As a UK American football fan I would always have watched this, but its more than a sports film.. central performances by Diaz and Pacino are outstanding, some of the best speeches ever made in a sporting film, and bone crunching realism about the NFL that not many knew before the film and certainly do now, head on a swivel, any given sunday are phrases in US football folklore and rightly so. An unmissable sports film, even if you do not like NFL, and for any Diaz,Pacino, Stone fan you wont be disappointed. Jamie Foxx is outstanding , as is Woods fairly brief performance. Clearly some interest in NFL will make this film better for you, its a great sport to get into! and if you don't, well its a well crafted and acted film nonetheless, and worth renting at the very minimum. I've seen them all, - the Express, Friday Night Lights etc etc and I still come back to this every six months or so - its that good. Watch and enjoy, but if you hate sports - don't go there.

I really enjoyed this film despite knowing next to nothing about American Football. Some great performances and a topical insight into the business behind the game.

An accurate portrail of profesional football and the conflict between past and present.

An excellent mashup of material. I am a fan of sports movies generally, and most of them are fairly linear in structure, uplifting and climaxing at the end. The climax to this film is astounding, if you are open enough to follow all the different interlinked storylines. The complexity of the game, from battles of ownership and management, to coaching the team and dealing with the skills and egos of individual players, and the fans as well as media in terms of advertising... the vista is huge, and Stone does incredibly well in containing it within the frame of the flat screen.

This film is epic. There are heroes at many different levels, and the characters are not flat. The action scenes are as vital as any combat film, the sound is magnificent, full and deep.

This film is mixed up and doesn't know if it wants to be save the last dance or remember the titans. The plot is vague and the ending is poor and to sum it all up, the film is far too long and drawn out in the process. If you are going to watch it, at least rent it first before you buy.
