Very much agree that this is a beautiful film, with many stunning shots of Alaska etc, but essentially, this guy was a bit of a wally, wasn't he? Heading off into the Alaskan wilderness with insufficient knowledge of that wilderness [surely the rivers flooding in spring is quite basic info], inadequate food, and inadequate experience. If he knew he would need to butcher animals, why didn't he get some work experience at a butchers shop? I was quite unpersuaded by him - thought he needed to pull his socks up and face his responsibilities in life, even if his parents didn't have the happiest marriage in the world. After all, what about his sister? I felt sorry for her. He should have called her. Instead, he just left her to years of torment and uncertainty as to where he was and what had happened to him. She, and his parents, were probably imagining the worst. I thought he was selfish. Know most people on here disagree with me, but just my two cents!
