Description
From writer/producer Joss Whedon (THE AVENGERS), comes a sci-fi horror film unlike any you’ve seen before – or is it? Not really a horror film, doesn't really make any sense. The ending is awful and I don't think I was at all scared through out the whole thing, the "plot twist" which they decided to reveal right at the beginning of the movie makes it even worse..

You'll probably like this. I must admit, I was hoping for something more interesting, given the reviews, but it turned into something more than a little stupid, gratuitous and childish. All this self-referential stuff is a dead bore - a straight story, well-told, that would have been nice, instead of all this kidult, faintly nihilistic clever-clever kitsch parody. Don't waste your money even on a rental. But then, I should have expected nothing else from JW.

Tongue in cheek horror, with a nice twist on the usual generic lost in the woods nonsense. The victims seem to shrug off some pretty serious injuries but does anyone other than the disturbed watch these movies hoping for realism?

I'm a massive horror fan. So I thought I'd give this a whirl. It struck me as a cross between Hunger Games and Saw. Good concept. Good to watch if you want to chill and not exercise your brain. There was so much more they could have done with the film. But on the whole it's a good film

The movie had cc or close captions displayed on top in the itune store, but when playing I could not use cc and I thing that's wrong. Why display cc when you know there's no cc

When I was reading the reviews, they were mixed and so I even hesitated to rent the movie.
BUT, I have always been a fan of the writer, Joss, and his imagination (aka Serenity - Series & Movie) and other movies so I rented the movie.
I was not disappointed in the creativity, imagination and acting. If you remember the Geek scientist in Doll House, then his acting alone as the "pot head" is to be commended.
The story line and twists and turns are good for the budget allocated to this film. This is definitely not a group where the dumb blonde and jock go to the cabin in the woods and all get killed with gore and screams. It is more than the expected.
I would definitely rent to watch and buy this movie if you are a Whedon fan but still not on the brilliance of Serenity.

I think this is either a love or hate movie, but it's one of my favourite horror films. It's not your usual boring slasher in the woods movie but is a totally original idea with a hint of comedy throughout. Loved it x

I was expecting a horror movie with a comedy feel to it - as though making fun of the genre - but instead it was so much more than that! Definitely wicked and twisted, took the stereotypical set up of a slash horror and made it so much more!

This is by far the worst movie ever and iv seen some tosh in my time, th plot was so bad it could make twilight seem good! Watching this movie made me want to boil my eyes! What was I thinking I traded it in and was impressed that I got a whole £1 back every single copy should be burned and forgot about! Th plot was so bad i would prefer to watch paint dry and it was as scary as sitting in a room full of fluffy bunnies!! I love a good horror sadly this is only a horror to watch bcoz it's so fooking rubbish! Sadly I have to put one star it's not worth that at all!

If you haven't seen it, definitely worth a watch! Having said that, don't listen to people claiming it changes the horror genre, it doesn't. It is, however, a very clever piece of satire aimed at the now stagnant horror film industry!

I saw this believing the hype- I know I'm old enough to know better!! This film is awful, terrible acting, no empathy for the characters, I have never wanted any bogeyman/ baddie to slaughter a bunch of "youths" so much in all my life!! No redeeming feature to this at all!! Cliched in every way!! All been done before and done so much better!! One scene actually involved a female French kissing the stuffed head of a wolf!! Terrible!! This is 1 1/2 hours you will never get back!!!

Bad acting, bad plot- just awful! As a horror lover I was expecting this to be a turning point- something that all horror films would try to imitate in the future- but it was awful! Not scary in the slightest and the plot was silly! I hated knowing the twist before I even saw the film and it just went downhill from the start... Don't waste your time or money!

I watched this film because my girlfriend selected it. I hate compromise and this is one reason not to! What a load of rubbish! I could have donated the money I paid to rent this flick to Charity! Total waste of time, makes no sense and I'm still wondering who would pay to have this film made!

The ideas that went into this film are amazing. The film goes so much further than the title and you will be kept guessing to the very last second and entertained. Special effects were amazing as well especially the last 20 mins outstanding

We were choosing what to rent. She chose Cabin in the Woods. I don't remember what I chose.
I'd heard a few complimentary words said about TCitW, but along with all other films I may want to see in the future, I made sure I didn't hear the synopsis. The only thing I DID hear was it was not the film you would expect.
I was looking forward to seeing it.
First there was the opening: a couple of white collar technicians(?) in an office building.
THE CABIN IN THE WOODS!!!
Then a brief introduction to the protagonists. Perfect formulation in brevity. We think we've seen this before.
The man at the Gas Station.
The arrival at The Cabin.
Then the fun starts.
The story flips between what happens in the woods and the curious conversations and actions of the aforementioned white collar workers, making bets, discussing those upstairs and those downstairs, and events in Scandinavia and Japan.
From beginning to end, this film is a masterpiece. In my IMDb account, it says i've watched over 4000 films, but I have only given a score of 9/10, or more to 17 films. This is the first for seven years, which i've given a 9. The fights, the gore, the dialogue, the twists... it is all original. There is only one scene in the film which you can see coming, but even when the person meets their unfortunate end, you still both enjoy and regret its unfolding.
It seems to me the cast was picked perfectly for their parts. None are meant to be Othello. They are meant to be Jock, Nerd, Slut, Waster, Virgin... but enough of that. The white collar workers could not have been chosen better. Funny, creepy (in a letcherous office worker way), misanthropic... maybe?
This film makes fun of itself, but it never seems insincere. You are cheering for the protagonists, your are cheering for the office workers and you are cheering for the bad guys at times.
There's twist after twist after twist, and I am so pleased with myself I never listened to the views of any loud mouth critic before I watched it.
The very final scene says there could be a Cabin in the Woods 2, but it wouldn't be a Cabin in the Woods. It'd be:
A World Outside the Cabin in the Woods: Apocalypse, or
Cabin in the Woods: Redemption, or
From the Cabin in the Woods They Came.
I hope they just leave this unique piece of movie gold as it is and keep the end just that- The End.

OK, so, this isn't really a horror film as such... Except that it is. Which is sort of why it's not that great.
Basically the sole purpose of this film is to poke fun at the Horror genre, making a mockery of the various clichés and predictable plot lines you'll find in most of your run-of-the-mill Slasher movies. I'm by no means a fan of the aforementioned typed of movie, so I appreciated the jokes, but I think perhaps this is also why I couldn't stick with it for the duration of the feature - The problem is, that whilst some of the gags are admittedly rather smart and cleverly done, you still end up sitting through what is - ultimately - a very boring and generic Horror. Isn't that ironic?

This is not your average horror, it sticks two fingers up at the average horror film and does it in a clever way. The whole thing is played out with its tongue firmly in its cheek. I don't want to spoil any of the film for you but I would say it is funny, entertaining and at times scary. It's been a while since I enjoyed a film this much.

Starts off OK in classic Scooby Do form but then just transcends into a CGI madness. Nice work guys and Gals - I think the bat is my favourite. Trouble is it has all been seen before in other films. Rent The Walking Dead instead or go retro and get Hellraiser out.
