Description

The #1 Sci-Fi Film of all time! Visually spectacular, intensely action-packed and powerfully prophetic since its debut, Blade Runner returns in Ridley Scott's definitive Final Cut, including extended scenes and never-before-seen special effects. In a signature role as 21st-century detective Rick Deckard, Harrison Ford brings his masculine-yet-vulnerable presence to this stylish noir thriller. In a future of high-tech possibility soured by urban and social decay, Deckard hunts for fugitive, murderous replicants - and is drawn to a mystery woman whose secrets may undermine his soul. This incredible version features the definitive Final Cut of Ridley Scott's legendary Sci-Fi classic.

Although this movie has had more cuts than a Sunday roast, it's just class. You need this and the 1982 narration version leave out the directors cut from 1992. Its worth looking out for the complete score.

This is truly one of the greatest science fiction films ever made, one that requires a thinking viewer in order to understand and appreciate it. The Director's Cut is the recommended one to see as it omits a somewhat distracting narration and avoids an unnecessary Hollywood-style ending that is at odds with the rest of the film's tone, I would also recommended The Final Cut too . A true science fiction story or film is about ideas, not spaceship battles, futuristic gadgets, or weird creatures. Blade Runner fully qualifies as this in its examination of the impact of technology on human society, existence, and the very nature of humanity itself. These themes are set in a fairly basic detective story that moves slowly but gradually builds power as the viewer is immersed in a dystopian futuristic Los Angeles. Harrison Ford fans accustomed to the normally dynamic roles that he plays may be dissatisfied with the seemingly lifeless lead character that he portrays here as the replicant-hunting detective known as a Blade Runner. They should be, for this dissatisfaction is part of the film experience, part of the dehumanized existence in the story's setting. However, as the story unfolds, we see Harrison Ford's character, Rick Deckard, slowly come alive again and recover some humanity while pursing four escaped replicants. The Replicants, genetically-engineered human cyborgs, that Deckard must hunt down and kill are in many ways more alive than Deckard himself initially. Their escape from an off-world colony has an explicit self-directed purpose, whereas Deckard’s life appears to have none other than his job, one that he has tried to give up. By some standards, Deckard and the Replicants have thin character development. However, this is a deeply thematic and philosophical film, and as such the characters are the tools of the story's themes. Each character reflects some aspect of humanity or human existence, but they lack others, for each is broken in ways that reflect the broken society in which they live and were conceived/created. There are several dramatic moments involving life-and-death struggles, but most of these are more subdued than in a normal detective story plot. The film's power is chiefly derived through its stunning visual imagery of a dark futuristic cityscape and its philosophical themes. Among the themes explored are the following: - The dehumanization of people through a society shaped by technological and capitalistic excess. - The roles of creator and creation, their mutual enslavement, and their role reversal, i.e., the creation's triumph over its creator. - The nature of humanity itself: emotions, memory, purpose, desire, cruelty, technological mastery of environment and universe, mortality, death, and more. - Personal identity and self-awareness. - The meaning of existence. If you are not someone who naturally enjoys contemplating such themes, the film's brilliance may be lost on you. The climax involves a soliloquy that brings many of the themes together in a simple yet wonderfully poetic way. Anyone who "gets" the film should be moved by this; others will sadly miss the point and may prefer watching some mindless action flick instead. Blade Runner is a masterpiece that deserves recognition and long remembrance in film history!

Blade runner is one of my favourite films and this version is definitely the best. An excellent picture (in HD) in fact it looks better than how I remember seeing it at the imax cinema attached to the museum of film photography and television in Bradford back in the early nineties.
Looking forward to seeing it again in 4K when I get a new Apple TV.

It’s fine.

I rented this film as a prelude to going to the cinema to see the new film. I was frankly so bored with pace and artsy fartsy nonesense I could not bring myself to watch all the way to the end. I am VERY pleased I spent 3.49 pounds on this, as it has saved me paying more money at the cinema AND saved me from wasting 3 hours to see the next one ! Avoid, Avoid and Avoid.

Great Film, Terrible conversion

All of the Warner Bros content so far on the Apple TV 4k is very, very graining but this is by far the biggest offender. The film is as amazing as it has always been and the Final Cut is the definative verison. But the 4K conversion is truly horrendous. The grain and noise level is so bad that in some scenes it borders on unwatchable. Warner Bros have not cleaned up the print at all, just seemingly upscaled and sharpened it. This, along with the strange artifacting of the new H.265 / HEVC codec, creates a very poor viewing experience.

Everything about this movie is great!
From the stunning visual effects to the mesmerising soundtrack and not forgetting a great cast of actors who all played their part in this spectacular masterpiece in filmmaking.
£6.99 for a 4K movie is an absolute bargain, and including all the extra features!

This film is simply stunning in its vision, story, and cinematography. The soundtrack by Vangelis is also second to none. Such rich dark atmosphere and thought provoking questions which call for soul searching, and a reconsideration of what we define as life, worth, dreams and consciousness. A truly remarkable cinematic achievement, absolutely top of the intelligent science fiction genre.
Now stunningly remastered and presented in 4K with an incredible iTunes Extras package. Giving a very broad perspective of the films production and continuing legacy.

I came in skeptical because of some of the reviews but I decided to get this for £5.99 and I am not disappointed at all :)
It looks great and there's no narration that dumbs the movie down, watched this recently before the purchase and it's one of the best sci fi movies I've watched, the effects and the music are top notch too

States in item description over 3 hours of extras. No extras present on download. Spent up to three hours with customer support who couldn't resolve the problem apart from manually sending Extras as separate file, but if it's deleted can't re-download! This needs to be looked into iTunes!

Fourteen quid for the 30th anniversary edition of one of my utmost fave sci-fi movies of all time in full 1080p HD - happy with that!
The movie looked crisp and timeless…
It did make me think that, since the film is set in 2019, how far away we are from that kind of futuristic dystopia - no flying cars, no blimps with video adverts floating around… and of course no replicants - however, all this I say having watched the film on a tablet computer, orders of magnitude more powerful than the Kray computers of the time that weighs less than the box that the VHS movie came in when I first watched the film ^_^ it’s a mad world!

I have been a fan of this film as long as I can remember. But there has always been an itch I could not scratch; the master was not allowed to finish his work. With this final cut the work is at last complete.
Masterpiece.

Bought the Final Cut ages ago and then they release this 30th anniversary ed and did not bother to keep the previous versions in the cloud! This is not fair, like an app, Apple should upgrade their versions for people who bought previous ones!

Whilst the film really did capture the atmosphere etc. there are many things in the book (Do robots dream of electric sheep,) that the film missed. Anybody who hasn`t read the book would not understand the unicorn reference - for example.
Getting into the mind of Philip K Dick is an experience in itself and the book is actually quite thin - go read.

First off, Blade Runner is a atmospheric, exciting, beautiful piece of sci-fi noir and an essential purchase.
And second off, every reviewer out there, stop giving this film 1 star, Blade Runner is a classic, I would be fine if you gave the film 1 star if you didn't like the premise, or the acting, or the CGI, but giving a film 1 star because it doesn't have HD, that's ridiculous! Rate a movie on it's quality, not it's format; also, now Blade Runner has HD, everyone can go back and change their review so it's about the film, not some personal vendetta.

HD is LOWER resolution than standard film. This seems to be a bit of a common misconception, that pre-HD movies will be a lower quality.
This couldn't be further from the truth - if a movie was shot on film it is DOWN-converted to HD, not UP.
Bladerunner in HD is, in a word, spectacular. Beautifully shot in the first place, it looks better in this format than in any previous home-video release by a huge margin.

Yet another re-release of this over-rated flick. I have seen various versions of it and have never really understood why it keeps being paraded as some kind of masterpice. Sure, it was genre defining at the time, but that time was the early 80's and it really hasn't aged well. Yet another re-release just smacks of George Lucas style cashing-in .

So many people asking for HD without understanding the process involved. The film was shot on film and its warmth and its 'fuzziness' and softness SHINES. Pushing film to HD limits is difficult. Understand the technology. To refine HD from poor quality would mean almost redrawing every scene. That may come later. Or wait for BR2.

An amazing movie that works on several levels. Watching it now is as good as ever and to realise that nothing that was done on it used any CGI just makes it even more spectacular. It's a shame Ridley Scott had to put a voiceover on for "the American Audience" , which dumbed the movie down for the rest of us, however this has been taken out in the directors cut.
Although as others have said, I would ONLY buy this movie on HD. There is no excuse not to have it on HD, especially since the BluRay has been out for years. 5* for movie, 0* for the idiot at WB who decided to release this SD
