In 1962 four young men - John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr - came together to form the 20th century musical phenomenon known as 'The Beatles'. The band stormed Europe in 1963 and, in 1964, they conquered America. Their groundbreaking world tours changed global youth culture forever and, arguably, invented mass entertainment as we know it today. All the while, the group were composing and recording a series of extraordinarily successful singles and albums. However, the relentless pressure of such unprecedented fame (which in 1966 became uncontrollable turmoil) led to the decision to stop touring. In the ensuing years The Beatles were then free to focus on a series of albums that changed the face of recorded music. Master storyteller and Oscar winner, Ron Howard, explores this incredible journey in his own unique way: How did The Beatles do this? How did they cope with all the fame and pressure? How did they not only survive, but go on to revolutionise popular music? This is the greatest band ever; in case you didn't realise the fab 4 were the trailblazers they forged the path that other bands have followed ever since.
WHY all the fuss about price? ALL new films on iTunes are released as "buy" before you can rent them!!!
The Beatles were a proper BAND NOT A BOY BAND - who played their instruments and wrote their own songs.
They were not manufactured (like nowadays with X factor) they met up at school and on the music scene growing up in Liverpool.
They were inspired by blues men: Muddy Waters; Howling Wolf; Lead Belly, etc and by the rockers of their teenage years: Elvis Presley; Little Richard; Jerry Lee Lewis to name a few.
The Beatles reflected the massive changes happening in the world throughput the 60's and 70's.
Their music gradually evolved from their early super catchy pop hits into even more more innovative, psychedelic, legendary songs.
They had to give up touring as the technology and logistics of the day couldn't cope with the noise and power of Beatlemania!
The sound systems at the time just couldn't cope with the noise of their massive stadium audiences yet still they managed to play!
Amazing!
Look at their record sales online: they were a phenomenon who blazed the way forward reflecting the massive changes going on in society throughout the 60's; there's been no other band like them before or since.
Their music was energetic and exciting that's why they were so popular.
Their songs and arrangements are original, innovative and of course influential.
They influenced their own and future generations for decades to come and changed the music scene forever.
Ron Howard has captured their touring years brilliantly with this film and 21st century technology has finally managed to edit the music out from the screaming fan noise, and the colourisation of the black and white film is brilliant, breathes new life into the old footage.
Earlier recordings failed in this respect and all you could hear was the screams, it's so good to hear the Fabs live above the screams!
This film is a fascinating; entertaining work and it is indispensable to Beatles fans.

This is a part of history. It's amazing. And the people giving this 1 star because 'it's the Beatles'...grow up.

For the record I'm a bit sick of reviews reviewing iTunes as opposed to the actual movie, TV show, Album, cost etc;..
So, review of the movie/documentary
Legendary Hollywood director produces a clear Labour of love with direct involvement with living members of the band as well as using amazing footage to fantastic effect to produce a contemporary masterpiece about the early years of Beatle mania and there huge success as well as their development away from a boy-band into the geniuses that they became. Particularly lovely footage of how savvy and self-deprecating they were that no doubt helped their cause. One day a band might come close to them but the legacy the left us is still palpable fifty years later - great band (if you like their music) and an exceptionally put together and enjoyable documentary - what's left to say 5 stars..

Must watch film showcasing the early touring years of the fab 4. The picture & sound quality are the best I've ever seen of the Beatles stadium shows & interviews. Ron Howard shows how amazing the Beatles were as a live band even when they couldn't even hear themselves play! Great film that will appeal to anybody with even a passing interest in great music. Truly marvellous.
