You know you’re going to get a well made, well acted film from Spielberg - the problem here is you know how it’s going to pan out - even the inclusion of the american student in the swap (did that really happen?) failed to add tension. Where Apollo 13 managed it, this doesn’t.
Fortunately, there is much to enjoy. Tom Hanks is excellent as usual - you wish every lawyer in the world was like him. But it is Mark Rylance who shines, deserving all the accolades he has received. His dry, resigned, humour steals the film - you wish he’s in it more.
