Description

In five-time BAFTA nominated LION, five-year-old Saroo gets lost on a train travelling away from his home and family. Frightened and bewildered, he ends up thousands of miles away, in chaotic Kolkata. Somehow he survives living on the streets, escaping all sorts of terrors and close calls in the process, before ending up in an orphanage that is itself not exactly a safe haven. Eventually Saroo is adopted by an Australian couple, and finds love and security as he grows up in Hobart. Not wanting to hurt his adoptive parents’ feelings, he suppresses his past, his emotional need for reunification, and his hope of ever finding his lost mother and brother. But a chance meeting with some fellow Indians reawakens his buried yearning. With just a small store of memories, and unwavering determination, Saroo embarks on one of the greatest needle-in-a-haystack quests of modern times.

Critics have been getting a look of stock recently for their reviews not being in touch with the general public but I have to say I agree with them on Lion.
The first hour is unbelievably good but the second hour is quite slow and repetitive although does feature strong performances from the cast.
The ending is really emotional and the movie stays with you. Overall 4/5.

It is rare to find a film that is better than the book the film is based on. This film is pefectly made. Excellent timing. Wonderful acting. Moving and you will need a box of tissues when watching this film. The little boy who plays the young Saroo will melt your heart. Why did this film not receive more recognition at the Oscars and other film festivals? Should also mentioned the stunning photography in this film. This will be a timeless film and will be seen as one of the greats. A true classic.

The title says it all really. Throughout the film I was wondering why it is called Lion. I don't normally do emotion but at the end of the film....., well so as not to spoil it if you haven't watched it yet, let's just say "It got me"! Simply brilliant.

Choked up/crying watching this film. A reminder about faith in life, family, luxuries of developed country life, our heart's longing amongst pain, loss, poverty and the darker side of humanity.

Enchanting in every way

The first 45 minutes and the end (with the real 'Saroo' and both of his Mothers) are the best elments.
Those elments are Oscar winning quality.
The rest is pretty good but suffers by comparison.
The little chap who plays young 'Saroo' is quite breathtakingly gifted.
Whoever wrote bring tissues is spot on.

Outstanding film based on a true story
