Great film!

This film gets poor reviews. Sure it hasn’t got the budget of the original hit and the cgi is sub-par, however it’s a fun ride and worth a watch.

Possibly the most ridiculous film ever made. Shocking.

Put off by the neg reviews eventually watched it enjoyed it.Independance day was such a hit a follow up inevitably people had the highest expectations.

Immense film, a huge space ship, everything blows up. A film that makes "2012" look sophisticated and subtle. Nobody can act, in fact it makes Bruce Willis look the natural successor to Sir Lawrence Olivier. A storyline so bad that it makes "Crossroads" seem like an epic. A script so poor that it makes "Cobra Woman" look like a 20th century masterpiece.

Yes an epic, loved it!!

I was put off by reviews telling me this film was one of those woke fillms, but it really isn't. Just a everyday made for the American Apple Pie eating famly on a weekend. Nothing special, nothing fancy, nothing new, just a decent film with Uncle Sam values like the old days.

Its not as bad as what i thought it would be, after all the bad reviews. Its actually quite entertaining and does have very enjoyable moments but.. Unfortunately it falls flat on the important moments and then doesn't provide that impact or importance like the first. The film didn't need Will Smith but it makes sure you know he's no longer around. Its a disappointing sequel that could have been so much there. It has the moments where it could have been awesome but then doesn't delivery. It all happens so quickly. It just doesn't have the patience and anticipation and fear of the first. Its got a 90's quality which is great but is no way near the quality of what made the Original Indepence Day Special. If they make a 3rd i really really hope they put some effort and careful thought into the story and characters used. Hopefully will be what we all want.. A great film!!

I had the dubious pleasure of watching this film on its initial release. I sat there open mouthed, incredulous at the sheer scale of the utter drivel put before me. At least the original had a bit of gung-ho about it(the Presidents speech aside, which you could conveniently skip on dvd).

This however, could only be described as a bloated affair with no sense of drama purpose or logic.

I see now that iTunes are offering it at a reduced price in the UK £5.99. I still wouldn't have this if it was gifted to me. Avoid!

Title should have been Independence Day, Regurgitation.

Iv researched and came across many reviews throughout the internet, seen many of the comments below and many reviews on YouTube, and Iv got to express, I am quite disappointed with the fact that this movie hasn't received as much praise and respect as it should have, when I watched it for the first time on the big screen (cinema) I enjoyed every minute of this movie! Every minute locked me in my seat in suspense of what was going to happen next and how.

Tons of suspense started from the get go of this movie, wondering when will the aliens arrive and what would the result be when they do, during the first section of this movie there are events building the suspense, a suspense which got me thinking, and that is something that a lot of movies does not do. From root to branch, beginning to end throughout the entire movie, it was quite a thrill, entertaining, and quite gripping, gripping in the sense of making you wonder about the emotions of the characters, the coming events-suspense, and the development of the story.

This can be a family movie in my view, however, I do think some parts of the movie needs a parents perspective first.

For all the reasons I listed and expressed above, I am giving this movie a 4 out of 5 star rating, if I could go higher, I would be rating this movie 4.5 out of 5.

Right so where do I begin...Firstly this movie in my opinion is in my opinion the best follow up they could make, with the fact that humanity "Upgraded" there tech to try combat the aliens, with the aircraft looking awesome

It also has a great cast, plus the return of some of the cast from first.

It maybe not be to some people's tastes, as said below, but I do honestly feel it worth the watch.

Considering that they had 20 years to write a script and make a sequel to the vastly superior Independence Day movie, everybody involved in this film should immediately retire from Hollywood. This is nt even a 'so awful that its good' movie - its just truly dire. The acting is wooden, the script is lazy and cliche, and the running time is overly long. Even the special effects are nt anything to enjoy. Save your time, and your money, and avoid like the plague. You have been warned.

This film is what brings Hollywood into disrepute - the thin script is padded out by a group of actors unable to match the naive charm of the 1st film and you quickly notice those who did not return for this 'pay day'; this is a film where the producers and director clearly felt the bonanza of extra special effects would save the day - purile and to be avoided!

I was dubious about getting this movie due to bad reviews, but after watching it I was pleasantly surprised. Most reviews are based on the fact of how the first film moved action films as a genre forward which this film doesn't do, but this would equally as good had it been brought out straight after the first. A good film I'll watch again.

I wish I'd read the reviews before renting this, probably one of the worst sequels I've seen! A potentially good sequel ruined by a rubbish script and unnecessary characters! Given it one star but only because zero isn't an option

I wouldn't have rented it unless I wanted to like it. Now I just hate myself. It felt like the script was written by a spotty fifteen year old boy in 1996. I could pour cliches into this review and it would be one thousand times more original than Independence Day Resurgence. Do yourself a favour and throw yourself off a high-rise building; the landing will be less painful than watching this film.

I had heard it was bad but there are no words to describe how poor this sequel is. I loved the original but apart from the dazzling CGI this film really has no redeeming qualites. Very dissapointed that they couldn't do more with what could have been a great franchise.

I remember watching the first film and although it was a popcorn film, it was a bit of a guilty pleasure. This film is beyond awful and Geoff Goldblum's corny one liners made me cringe every time. It's just another Hollywood CGI fest with no storyline, plot and characters you couldn't care less about. Don't waste your time or money. I saw Arrival the other day and that's a proper Alien Sci-Fi film.

It was cringeworthy in places. There were parts of the film where you thought - "No - don't move on from this - this is just starting to get good!" And then the story moved on to some rubbish time filler.

Please do not waste your money on this film. Use it to rent the first film. Probably one of the worst films ever!!!

What a terrible film. Lacks the wit and style of the first one and everyone involved seems to be simply going through the motions. And there are a lot of people involved. characters come and go without adding anything, the acting is either wooden or embarrassed to be there. The film's only fun comes from predicting the cliche.

I can see why Smith stayed away. you should too.

if you want to watch independence day watch the first one, as this is poor rehashed V2, that totally lacks Will Smith's one liners and charisma.

This disaster movie was actually a disaster!!

Terrible mess.

It's good, not great, but a decent sequel. not as brilliant as the first film but by no means a disaster. I'm happy with the rental, yes a bit busy with random characters but if you remember whose kid is whose from the first film, it's a bit less confusing. Def missed Will Smith but the rest of the old cast were a welcome sight and the story wasn't confusing at all, not sure why people would think that. Anyways left open for a really interesting part III. Rather than yet another earth invasion we are going to have some interstellar war! :)

Just over halfway through it as I write this. Awful. Too much going on. The pacing is all over the shop and you end up not knowing what's going on and really not caring. Great original let down by this pile of rubbish.

If you are hoping to see 'Murica save the planet again, but this time with China in tow (for a bit of politically correct alignment) and some additional token female heroes to even up the gender inequalities of the first movie - then look no further, this is the movie for you!

A movie so bad I struggled to come to terms with what I had sat through. I couldn't sleep that night. I went to work the next morning and everyone was wondering what the hell was wrong with me. I wasn't quite myself. It wasn't long before I started vomiting all down myself at work. They sent me home. My family got worried about me too, so they sent me to see my doctor a couple of days after they found me trying to hang myself. After about 25mins in silence with my doctor I was able to say my first words after watching that horrendous movie. 'Don't.. watch.. Resurgence.. don't.. watch.. movie.. bad..' He looked at me horrified and in disbelief.. I had tried to warn him! A couple of days later my doctor was found dead in his home. He hung himself! I was the last person he spoke to. Coincidence?.. I think not. You have been warned! 'Movie.. bad.. very.. bad.. movie.. don't.. see..' It's been a hard time for me. I lost my job, my family, my home and now I'm a alcoholic. Even my dog despises me. If your going to go ahead and watch this movie anyway then go ahead. I tried to warn you. Good luck.

Loved the first film but really really disappointed with this, it could have been so much better. The special effects are good but the story is so bad.

Switch off, grab some snacks, and enjoy the ride. This is a fun film in its own right. I wish I'd seen it in 3D though. I was in my twenties for the first film, and it doesn't feel like it was that long ago. I hope I don't have to wait another 20 years for the next one.

I was really keen to watch this and see if it could live up to the first instalment minus Will Smith. First thoughts are it was great effects, no question on that bit. Story could have been a bit more detailed, but the ending leaves it open for a third film. That IPD part.2 with a pinch of salt and give a try.

Cheesy lines, a bit all over the place but had what I always wanted from the sequel with Alien battles on the ground also. Great ending. Definitely better than what some people are saying.

It was always going to be hard to follow up the original film which was great. This is pretty good though. The effects are top notch as you would expect. Would have love to have seen it at the cinema as it would have been quite impressive. Performances are OK. The story is obviously similar to the first. You know vastly technologically superior aliens attack and mankind seems doomed etc... There is a very silly part of the plot involving an alien orb from another alien species who had been conquered by the bad aliens. That did not work for me. Should have left that out. There are more aliens in it this time including a huge alien queen rather like the one in the film 'Aliens' Overall not bad but the original was definitely superior in all but the special effects.

That was the biggest pile of crap I have watched in a long time, predictable, total cgi overload, do NOT waste your money on this! Bad acting, bad cameos, bad script, bad storylines and totally 100% garbage!

The original in '96 didn't take itself too seriously and made for a great watch - unfortunately the 20th anniversary movie is awful - tries to hard to be funny, has a really poor story and the scrimp-writing and acting are feeble - two hours and £10 I'm not getting back in life.

Had the chance to go a bit darker !! But went in the direction of 100 % cheddar ! Shame really. Rent don't buy. It's so bad and disjointed no comments can describe how bad this is ! Probably almost as bad as San Andreas- which is no mean feat !

I honestly cannot think of a worse film that I've ever seen. A horrendously jumbled mess of poorly acted, forgettable and cliched characters with terrible dialogue mixed in with a story that I can only think was written by a 7 year old. It's so bad one wonders if they were intentionally making fun of themselves, like a scary movie of alien invasion films. I purchased it (despite the poor reviews) simply because I loved the original and thought it would at least be good for the nostalgic value. I am now left feeling angry at the money they have taken from me and insulted as a movie goer. Actually I feel insulted as a human being.

So excited to hear that ID2 was coming out (the first movie obviously rocked!)... What an utter disappointment - thankfully i only wasted 2 hours of my life watching this drivel on a long-haul flight rather than paying money to see it. What a shame - such massive potential and huge budget only to see a movie utterly destroyed on every level (except for CGI). Zero stars!

I lost interest in this tripe just under half way through. Over used CGI, two dimensional characters, trite, cliche ridden and just darn right boring. Go burst a spot, it would be more satisfying than this load of boll*^*cks.

I thought this would be a good film considering the time spent between the first release and this one. Oh how disappointing it turned out to be! It could never be as good as the first, I know as many sequels never do, with few exceptions. I wouldn't waste your money buying this at all!

So, where do I start with this tripe?

Firstly, the original it is not simply because, the original was a good idea. This is trying to do the EXACT same but hiding it behind a lot of green screen. Sure, graphically it is good at points. But the storyline is garbage. It's so disconnected it's unreal. Yes "aliens are attacking the earth!" But my god. This is meant to be the big daddy attack. Yet more or less, the aliens gets battered by the same technique. The plot is nonsense. Daughter of a president who has no input with any action till the end and then turns hero and mimicked the Will Smith scene in the desert in his vest. Honestly it's nonsense. I wanted this to be good but it's not. It's really not. Don't waste your money. I want those hours of my life back as well as my money!! It's so loosely put together. And literally hinted at a sequel?? God I hope not. For the budget they have for these movies, a script would have been nice. Big budget waste of time. It's full of incidents where you just ask "why would you do that?" What point has that got? Giant aliens attacking a base. I have a bus load of kids. We have no weapons. Makes sense to drive directly at the action because me and the bus load of kids are defo going to be the integral part of stopping this full show! An entire base full of guns and stuff are struggling to beat the enemy. Me and the bus load of kids should get there. For no reason. The writers want a slap. There is so much more that could be done with this instead of just throwing the same tripe out for a quick buck.

My god awful awful movie it was just a kick in the _ _ _ _ _. A true insult to the first film, save your time and money

The original Independence Day was a great film when it was released and still is so i was hoping the sequel would be as or close to the original standards... Unfortunately it isn't 😕

The film has some nice effects and looks good overall yet that's about all the praise it gets from me, it's just average at best there's nothing really that good or exciting for most of the time for a action film..and same with story itself.

It's definitely not one for purchasing for me whatever the price, I "may" watch it if on tv for free yet apart from that it's definitely not a film I'll be buying.

First one was pretty good. This was written by a 5 year old I think. The story is that bad. Saw it at the cinema in 3D and the affects are good. Couldn't sit through it at home though and I enjoy a good trashy science fiction movie normally.

the CGI was really good and the most realistic i've seen.

It had a promising start, like for the first half hour, then it just lost direction and went all over the place the last half hour was rushed and filled with plotholes.

Too many characters that in the end, there was no lead character/s. It was overcrowded with characters. At the end of the film, you're still confused on who the lead characters were meant to be. They were still introducing characters more than halfway through the film.

Recycled story. Even the people in the film say they are going to do what they did before.

Apart from the alien invasion scene, the action was lacking, no anticipation, no excitement, the action scenes fell flat and rushed.

It's the first time i felt really disappointed about a film. What a waste.

It's a mindless blockbuster just as it's predecessor was, and even more spectacular. Don't go in expecting Oscar-worthy performances or a hard-hitting storyline, expect massive effects and global chaos and one liners galore. And a HUGE spacecraft.

Leave your senses of reality and credibility with the person who checks your ticket, go tongue-in-cheek and witness ostentatious scifi at its grandest, and loudest...

Cliché ridden script, tropes around every corner, blatant pandering to the Chinese market. Garbage! Utter, utter garbage!

It's ok. Much like the first as follow ups seem to be these days. Acting is quite farcical at times, but apart from a poster it doesn't include Will Smith so that's a bonus. All in all it scrapes watchable, but only just.
