I’m astounded that anyone would give this film less than 4 stars, brilliant acting all round, fantastic cinematography, great choreography, suspense, mystery, I actually think this is one of Tom Cruise’s best films!!

I can’t understand some of the bad reviews here but I thought it was a gripping movie. Ok, maybe starts off a bit slow but then turns into a really great suspense/ action movie. Really great performances from Pike, Oyewolo, Herzog and Cruise is made for this role - he is superb. Can’t wait for the sequel!

Almost every tom cruise film (bar live die repeat) is god awful. i am still not sure if it is him or the scripts he takes. should have learnt my lesson and not wasted 2 hours of my life on such awful twaddle

Awful script and dreadful acting. Utterly predictable with only a couple of reasonable action sequences saving it from total failure. Save your money and wait for this to be on TV. It won't take long.

So i have read a lot of the books and Reacher stands 6ft 4 or so. A touch taller than Cruise and although i am not a Cruise fan having read the books i filled in the blanks and found it quite enjoyable. There are others that i think would have played out better on the screen and starting at the 5th or 6th book if they intend to follow it up may prove ill judged but all in all worth 2 hours of my life

Really enjoyed this film! I'm a fan of Tom cruise I must admit and so I really enjoyed this. It's a tense action thriller that you'll be watching all the way through. I held off watching because of what others said of the contrast of the actual books being very different.. But you have to understand film and books are a different media, so you'll never actually get everything to detail from book to film.

With a cast list including some pretty respectable and experienced actors, the potential was wasted. Poor directing resulted in wooden acting (albeit not consistently), boring camera work and lots of clichés. Overall it felt more like watching a made-for-TV movie.

Love Reacher novels - must have read at least 10 of them. Love Tom Cruise too he's one of my favourite actors, but he just isn't Jack Reacher for me. Maybe they should have gone with a lesser known actor - one who is really tall as it's such a big part of the character! Still definitely worth a rent tho, but better still - get a reacher book and read it!

When reviewing this movie you should remember it is meant to entertain and this it does very well.

It may not be exactly like the book but nor can it be. A book can offer in one sentence or paragraph what a film often takes 5/10 minutes to convey

Tom Cruise will always give his best which many of us enjoy but some do not. I thought all of the cast were good. It is a typical American action movie which on the whole they make very well and turn them out by the dozen.

You either accept this or not but the object is to entertain and make money for your investors and this film does entertain. It is pure escapism and should be treated as such. Every so often the studios produce a real gem of a movie. I think Source code was one. Avatar another and Oblivion a third to name but 3. There are dozens of others. So this movie is enjoyable but not 5 star by any means.

For those who have read the Jack Reacher series of books by Lee Child, this film will leave you cringing.

The written character Jack Reacher is definitely not Tom Cruise; however hard he tries.

It would have been less criticised and enjoyed by most, if it was given a different main character’s name.

Love the Jack Reacher books and love this film. Tom Cruise was fantastic as ever. If I really had to make a criticism, Jack Reacher in the books is a six foot + brick ****house Tom is not, but ignoring that he did good job.

I really enjoyed this film. Those who had read the book, this may not be for them but for me who had not read the book I really enjoyed it. Good story, decent acting, good bit of action with a nice car chase in it. Tom did a stand up job as the lead character and the rest of the cast made it all come together. If you want action with a good story you could do a lot worse!

I can't understand how people can be negative about this film. A fantastic story line, with good action parts. Cruise and Rosamund Pike are both 1st class. One of the best films I have seen in a long time, comments echoed by others I have talked too.

tom cruise is a silly little twirp how likes to run around everywhere. I dont see the point in casting him as an action hero. He belongs in the hobbit - he would be the gay one. The film was ok its just he is unwatchable IMO

I'm not a cruise fan, and after reading some reviews I bought this thinking 50/50. I was pleasantly surprised. I thought the action scenes were decent and I liked the humour in the movie. Cruise got a lot of grief playing Reacher but I think he pulled it off.

While tense in places.

This is yet another example of Hollywood wasting their budget on a mediocre plot.

It builds you up with twist after twist making you think there must be more to it!, but in the end the house of cards comes crashing down leaving you with a stinging taste of bitter disappointment in your mouth .

surely there must be better novels to remake than this light weight garbage .?

Having read the book and nearly every other Jack Reacher book, I was sceptical about the casting of Tom Cruz. However, it didn't disappoint; you quickly forget that Tom is only a little guy and Jack was supposed to be a man mountain. Film was faithful to the book with brilliant direction. It's a must see !

While I would agree this is not terribly original it is a solid action film well executed with a reasonable plot if slightly weak end. Cruise is as usual Cruise. Slightly surprised how many people here thought he would not be. In fairness I have not read the book so don't come with the pre-conceptions that many do. Supporting cast was strong especially Pike and Duvall.
