Description

The new film from Andrey Zvyagintsev, the visionary director of The Return and The Banishment, tells the tragic tale of Kolya, who employs a lawyer friend to help fight his case for ownership of the land on which he and his family live when the nefarious town mayor attempts to seize it. But standing up against such men begins a whirlwind of dire consequences, infusing every area of Kolya's life and all he holds dear.
A visually arresting epic which takes an unflinchingly direct look at modern day Russia and the corruption that seethes in even its quietest corners, Leviathan will not only open your eyes but also stay in your mind for years to come.

Great film

Really enjoyed this film. Subtitles quite hard to read, maybe better if you've got a massive TV screen. Beautifully understated scenery. Good characters, didn't think they were exaggerated or false like another reviewer thought. Been to small Siberian towns and met similar. Maybe the rich fat businessman is a bit of a caricature. Look forward to watching again.

Ok but depressing

Great cinematography, you get a real idea of the culture and background of the story. But this is a serious film and definitely not a feel good movie to say the least!

Not a real Russia!

Exaggerated, fake and not real! Drunk director fantasy! Does not show real Russian character, Russian soul and boring to watch.

Great movie!

It is certainly one of the best movies I’ve ever watched… shows multi-dimensional reality of an average Russian town today. very deep staff that makes you think and rewind after you finish watching it.

Unexpectedly good

If you've enjoyed any of the Scandinavian thrillers (Borden, the killing, etc) in the past ... This film has a similar haunting feel. A gripping story, well balanced characters and an insight into remote town Russia. We loved it ... But don't expect a 'feel good' ending.
