Description

Home is where the heart is for best pals Davy and Ally. Returning from duty in Afghanistan to their lifelong residence in Leith, just outside Edinburgh, the lads kindle romances old and new: Ally with Davy’s sister Liz, and Davy with Yvonne, his little sis’s best friend from work. Meanwhile, their parents Rab and Jean are busy planning their 25th wedding anniversary. Everything’s going swimmingly, until a revelation from Rab’s past threatens to tear the family and all three couples apart. Dexter Fletcher directs Sunshine on Leith; a jubilant, heartfelt musical about the power of love, home and family, adapted from the acclaimed stage musical by Stephen Greenhorn and featuring the euphoric music of The Proclaimers.

Probably the best film that I've ever seen, the Proclaimers songs were brilliant, and even if you'd never heard of them they were still thoroughly enjoyable and might even prompt you to get them. Even though the film was based around songs, it didn't struggle to make the story line fit and it was really good and very engaging. A word of warning, though - the trailer spoils all!

Brilliant film

Such a great fun movie and will delight anyone who wants a love story sung by talented Scots. Such a pity that England will lose so much and this film is another indictment of Scottish talent.
This written by an Englishman who will always consider us a Union regardless of what the Scots decide.
Perhaps we should all walk 500 miles and reflect on the madness of breaking up our great Kingdom.

This is a wonderful feel good film. Yes, it helps if you love the Proclaimers music, but my husband didn't really know their music and he loved the film. It's touching and heart-warming and the music is just beautiful. Jane Horrocks' performance is absolutely brilliant. Watch this film - you'll be left feeling lifted and you'll be singing the music for days afterwards.

Loved it.

Didn’t think I’d like this (part of me wanted to hate it) but to be honest I thoroughly enjoyed it. Funny, heartfelt and emotional at times but always entertaining. The real star of the show is Edinburgh which just looks stunning here

I don’t like musicals as a rule, but loved this. Probably because it was a musical set it current times about current issues, I could relate to it. I found my self glued for the duration. Loved the music and the story. Normally and I am strictly a action sci-fi bloke, but I found this a great watch with the wife.

Overall slow, and boring - but watchable

The actors are good, the singing is fine; but the plot is fairly unexciting and slow. I was bored throughout the movie.

a little bit boring if you ask me. I watched this as the other reviews said it was good, but didnt feel that the story line was strong enough. I found myself making about 3 cups of tea whilst watching...thats definitely a sign of a film that wasnt entertaining enough. Its an easy watch though...

Jane Horrocks' gives a low key 'grand performance' and the rest of the ensemble truly shine in this brilliantly made film. The songs are given new live, and you don't need to be a Proclaimers fan to enjoy it. It portrays Edinburgh in its true light: the most beautiful city on earth.
