Description

Directed by Jon Favreau (Iron Man), based on Rudyard Kipling’s timeless stories and inspired by Disney’s classic animated film, The Jungle Book is a live-action epic adventure about Mowgli (newcomer Neel Sethi), a man-cub who’s been raised by a family of wolves. But Mowgli finds he’s no longer welcome in the jungle when fearsome tiger Shere Khan (voice of Idris Elba), who bears the scars of Man, promises to eliminate what he sees as a threat. Urged to abandon the only home he’s ever known, Mowgli embarks on a captivating journey of self-discovery, guided by panther-turned-stern-mentor Bagheera (voice of Ben Kingsley) and the free-spirited bear Baloo (voice of Bill Murray). Along the way, Mowgli encounters jungle creatures who don’t exactly have his best interests at heart, including Kaa (voice of Scarlett Johansson), a python whose seductive voice and gaze hypnotizes the man-cub, and the smooth-talking King Louie (voice of Christopher Walken), who tries to coerce Mowgli into giving up the secret to the elusive and deadly red flower: fire.

Having watched the remake of Cinderella and the brilliant malificent I was very excited to watch this remake...and buy god I wasn't disappointed!!! It's wonderful, ok not so much "fun" as the cartoon version but it doesn't matter, it's such a good movie (as was malificent and Cinderella btw!) I can't wait to see what's next!! Well done Disney...Walt would love it!

Big disappointment

Didn't enjoy the first viewing would say it's for a younger audience not adults, the special effects were great but the voice acting of the actors just didn't seem to work for me it kinda spoilt the enjoyment of the film, although the film is a better watch the second time around. Worth a rent not to buy in my opinion, not as good as the original animation.

Absolutely butchered and destroyed a really good film, this comes no where near the original.

I think this movie is better than the original. Why because it is truer to the original book and that's never a bad thing. I would not recommend this movie however for little kids as there are darker elements to it.
I notice a lot of reviews are one star because of the cgi!! Lol it's hard not to see cgi in everything now days and to write of a movie because of it is infantile. For those of you who loved the original Disney movie this gives you a balance between that and the original book.

Disappointed

Far too dark and not musical enough. Kids were scared especially during the enormous orangutan scenes (he was never a giant orangutan in the original!).
Storyline is heavily changed from the original.
I regret renting this film.

Oh god remaking an all time classic. How foolhardy & lazy I thought. Have you no new ideas said I ?
Blimey how wrong could I have been! This is a fabulous film, a modern adaptation of the original rather than just a remake, with some of the best CGI rendering I've seen.
Great storytelling and looks beautiful to boot. Never thought I'd say this but it's every bit a match for the original.

Looks great but plodding and dull.

The animation is breathtaking, but the script is mirthless, without any wit or gags, The voices are completely unremarkable and very weak in places (Idris was terrible, Kingsley boring). Oddly, you are left with no sense of place, this could be the Rockies, a little Sitar would seem obvious, echoes of songs from the old Disney animations only draw attention to what's missing; joy. There's no joy in this.

Not for Kids

My two daughters & I watched this and we loved it. Well done Disney I didn't think you could create an equal to the original - brilliant.
The modern animation is just incredible.

Watched it in the cinema, a waste of money. They have ruined the film and the message behind it about a boy growing up. He ends up back in the forest rather than in the 'man-village'. Relies more on visual effects and oversized animals than storyline content. Just awful

Watched with my 3 children, 6,13 & 15 and all agreed it was rubbish! I'm gutted I've just wasted £10. If you really want to see it, wait until it's available to rent as you will only watch it once. I was so looking forward to this movie, only wish I'd read the reviews further down. I agree about the voice casting, totally wrong and too much cgi. pretty pointless remake, stick with the original!

Bad adaptation of the original

My wife and I were excited about watching this version of The Jungle Book but we were bored within the first half an hour and switched it off. This isn't worth buying to be honest. The original story has changed quite a bit (which did not have to necessarily be a bad thing) and the wonderful humour of the original cartoon is entirely missing in exchange for just drama. The voice overs are not great, and much of the dialogue comes across as silly, rather than entertaining. The original Jungle book showed how Mowgli was more of a creature of the jungle than a 'man cub', but this film has made the animals more human than they need to be. Overall, apart from the anger and fierceness of Shere Khan, this movie lacks substance.

Excellent

I have to say, this film was pretty good. I think it deserves four stars, not bad casting and the effects were quite good.

Imaginative and brings the sketch to reality

This adaptation of the jungle book differs in detail from the Disney Classic in regard to the gender of Kaa (the snake), the visualisation of King Louis (the Orangutan) and the presentation of the elephants in which Colonel Hathi (the protagonist of the elephants) is not identified. Scarlett Johansson (Kaa) made her character sound more sinister than Kaa would have sounded with a male voice - and it worked. This whole remake is about making The Jungle Book realistic to the audience despite the fact it features the animals having advanced communicative skills; hence the flawless CGI featured in this film and the small changed details that help this happen. As a live action take on the classic animation, this film immerses you in the well-known story of The Jungle Book and is by far one of the best remakes of any Disney classic.

Why bother with another remake!

I watched this last week, i was expecting or rather hoping it would deliver but instead i was confronted with another pointless remake of a legendary story! There's far to much CGI, and whoever did the casting for the voiceover work did a rubbish job of it! Idris Elba as Shere Khan just didn't work for me as well as Ben Kingsley (Bagheera) & Scarlet Johansson as Kaa. This film should have been so much better, and isn't for a young Kid's i'd say more 10yrs +. If you want to treat your kid's to a live action version of Jungle Book, Rudyard Kipling's (1942) movie is far more enjoyable! Or just stick to Disney's 1967 Cartoon classic! Wait for the rental to become availble, don't bother buying it!

The best remake ever IMHO

This is, without doubt, the best remake of a classic movie I have ever seen...and I love the original 1967 animated classic. Full of heart, humour, emotion and talent. Great soundtrack too!

It's a fantastic take on an old classic. The film is Visually stunning for both the jungle and the animals and the story line is great too which makes it a stunning film that all ages would love. I like the fact that we get to see how mowgli ended up in the jungle and see the Background about shere Khan and how he
Hates man. Go see it you won't be
Disappointed.

I felt that this film was not too bad but not good either. This movie is missing some iconic characters such as the vultures and they made Baloo way too plain. Although this was supposed to me a more serious take on the classic i feel that the light hearted jokes are what make the jungle book what it is known to be and you do get a few cheap laughs here and there but nowhere nearly as good as the original.
