Description

Richard Dreyfuss stars as cable worker Roy Neary, who along with several other stunned bystanders experience a close encounter of the first kind - witnessing UFOs soaring across the sky. After this life-changing event, the inexplicable vision of a strange, mountain-like formation haunts him. He becomes obsessed with discovering what it represents, much to the dismay of his wife and family. Meanwhile, bizarre occurrences are happening around the world. Government agents have close encounters of the second kind - discovering physical evidence of extraterrestrial visitors in the form of a lost fighter aircraft from World War II and a stranded military ship that disappeared decades earlier only to suddenly reappear in unusual places. Roy continues to chase his vision to a remote area where he and the agents follow the clues that have drawn them to reach a site where they will have a close encounter of the third kind - contact.

An absolutely brilliant film that has been redone in 4K Dolby Vision with a Dolby 5.1 soundtrack and also includes English Subtitles and CC Subtitles.

The best thing though, is that the iTunes Extras contains all 3 versions of this film, the Directors Cut, the Special Edition and the Theatrical Version.

An awesome Steven Spielberg Classic that comes with excellent iTunes Extras!

Great film but the iTunes Extras have been removed which means that all three versions of the film are no longer available including the Director's Cut and Theatrical Cut.

The description explains that three versions are included, but my download only includes one ! The film remains excellent, but Apple need to get their content description in order please.

Three versions of the film , 4K Dolby vision , hours of extras, only £4.99. On top of that this is one of the great sci-fi of all time.

Still my favourite movie of all time, though the effects appear dated by today’s standards, this movie is about conveying the tension and excitement of confronting the unknown. It’s classic Spielberg and if you’re a fan of Stranger Things, you’ll see a lot here that influenced not only that series, but countless others. Richard Dreyfus plays his role masterfully and no matter how many times I watch Close Encounters, I still get the same rush that I did when I watched it in the cinema as a kid. Outstanding.

The main attribute this film has is its ability to ‘suspend disbelief’. The plot is presented in a paced, plausible manner and the performances are measured and natural and fit the film perfectly. Steven Spielberg measures perfectly everything in this film.

So glad I waited for this edition to be released on iTunes. This is the best version of this film, beating the original and Special Edition. One of the greatest sci-fi films of all time and one of Spielberg's best films, this is the version you should be watching. The Directors Cut is Spielberg's final 137 minute re-edit of the original version plus some sequences from the 1980 "Special Edition". It contains:

The Neary family's alternate longer introduction.

The 5-second flyover of the power company truck.

The scientists discovery of the freighter in the Gobi desert is included.

The scene where Roy Neary argues with his wife and locks himself in a shower.

The Air Force base press conference scene has been restored from the original version.

The scene where Roy throws dirt, plants and bricks through his kitchen window has been restored from the original version.

This version does not contain the mothership ending from the "Special Edition", and retains the original 1977 end title music.
