Description

J.J. is an aspiring MC, just arrived on London’s exciting outlaw urban music scene. He’s got the skills, he’s got the rhymes, he’s got the drive. But there’s a problem - not only is J.J. a white boy from the sticks - he’s also gay. And gay - in the world of hip-hop and ragga - ain’t good. So when J.J. resolves to come out onstage at the Urban Slam Finals, taking his boyfriend Orlando with him, he knows it’s going to get a bit grimy.... but when the couple falls foul of infamous Ghetto Rap Crew, ‘The Ilford Illmanics’, all of their lives are changed forever, in a way no-one could have ever foreseen. Rikki Beadle-Blair (Fit, Kick Off) is back with a bang with this hard-hitting urban drama, adapted from his stage play, exploring the intersection of race, sexuality and music. Starring stand-up comedian and MTV presenter Joel Dommett in his first lead role performance as J.J. and a host of Team Angelica regulars, Bashment is like nothing you have seen before.

Not my normal film choice, not my kind of music, i am glad I put my pre conceived ideas about this film to one side, not many films make you think this one does.

Moving and strange

This isn't the usual movie. It's challenging and eye opening. It's a commentary on black and gay life, hate and forgiveness.
Many of the same actors from Kickoff and Fit but you'll see a very different type of talent in this movie.
It ends strangely, and unbelievably in fact. The story is, however uncomfortable at times, eventually uplifting.
