Shaun Of The Dead is the best British horror comedy you will ever see. It is the first film in what Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are calling the ‘Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy’, which also include Hot Fuzz and upcoming film The World’s End. These films are, as well as being hilarious, are also overly violent and also feature a different flavour of cornetto.
The story follows slacker Shaun, (Simon Pegg), who spends most of his time at the local pub, The Winchester, with his best pal Ed, (Nick Frost). He and his stepfather Phillip, (Bill Nighy), have a terrible relationship, but he bares it for his mum, Barbara (Penelope Wilton). He is with the love of his life Liz (Kate Ashfield), who lives with her two friends Dianne (Lucy Davis) and Dave (Dylan Moran). Shaun is living a very ordinary life, until one day Liz leaves him and a virus infects everyone turning them into zombies. Shaun, the unlikely hero, has not only got to battle zombies to stay alive and save the world, but also he has to try a win back the love of his life, Liz. It is comedy at its best!
It is the original zom-com-rom, or a romantic comedy with zombies. The screenplay is perfect for the film with loads of gags, it is very well acted and it will leave you needing stitches. It is the best British comedy I have ever come across, even the soundtrack is worth owning. And although the price has been reviewed to death, you can find this film for £3 or less nearly everywhere. It is a must own, must see film if you like your horror comedies. Many films have tried to out do Shaun Of The Dead, but have failed. If you like this try Hot Fuzz, Zombieland or Doghouse.
