Description

The Hunt unfolds in a small provincial town in the days leading up to Christmas. Lucas (Mads Mikkelsen), a forty year old divorcee, is finally getting his life under control. He's got himself a new girlfriend, a new job and is in the process of re-building his relationship with his teenage son, Marcus. But things soon start to unravel. Nothing significant, just a slight comment here, a random lie there. As the snow falls and the Christmas lights are lit, the lie spreads like an invisible virus. The shock and mistrust gets out of hand, and the small community suddenly finds itself in a collective state of hysteria, while Lucas fights a lonely fight for his life and dignity. The Hunt is a disturbing depiction of how a lie can quickly become truth, a modern tale of a witch-hunt, injustice, guilt and ultimately, forgiveness. A fable on how fragile a community can become when gossip, doubt and malice are allowed to flourish. It is a stirring portrait of a man struggling to exonerate himself, and a father and a son reaching out for one another as their world crumbles.

Heartbreakingly beautiful

The Arriflex Alexa camera and Mads Mikkelsen conspire to make this one of the most beautiful films.
Highly, highly recommended.

Extremely Dark

A truly amazing film, however exceptionally dark. I don’t think I can find any true fault in it (the way it ends maybe?). Not necessarily pleasant viewing, but a truly amazing film.

Excellent

Don’t be put off by the subtitles. You are immediately drawn into the film and the characters are very strong. A real emotional roller coaster but well worth the watch. Excellent acting too.

Absolutely Brilliant !!

I really don’t like watching sub titled films, but after reading some positive reviews about the hunt I decided to give it a go… WOW am I glad I did, seriously this film is absolutely gripping, someone else used the word powerful and it describes this story perfectly.
The main character you will recognise from James Bon ‘Casino Royale’, remember the baddy who bleeds from his eyes with the silver inhaler…
Without giving anything away this film is moving, brilliantly and believably acted and subjects you to the whole spectrum of emotion, it’s shot in such a wonderful landscape too, this really is a must watch and such a shame that many won’t purely because it’s not in English, as they will miss out.

Was great! Especially when on rent for only 99p! Loved the plot but found the ending a bit dull, never the less a great film

Brilliant!!

What a brilliant film. Seen the positive reviews and decided to rent it. Acting is stunning. The pace of the movie is slow but somehow you're kept on the edge of your seat it is so engrossing. Hadn't heard of the film until now but would put it down as one of my favourites in the last year. Highly recommended.

Powerful

When someone asks me what film moved me, encapsulated me, made me think, made me shout at the screen, this film will be the first on my list.

A complex, sensitive topic tackled very well by Vinterberg.

Hardly watch foreign movies, since I was a fan of Mads Mikkelsen's work on Hannibal (I recommend it highly) I thought I'd give it a go and the plot sounded intriguing. I must say it's a remarkable movie, a little slow in the middle however it was terrific to watch. Watching the lie unravel, taking a life of its own and you begin to feel really empathetic towards Lucas. Mads Mikkelsen impressed me once again with a incredible performance as Lucas.

Outstanding

SO moving towards the end - this challenges you for one of the worst situations a parent could face and a male teacher at a school... A really great film

Beautifully shot and acted

The location and housing they used made me want to move to Scandinavia. So beautiful. Especially the hunting lodge. This film would have got a higher rating but I felt there wasn't enough equilibrium at the end of the film, but I may be missing the point.

Superb

Really good thought provoking film, subtitled yes but that's much better than being dubbed. All the Swedish films I've seen have been really good, hopefully we'll get more.

Compelling, engrossing, uncomfortable at times...

...and certainly thought provoking. Great acting all around and utterly immersive. The Danish film and TV industry is on fire!

Wow what a film. The story is gripping and the acting is fantastic - well worth renting but prepared for an emotional roller-coster of a ride.

Frightening world.

This says 'drama' but runs like a thriller most of the time and even a horror occasionally in terms of how appalling things get for the main character. Goes to show how people believe what they want despite having any facts or even bothering to get them and the way that once they believe the smallest lie they'll throw every shred of decency and perspective out the window. Terrifying.
Great film from beginning to end. Subtley and intelligently made and thoroughly gripping and thought-provoking throughout. Got it by the way because we were so impressed by the lead, Mads Mikkelsen, in 'The Door'. If you like interesting thrillers with a time-travel element I highly recommend that, too.

Gripping

Great central acting performance will have you rooting for him, and sometimes squirming. A powerful story for our times, well told. Watch it!
