Description

In this adaptation of Ian Fleming's 1955 novel, James Bond (Roger Moore) must thwart Sir Hugo Drax (Michael Lonsdale), who plans to wipe out all of humankind and replace it with a super race that he has cultivated in a massive space station. The girl in the case is American secret agent Holly Goodhead, intelligently played by Lois Chiles. "Jaws," the steel-mouthed henchman played by Richard Kiel in The Spy Who Loved Me (1977), makes a return appearance in Moonraker, turning good guy (complete with a girlfriend of his own) in the process. Bernard Lee makes his last appearance as "M" in this most costly of James Bond's 1970s escapades.

CAUTION! HCDP means this may not play on old equipment

This is a great movie, however, exercise caution with this version.
Have you heard of "High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP)”. Me neither. Until I tried to play this movie on our projector. I get a dialogue telling me that I may not because the projector does not support HDCP. A quick look at Wikipedia tells me that it is a protocol designed by Intel to prevent copying via connected displays. It also says it was cracked 2010 and is now defunct.
So, purchase this iTunes version and you may not be able to watch it because of a defunct paranoid and unnecessary protocol.

let the Bond be with you

A little silly you could say if you was being harsh, but otherwise what fun it was to be Bond back in the late 70’s. It is hard to imagine in these serious Daniel Craig times, that Bond was like this. Missions to the moon again are lightyears away for Bond now but this was one hell of a romp. A serious start is mixed up with a fun explosive end in space, and no matter how much a serious Bond fan will want to resist it, you do need to give a nod to the other rival long running franchise (cough…Star Wars) for influencing this film. Yes it would be nice to have seen a non-Star Wars influenced Moonraker, but non the less TSWLM’s success continued with this….reminiscent of the Goldfinger/Thunderball heights.

No Mr Bond, I am your Father

I have always wondered how Moonraker would have been created if the world was never introduced to Star Wars. The eleventh Bond film was changed from the scheduled For Your Eyes Only to tie in with the phenomenal success of George Lucas's action packed Sci-fi. But if that Galaxy was further away, the film version of Flemings third Bond novel could have been very different and in my opinion would have been better if the original story was followed.
The film itself is a good entry with Ken Adams sets being the best feature. His design for the space station is incredible and must be one of the best film sets ever created. The storyline is pretty much a duplicate of the previous Bond film, The Spy Who Loved Me with a toxic substance depleting the human race rather than nuclear war.
EON was definitely influenced by the force, which unfortunately deprived the fans of one of Flemings best stories.

Cheesy but brilliant

More like a comedy than an action film, but it gives Bond a unique outing

MAD! But cool.

I like this Bond it has great girls, great action, a driving plot and great bad guys! But Roger Moore was getting to old for 007 and not good at fighting. But this Bond is a cool.

Bonkers, but brilliant

They really don't make 'em like this anymore - thank God. I like my Bonds to at least be in touch with Ian Fleming. So why the 5 stars? Well, despite everything, Moonraker is a hoot. Every penny of its enormous budget is up on screen. Roger Moore is at the peak of his considerable powers. And it LOOKS amazing.
