Description

Once upon a time, screenwriter Keith Michaels (Hugh Grant) was on top of the world – a Golden Globe Award and a hit movie to his name, a beautiful wife and a seemingly inexhaustible supply of wit and charm. But that was fifteen years ago: now, he’s divorced, broke, approaching fifty and hasn’t written a hit film in years. Luckily, his agent has a job for him – a university in the quiet town of Binghamton is looking for someone to teach a course in screenwriting, and with an empty wallet as his motivation, Keith can’t say no. Hoping to give minimal attention to his duties and focus on writing a new script, his attitude slowly begins to turn when he meets Holly (Marisa Tomei). A single mum working two jobs to earn her degree, the pair find themselves connected by their mutual need for a second chance.

Watchable

Sunday afternoon and it's raining - save it for then and it will put a smile on your face. Not brilliant but not bad either - easily watchable 🐸

Forgettable

Not original or charming, but not particularly bad either. However, Hugh Grant is too old to play the character he usually plays - and he knows it.

What became of Hugh Grant ?

Weird. Within 5 mins I began to see Hugh Grant as a Bill Bailey impersonator, and that image stayed in my mind throughout. The downbeat voice, mannerisms and attitude may be true to the character, but either Bill Bailey himself should have played the role or it should have gone to someone less depressed-looking, such as Ricky Gervais.

Excellent

I’m sure I wrote a review about this film already but, in case I did’t, have to say I thoroughly enjoyed this film. Hugh Grant & Marisa Tomei make excellent leading actors and the supporting cast is also impressive and so, all round, a film I would certainly recommend to others. As well as being a very well acted film, the script is good, lively and whilst the comedy might be understated and subtle, there is never a dull moment and it all reaches a most satisfying conclusion. Worth every penny.

What a load of rubbish! The storyline was predictable, unimaginative and lame. Hugh Grant actually gets paid for this! I must say all the other characters could act, unlike Hugh Grant, who again, plays himself. The script could have been his biography.

Charming and beautifully written

A story about screenwriting that effortlessly demonstrates what a good script sounds like. Hugh Grant is Hugh Grant (again) but his brilliance is how he treasures and delivers the English language. A slight little film elevated to a good film by the quality of the writing and a gentle, realistic and optimistic story. Overall, a delight. And if you don't like Mr Grant then don't come complaining to me. I won't listen.

Can't download it or report it so paid for nothing!!!

I paid for this but can neither download it or report it to iTunes as the report won't send. Come on ITunes, where is this film? I can't even go to your page and select 'play' because nothing happens. I have paid £9.99 for nothing and I feel cheated!
