Description

THE GUARD is a comedy-thriller set on the west coast of Ireland. Sergeant Gerry Boyle is a small-town cop with a confrontational personality, a subversive sense of humour, a dying mother, a fondness for prostitutes, and absolutely no interest whatsoever in the international cocaine-smuggling ring that has brought FBI agent Wendell Everett to his door.

Surprised that this hasn't been reviewed more since the year I first watched it, but then with it's dark humour and Irish setting, it probably is a bit over the head of the average viewer.

Gleeson and Cheadle play the chalk and cheese role so fluidly and the strong supporting cast makes for smooth transitions and great story telling as well as of course, humour.

Can't recommend this film enough, for what it matters, easily in my top five.

A must see film. Gleeson is a powerhouse. Funny and sad and dripping in dark humour throughout. Best film of it's year.

Brilliant film

Really good watch. This one has definitely been under the radar which is a shame because it is so good. All the characters compliment each other brilliantly and the lead is played very well. Very dark comedy with good old school Irish cop humour.
