store. That way, if in the future a film you have bought gets a free upgrade to 4K or has iTunes extras added (of which this film has legendary extras waiting to be added), the purchasers of that film also rightfully benefit. This is what makes the inflated digital version prices worth it when we have no physical copy. It appears that Apple has been allowing us to buy films that we believe to be the definitive version and that should benefit from future upgrades. Only to allow the studio to re-list the films and erase all evidence of the original version. It’s a messy, confusing and money grabbing practice that has also been allowed to happen with other big franchises such as Back to the Future. And so accidental repurchases or forced repurchases will continue to mess up our libraries and empty our wallets. Thanks a bunch Apple. Great film though.

Another Great Addition

This was a brilliant 2nd addition to the trilogy. I’ve not read the books yet but going off this movie the books should be amazing. This is a great movie plus the many hours of extras ie behind the scenes stuff make it worth the price.

Relisting scam

I’ve already paid for this once, but because it’s been “relisted” apparently I now need to pay for it again. A complete ripoff and a scam.

Two towers not upscaled

Bought the extended trilogy some time ago, both FOTR and ROTK were automatically upscaled to 4K, however TT wasn’t. Was informed that the version included in my original bundle wasn’t included. So either I stick with the original version, or pay full price for an upscaled version that I should be entitled to!!

Another relisted film I’ve bought already

Apple say it’s not their fault, but it’s on the APPLE store. The clue is in the name.

I purchased last year the Trilogy of the LOTR extended version in HD version. Now i got the free upgrade on the 2 other movies - The Fellowship of the Ring and the Return of the King - but the Tow Towers has been left behind. Reported to Apple Support who has been totally useless and i am still waiting for the promised email or phone call. Now my only option is to pay another £10.99 to have the privilege to watch The Two Towers in Dolby Vision on my Apple TV. Apple is a utter joke !

I’ve owned this film for five years on iTunes but all of a sudden when the remaster came out it told me I no longer own the digital copy of the film. Disgusting greedy vendor.

Needed to write this just to put the record straight as of 30th November 2020 anyone who had purchased this extended edition previously and now notices this new re release says buy now will indeed have the 4k Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos version, if you go to your purchases and find the original extended version of this you bought at the moment will see it still says it is in HD but i had the atmos symbol next to it as well [ like with Gravity ), but once you play it not only do you get a menu with extras appear that you don't know exists till you press play, but you will now be treated to the new 4k version, so no need to buy it again as many think you do, it is with you now, on a different note but of similiar importance to anyone who has Disney titles, all we need now is disney to change over their catalogue to 4k as has been promised ence anyone who looks at the pixar films will see at the bottom the Dolby Atmos sound is showing though not yet added and we should have any that will be in 4k upgraded free as well as apple have promised

No “free upgrade when 4K becomes available”. Apple expect you to buy it all over again to get 4K.
This has happened so many times to me on the iTunes Store that I now refuse to buy anything that isn’t already 4K. It’s disgraceful how Apple says one thing publicly and then profiteers when 4K versions come out.

Mine has had the free upgrade. There seems to be a lot of moaning before these things have even had time to go through. The only frustrating thing is that the trilogy looks like it’s going to be upgraded in stages like Back to the Future was, but eventually (about 3 weeks) they all were. So here’s to hoping parts 1 and 3 get the same treatment before Christmas! Also keep in mind, the disc releases are still (at time of writing) 3 days away! Chill, it’ll happen!

Outstanding..

I already have the extended HD version, so why is it asking for £10.99 again for 4K. I thought upgrade to 4K was free.

Why is it being resold?

Another studio delisting and relisting there movies, big slap on the face for dose that have previously purchased this movie. Pure company greed at its best, not buying anymore movies from New Line studios. Be careful when purchasing this movie, loads of companies out there delisting and relisting their movies to catch you out on buying the same movie over again.

Bought the extended trilogy, only for Two Towers to be relisted several months ago as different to the other two. Now it has been relisted AGAIN with new cover art, and the full complement of appendices now added (unlike Fellowship and Return, which only feature snippets). With the news that 4K versions will be released in the next couple of months, it’s likely that they’ll find a way of cheating us out of the upgrades we were promised when 4K was first introduced.

Great film but screwed by New Line

The film is 5 stars but New Line have screwed over anyone who bought this a while ago by adding a new version of the exact same movie but with more extras and not allowing those of us who bought it to download it again.
Way to support the customer, New Line.

So you buy this and it is removed from your library and you are asked to purchase it again because they have repackaged it. Surely this should not be allowed. I've never had or seen this issue with Google Movies, if they remove a movie or repackage it, you still have the original item you purchased in your library.

do not buy this film

do not buy it, like many others i have bought the film only for apple and the film companies to take it off itunes one day and rerelese it the next day with some fake repackaging. they have done it on a lot of movies. this means you buy it, they take it down, you loose the movie and they make you buy it again.
apple say they cant do anything, but they can. they are as greedy as the film companies.

Double-dipping with a Re-Release

Had a similar conversation with iTunes support. They’re saying it’s a new release so you’ve got to buy it again. This is despite the fact this new version was originally released with no iTunes Extras and has now been updated to the full appendices whereas most of us bought the previous (identical looking) version with the cut down version of the appendices (when the US versions had the whole thing). Eugh.
I’m curious what’ll happen with FotR and RotK: will they update them, stealth re-release them or leave them as is?

has this issue resolved now before i buy

Just finished speaking with Apple representative to be told that, despite owning this copy of the film, it has been recently relisted (due to “improved features...”) and therefore I must reach into my pocket and give more money to buy the same thing twice.
Apple blame the content provider and I’m sure the content provider will blame Apple. Either way, the customer loses out.
The fact that this happened only on one of the three films shows how devious it all really is.
My days of buying iTunes films are over as this is not the first time I have wondered where a film I thought I had owned had gone.
Bye. Bye.

Removed and added so I have to buy again
