A film that touches on comedy, tragedy and romance with equal deftness and, above all, excellent performances. The script has moments of brilliance and never loses its grip on your attention, keeping the story and the characters moving at a perfect pace. I've watched this film more than half a dozen times with my family and it never fails to keep all of us engaged and to make me cry like a baby with joy. I caught the last 15 minutes of it on TV tonight and still I cried - it's emotional!

Lovely family film

Yep if sitting down with the family be prepared for having to explain a handful of different 4 letter words...definitely at the high end of PG only because of the language e.g. PG-11 if there was such a rating. Real shame.

Everything that is bad about the American Film industry-Plot by numbers- sickly 'emotions'- deeply unintelligent.
You have seen this film before in a thousand slight variations.
Im all for certain family films-they can often be enchanting and good viewing for a rainy Sunday, unfortunately there is nothing charming about this film
-it is just cynical exploitation.
The dumbing down continues...

Watched this with my wife and 6 year old son. Loved every minute. Real feel good film that doesn't cross the line and get schmaltzy or cheesy.
Be aware there is a little bit of swearing. Nothing major but some families may not want their kids to hear it.
Great acting, great story.

So nice to watch a film that we could all enjoy as a family (2 adults, one 14 year old girl and one 16 year old boy,) that didn't resort to violence, foul language or lewd scenes. Great heart warming stuff.

What a beautiful, heartwarming story. If you are a family man you can easily relate to the emotions portrayed. I watched this on a flight and was so moves immediately bought it on BluRay when I got home. watched it again with my wife and enjoyed it equally as much the second time with my wife moved to tears.
Beautiful soundtrack by Jonsi of Sigur Rös fame is the finishing touch.
My only criticism is why does Hollywood feel the need to take an inspirational British story based in Dartmoor about one of the most pioneering zoos in our time and butcher it and make itan American story. You only have to look at War Horse to see how it can be true to its roots and be successful. Dartmoor would easily have made the ideal location with its beautifully savage landscape.
But then America can't seem to embrace foreign culture with their inward looking, flawed society.

This is a lovley family film. I watched it with my seven year old brother and we both really enjoyed it, however caution should be taken with allowing small children to watch it because the characters do swear a few times and some language may be very slightly innapropriate. Overall though it is a really great film!!!!

Cameron Crowe movies are always worth a peek. Great storylines and soundtrack and choice of actors. This seems his most mainstream story so far. A true story based on UK journalist who bought a zoo and it's still going strong in the wilds of Dartmoor, England. But it's too much sweetness for me. I felt I ate the popcorn with two packs of Matlteesers as well.
But hey I loved it. Great seeing Scarlet Johannsen in a believable part for once and with a sort of no nonsense grit. Supporting actress role in the traditional sense. Of course the animals and kids are cute. Good solid American entertainment which is what it's all about. If you want melodrama go watch Douglas Sirk !! I magine if this had been set in England with Rachel Weisz and Hugh Grant and directed by a droopy haired English director - it would have flopped/bummed.

What was a really good concept was spoilt by actors in the wrong movie. Not one of Damon's wise choices. His spell as 'Bourne' will lead many to choose this film. The faux child relationships are dreadfully trite between a 12 and 14 year old girl and the unnecessary of use 'adult' comments in what was to have been a journey of emotional healing for the family and father and son were utterly unnecessary and added nothing to the film. Over the top, corny delivery I was left feeling I had wasted my money in buying this. If you like corny, over acted and predictable US 'family makes good' movie with for a 'PG' unnecessary language (i.e. little girl refers to inspector of the zoo as a 'dick') then fine but for me an utterly poorly delivered concept, poorly acted. A hopeless film.
