This was a brilliant start to the trilogy. I’ve not read the books yet but going off this movie the books should be amazing. This is a great movie plus the many hours of extras ie behind the scenes stuff make it worth the price.

Its not extended. I used to have the original DVDs and they had a huge amount more in. The advertisement is a lie.

Movie have English subtitle but nothing on the extras - making of etc. unfair as we pay full price and it is inaccessible

Where are all the extras?! Two towers has 4 commentaries currently in the U.K., fellowship has none.

Before you buy please note that any of the original LOTR releases on UK iTunes only have the regional DVD extras. Not the full appendices. Frustrating as that’s the reason I bout the trilogy. The Hobbit films have full iTunes extras but these don’t. For some reason the US iTunes have the full appendices. Just bear this in mind before you buy. Would have given it 5 stars but the extras are seriously lacking. Shame. I’ll have to stick to the blue ray releases.

This film is amazing.It sticks to J.R.R Tolkien’s book and I highly recommend it😀

Great films but on the dvd release there is over 10 hours of extras, iTunes extras is not the same, was looking forward to all the extras that itunes do not offer :(

Whilst the film is very enjoyable, as was the theatrical version, I was very disappointed with the amount of extra material added in the Extended Version. The Theatrical Version is 2H58m (178mins) long, whereas the Extended Version is 3h48m (228mins) long. So you would think there would be 50mins of extra footage in the Extended Version. Alas no! The titles at the end of the extended version last a full 27mins!!!

I'm not very happy that I shelled out £3.50 for just 23mins of extra scenes.

After seeing the extended version of the trilogy I really can’t watch the original version, it just doesn’t make sense!

The quality of the picture is great in HD is great. I highly recommended the extended version over the normal version, it isn’t just a bunch of deleted scenes that should have stayed deleted, it adds scenes that are needed for the story to make sense and flow and character development.

I love LOTR's movies, they have held up very well (CGI) considering they were made almost 20 years ago. However, the iTunes extras are very poor and not a touch on the BluRay versions. The only bonus by having the iTunes versions of all the trilogy, is the fact you don't need to swap the disc. lol.

Unfortunately, the old phrase ‘caveat emptor’ springs to mind, here. The screenshot for the extras shows imagery that any fan recognised as the Appendices from the extended DVD/Blu-Ray edition. Sadly, that’s not what you get here. Instead, three short documentary features (which I presume were from the standard edition’s second disc) are all that’s included. No appendices, and certainly none of the three commentaries included on the original discs. Of course, the film is as wonderful as ever, but this is a horribly misleading title, that shows absolute contempt for customers like me who have owned these films on every conceivable format. Hold onto your box set and don’t bother with this disappointing con-job.

In a short summary - very disappointing. I already own this on both DVD and Blu-ray and this iTunes version has only 3 extra features in the iTunes Extras, which represent a tiny fraction of what's available on the Blu-ray/DVD releases. Given that the Extended editions of the Hobbit contain all of the same features, it's a real shame that Warner/New Line and Apple haven't sorted this out and brought the iTunes extras up to scratch. I would avoid if you want this to be a digital replacement of the your existing media, given how much is missing. Of course the film is great, but the Appendices of the other versions are at least as good as the film and you are being significantly short changed here.

$39 for the extending versions of all 6 films in the US...

How can apple justify this price escapes me.

Come on Apple....Its a trilogy...So do a bundle deal for all three extended editions...or even all 6 including the hobbit trilogy extended editions. We've waitied long enough. Its on my wish list but i will not pay silly money individually.....SO COME ON...AND GET IT ON....You've got to keep up with the peoples input.

5 star film but 1 star for lack of Appendices (iTunes Extras) and we still only have 2 of the extended editions.

Why isn't there a trilogy for The Lord Of The Rings for the UK? It is available in the US and Canada but not here... blatantly unfair! Its more expensive buying individually than a bundle.

I absolutely adore the extended versions of these films, and were they available when I purchased the normal LOTR's I would most definitely have bought the extended ones instead! I'm left not wanting to buy duplicates, however would much prefer the extended versions, may I suggest that there is an option to pay the extra to upgrade the film to the extended, such as you do with buying the rest of an album? This would be amazing if so!

The Two Towers extended edition was available a few days ago (indeed, I bought it as soon as I saw it), but now it's saying that it's not available in the UK. What happened? Was it a mistake? It's about time we got the trilogy.

I would purchase this in a heartbeat IF New Line and Apple would pull their fingers out and release the complete EXTENDED trilogy bundle WITH iTunes extras. The US and Canada have this for years. It can’t be that difficult to upload these files to your UK/European servers. Please sort it out. You’ve got The Desolation Of Smaug extended being released in a couple of weeks. What better time to run a Lord Of The Rings promotional tie-in and release the extended editions?

To echo so many others, I too am holding out for all three special editions to be available. Happy to give Itunes my money for the complete set. Not happy to settle for one 1 out of 3.

This film is amazing. I really want to buy it and fully intend to but I won't buy it until itunes release the other two extended editions at an equally reasonable price. I give this the full 5 stars based on the film but this review and these comments (as with others) are to hope that studios wise up.

There are films which are presented in high definition but all to often the original pallet lets it down this trilogy and the new hobbit is glorious in HD and Apple does not disappoint very little difference to blue ray but for once I'm waiting for all three here currently you can buy the blue rays for£25 but I wanted it here? Guess it won't happen as there is no money in it only customer satisfaction ? Please address?

Im super glad that iTunes has released this but i haven't got it yet on account of the fact that there is only the one out, ill get all three of them when they are out, as the extended edition is great but i won't get this one till the others appear x

Absolutely fantastic film and as many have said before me overdue for release on the iTunes store in the UK (limited edition at least). But thankfully it is here, now lets have the rest please.

I don't see the point of only having one of the trilogy on here. I can't be the only person fed up with geographical restrictions. I'm tired of greedy film companies scared of losing out on a few quid! The iTunes Store should be the same everywhere, they still get our money. They over complicate things way too much.

The extended trilogy is on my wish list and has been for a very long time, available as a set in the U.S. and we in the U.K. have waited long enough. Now, lets have the whole trilogy please. LOTR fans won’t buy this now single film, they will continue to wait if they have to to get the set at the right price.
