Description

Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Peter Jackson returns to Middle-earth with the final of three films based on J.R.R. Tolkien's enduring masterpiece. Set in Middle-earth 60 years before the epic Lord of the Rings trilogy, the adventure follows the journey of Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of dwarves on a journey into wild, treacherous lands swarming with beasts of every ilk. After reaching Erebor and encountering the dragon Smaug, Five Armies assemble for an epic battle that could decide the future of all in Middle-earth.

So many added parts!

As much as I love the Hobbit films I think there should have only been two. There are so many unnecessary added parts that if you took them away you’d still have have an amazing two movies!
Firstly, what on earth is Legolas doing in the Hobbit?!
Secondly, and the she elf, Tauriel?
Thirdly, the escape from the elf dungeons was way different; there was no shooting at Orcs from barrels! They were meant to float for days with the lids on!
Fourthly, the whole Necromancer part is not in the Hobbit book. Anyway, why is Gandalf stupid enough to go into a place which he knows is full of evil, alone, and then demand it to show itself?
Fifth, heroic stuff, how can Legolas cross a crumbling bridge by stepping on bricks that are falling through the air?! Also, how come the good main characters always duel with the bad main characters, and are never killed by the lesser, normal Orcs?
Sixth, the part in the mountain where they try to cover Smaug in molten gold never happened in the book.
And lastly, Killi never fell in love with the she elf. What was she even doing in there anyway?

An abomination.

Read the book first then watch this, you will know what I mean. Games Workshop fans will just cream themselves with excitement. An abomination.

Amazon Prime version is much better!

Amazing movie of course but the quality is lacking-prefer Amazon movie rentals by far. Will not be using this service again.

An epic conclusion to a somewhat decent trilogy.

This movie was epic from the start. It had the best first act than any of the hobbit and LOTR movies. Just like LOTR, each movie does get slightly better, with this one being the best in the hobbit trilogy. Even though the hobbit trilogy isn’t as good as the LOTR trilogy, it does have a lot going on. I will admit that the battle royal part went on for a bit too long, but thankfully the film as a whole isn’t three hours log. The cast were great, especially Thorin, Bilbo, Da, Gandolf and Evangine Lilly’s character. The ending itself wasn’t as emotional as LOTR, as it wa more of a ‘well, see you later’, which makes sense as the LOTR follows after the events of this film. But seeing as this is Peter Jackson’a final middle earth adventure, I kinda expected a little more emotion, even though there was. I do recommend this film and, yea, thank you Peter Jackson for making 6 great films. :)

I never could have believed that it was possible to spend so much money and effort to produce a film as bad as the first in this trilogy... then I watched the second one and was proven wrong. Now Peter
Jackson proves me even more wrong. Jackson clearly has 'dragon sickness' like the leading character, seeing nothing but the promise of wealth and fame simply by vomiting up this hopeless, disorganised cinematic drivvle for the luckless masses. I spent my childhood playing in the same fields as Tolkien, a quiet corner of Birmingham on which he based Hobbiton, and I grew up first having The Hobbit read to me over and over and then reading it myself many times, and this bares almost no relation to the actual story or its sentiments. An insult to anyone who loves Tolkien, and to anyone who appreciates good filmmaking.

I'm not going to waste too long saying how bad this film is and the trilogy it concludes.
Throughout the previous films there was zero character development for the Dwarves. I don't care about them or their journey. A shoehorned love story that Tolkien never included. Added only to appeal to a wider demographic and to earn more money at the cost of integrity to the material.
The beautiful landscape of New Zealand and the amazing sets created for The Lord of the Rings, have given way to CGI, plastic looking sets and scenery. This film will age extremely quickly as the CGI soaked mess looks rubbish now. Peter Jackson must have spoken to the same imaginary fairy on his shoulder as George Lucas did.
Making a children's book into an epic film trilogy has failed tremendously. Greed has trumped heart. R.I.P middle-earth.

Was it really worth it?

'Gold! Gold! Welcome my sisters sons, to the Kingdom of Erebor!..'
So what now? Nice new car? Err...no. Big house in the country? Nope. Penthouse in the city? Uh uh. OK then, some new Duds and a Macbook Pro? Not really.
Well then, what? Not another leather blxxdy jerkin and bow and fxcking arrow...oh God! And the beer tastes like shxt as well...spot of Dragon baiting anyone?

It was a shame that most of the movie was computerised!

As a complete lover of the Lord of the Rings, the Hobbit films have really disappointed me. By the second movie I was sick of watching special effects when it was easy to recreate it in real life. However this particular movie was the best out of the three. It was cleverly linked to the Lord of the Rings and it did entertain me. BUT... The plot was predictable in most places and lost in all the emotional scenes. I found it hard to believe that one arrow could take down a troll whereas in the Lord Of the Rings it took more than fifty. Some of the characters did not fit the film and I felt that some acting choices were poor. I am quite ashamed that they have created such s disappointment after such a masterpiece which the Lord of the Rings was.

for the first five minutes of this movie it actually followed the book, and then after that it was all down to peter jackson, he really is not creative. the movies should of stopped at the second one, but typical to hollywood they thought they could destroy a great book by adding a load of crap and making more money.

Worst film of the Trilogy. Worst film of Jackson’s Middle Earth films.
Boring. Just one long battle that is 5 page in the book. The Hobbit is hardly in it.

The hobbit 3 was a fantastic film I would give it 5 stars hands down.
Now the problem with watching the film was that it kept stopping bit by bit which was a joke and the 2 hour wait for the download I think iTunes needs to work on those things. I have an iPad and fast internet connection so it isn't on my end but overall 5 stars well worth the buy I did think that the lasts 13 minutes could've gone to more storytelling but hey can't complain

I saw this film at the cinema and thought it was OK but a little disappointing.
In spite of this I purchased it hoping that a second viewing would change my opinion. It didn't. There is something missing. I can't quite put my finger on it but it is what makes a good film great. Not the acting which is good. The effects are also very good but it doesn't seem to quite work. A tired formula?? Having an actor looking older in the prequel than in Lord of the Rings films?? I don't know. Anyway that's my opinion.

The hobbit is an amazing movie and Peter Jackson is by far the best director. In the hobbit the battle of the five armies there really is a big battle which most people enjoyed including me. The previous hobbits are extremely good but the final one is the BEST ! Peter Jackson I tip my hat to you.

Should've been 2 films maximum

I love the hobbit book. I loved the LOTR trilogy too. The film versions of the latter were great. The hobbit movie adaptation sadly feels like it was stretched out to make three films. There's too many points in it where it feels like you're watching a 'filler' that was put in to lengthen it. Example - the ending. I won't detail it but the last 15 mins is a dragging out of what should've been 5.

Good but could have been better

The story telling is a little lost in the action sequences, several cardinal moments and characters are left at sea, Martin Freeman developing the character eponymous Hobbit for one, Not all is bad however the Sequence with Sauron and the White council was plucked form a few words in appendices of other Tolkien books is a great addition. Thorin is well played and given a decent plot,
I just felt there is a better story in the edit and Peter Jackson ran out of energy and time in the end on what to say no to in order give Gandalf, Thanduil, Bilbo, Bard et all more space to play out their characters story lines rather than orc just bashing

Not great..

The hobbit should of been two films.. Or otherwise 3 films which were more thought out than they were. The start of this film happens all so quickly and after the 2nd film you think it's all about the dragon... Guess again... The third is about a villain who feels more or so in the background than the foreground. It's messy and tries to be a LOTR film but it's not the hobbit is different (forgets that it's about the hobbit sometimes). I'm sad I didn't enjoy this film that much as the first and 2nd. It just feels rushed, just to much of a quick tie in to move foreword into LOTR's. There are some great scenes even though saying all this but overall I found it very disappointing.

Simply awful.

To be clear: I though Lord of the Rings was truly outstanding. The Hobbit, however, has been an exercise in cultural vandalism and this third movie is quite the worst of Peter Jackson’s abuses of his talent. Pointless, over-blown fight scenes make heavy use of CGI as an alternative to narrative structure, the storyline is confused and often simply repeats the obviously borrowed hackneyed plot devices from the first two movies in this series. A heavier than usual re-write of the basic plot elements renders this almost unrecognisable. I hope the ghost of Tolkein brings him to repentance for this. And with luck, this will be recognised in years to come as the worst film Peter Jackson ever made, and he’ll start making decent movies again. And I said that after the last second Hobbit movie too.

I didn't think the hobbit would be as good as the LORT and I believe I was right. Some of the CGI was poor, some parts were just stupid. All three films left me wanting pretty disappointed, but maybe my expectations were too high after LOTR.

The Battle of the Five Armies was a great movie but had a lot of errors in it. I would like it to be a bit longer like the other Hobbit movies but overall it was good. Peter Jackson and Guillermo Del Toro though should have made more of an effort for the last Hobbit movie EVER. However, overall it was excellent to watch especially the battles.

Peter Jackson made one of the best trilogy's ever! It could of been one of the best sagas after Star Wars and Harry Potter when he made the two hobbit films. But when it came to the. Battle of five armies the whole saga was so close to being ruined! Another thing was the film was like a video game. It was battle after battle after battle. It is Either Peter Jackson makes a great middle earth film to make up for it or he goes on to a new franchise.

Peter Jacksons Middle Earth Saga comes to a spectacular End. Breathtaking in a way this extraordinary director knows best. Amazing battle sequences and gentle hints that give a gentle nod to the other films. Martin Freeman is amazing as Bilbo, Ian McKellen is magical as Gandalf and Lee Pace is flawless as Thranduil but the true hero of this film is definitely Thorin played by Richard Armitage who's own personal struggle you are completely immersed with. The Journey of Middle Earth may have ended but the story never ends. Pre-Order your copy of this flawless masterpiece and go on this epic journey from the beginnings of Bilbos journey to the amazing finale of Frodos. Witness Peter Jacksons Middle Earth epic from beginning to end. This is one saga you will not want to miss.

We have followed him faithfully since 2001 into a superb vision of Middle-earth that encompasses the best of his work as a director and also, by repetition, the most mundane. This last film of the Hobbit trilogy proves that there was never enough material for three films. Richard Armitage credibly held his own as Thorin to the end and Lee Pace was excellent as Thranduil. But the Oscars must go to Weta for the sheer magnificence of their craft... P.J. needs a holiday.

Ever since the lord of the rings came to our screens in England it would seem that the hobbit the battle of the five armies has won my vote for movie of the year but only time will tell for 2015 when Star Wars force awakens comes out but who knows they both might win my vote so it's the end of an earer for Peter Jackson's lord of the rings trilogy.

An epic conclusion to a fantastic trilogy with a blazing opening scene with Smaug attacking lake town and followed by an unbelievable battle. With an emotional ending it has a great tie into The Lord of the Rings.
