Wes Anderson at his quirky best. Wonderful performances, fairytale visuals and an absorbing story. Brilliantly funny while appearing not to even try. A joy.

This film took me completely by surprise, and was far better than I expected. It’s wonderful. Very quirky and original, and a teeny bit rude in places, it has a completely unique atmosphere that I find very compelling. The music’s terrific too, and suits the film perfectly. It all combines in an engrossing way that makes me feel nostalgic for the hotel and the country it’s in, despite the fact that they’re both fictional. It’s certainly the most memorably atmospheric film I’ve seen for as long as I can remember. One of the few films that I can enjoy watching repeatedly, even though I know what’s coming up. I know that The Grand Budapest Hotel will remain one of my top favourite films of all time.

A very unusual film. It has had excellent reviews which is why I bought it ,and of course an excellent cast of characters. However I kept waiting for it to make any sense to me! Excellent actors but sorry, it's a lousy film!

Wes Anderson's a genius and this exquisite film his crowning glory. Fiennes at his very best leads a consummate cast. Plot, script, acting and production design and music combine to make the best cinema experience of the year. A flawless film, full of humour, pathos, drama and excitement. The only bad bit is when it's over. What a cast! A film to treasure and share - give it as a gift and you'll be loved!

This film is an excellent example of great US and British actors doing a quirky, character driven film. An odd story, with elegant photography and great cast.

I loved that movie. But I couldn't stop thinking that the world created by Wes Anderson looks the same as Lemony Snicket's world, a Series of Unfortunate Events. If you read the books you will see the same humour and the same characters and the same atmosphere! Perfect!

Superb. It's simply one of those films you have to watch and then watch again. I usually dislike cameo laden films because they feel like a a showcase for actors who don't act, just be themselves in another set of clothes(Jude law etc...) however this film is so wonderlandy written it keeps you riveted . I want to get a thesaurus and find another word for quirky but that's what is is. One of those rip roaring films that WILL become a classic, just my cup of tea. Tim burton without the horror , Mary poppins without the spoon full of sugar . Gloriously amusing

Over-hyped

The fabulous Mr Fiennes gives it his all to try to carry this disappointing, pretentious, slight little film. The trailer is the best bit. That should start alarm bells ringing if nothing else does.

By far the best film I've had the privilege to watch this year. Eccentric, theatrical and humorous portrayal of a simple story made deliberately complex. Delivered to us exaggerated with an air of comic strip animation that you can't help but warm along to.
Wonderful..

Once again Wes Anderson has produced a film of comical genius and artistic beauty.
Again and again his films push themselves into the best of the best, of the best of all times. Anderson slowly makes a place for himself with the greatest directors of all time.

I can only assume that many of the reviewers don't get out much, given the totally over the top praise lavished on this film.
Whilst it was enjoyable and worth watching, I fail to see why anyone would call it a great film
Ralph Fiennes is pleasant to watch but hardly extraordinary and the comedy is amusing rather than laugh out loud.
Because a film is different does not necessarily make it brilliant, which seems to be the inference from many of these reviews.
Is it worth paying to see? In my opinion, NO
Should you watch it when it is shown on TV? Absolutely.

Hilarious, innovative, wonderful!

Now I went into this film not knowing what to expect, but by the end I was marvelling at how much I wanted the story to continue! It is a unique comedy and is great for most viewers, I hold off from 5 stars because it's not everyone's cup of tea, some may find it a little bit tedious and hard to follow unless full attention is on the film. Other than that a great film worth your time and money!

Cant speak highly enough of this film or any of Wes Anderson’s works. Maybe the best film i’ve seen so far this year, darkly funny with superb performances from the A-List packed cast. Visually superb as you would expect.

This fantastic piece of cinema brings the best of Wes Anderson; quirk, wit and flamboyance run not in the forefront as to put people off but are instead subtlety instilled into each scene like a base note waiting to be detected.
I believe it to be a misnomer that film is about M. Gustav or Zero or The Writer or In fact the Girl who is reading the story. This is more about the life of a decadent hotel and a commentary on how stories move from mind to mind over a period of 100 years.
The acting is without fault, the camera techniques are again quiet but you can and do notice them, often bringing pleasure. And the scriptwriting is one of this films finest prizes.
Colourful, usual, emotional, funny and, always superbly eccentric. A film that feels intensely personal and I believe best appreciated alone.

Maybe I missed something here, but it just wasn't worth the money. It lacked any focus, the line up was misleading, it was definately not a comedy, and I watched, waiting for something to happen.....dreary movie

Ignore all the good reviews. This film is ok at best. And is not worth the money or time to watch it. Save your money. I rented this film off the back of the trailer and was disappointed with the film. I'm so glad I rented and did not buy or I would be constantly reminded about my poor choice in film. I think all the good reveiws of this film was from the cast and crew of who made the film in order to sell more copies. Hope my reveiw helps your choice and if you insist on watching this film I strongly advise you only in renting it.

Every scene is a visual masterpiece, rich and eclectic. Superb acting. Querky storyline. Probably one to split the audience into polar opposites. One off the charts brilliant, the other hate and disdain. I think it's one of the best films I've ever seen.
