Description

A signature brew of camaraderie, knockabout humor, excessive quaffing, questionable life choices, hand-to-hand combat, and explosive surprises, The World’s End reteams director Edgar Wright with actors Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, following their hits Shaun of the Dead (2004) and Hot Fuzz (2007). The tale of The World’s End begins on June 22nd, 1990. In their suburban U.K. town of Newton Haven, five boys in the prime of their teenage youth celebrate the end of school by attempting an epic pub crawl together. Despite their enthusiasm and the downing of a slew of pints of beer, they fall short of seeing their quest through, to the last pub on their list, The World’s End. Twenty-odd years later, “the five musketeers” have each left their hometown and are now husbands, fathers, men with careers – with the flashing-red-light exception of their voluble onetime ringleader, Gary King (Simon Pegg), who is now a 40-year-old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens. The irrepressible Gary, keenly aware of his estrangement from his onetime closest friend Andy (Nick Frost), becomes hell-bent on trying “The Golden Mile” drinking marathon again. He convinces Andy, Steven (Paddy Considine), Oliver (Martin Freeman), and Peter (Eddie Marsan) to stage an encore, and one Friday afternoon they are all reunited. Gary is in his element: the mandate is one night, five guys, twelve pubs – imbibing at least one pint apiece at each establishment. Arriving in Newton Haven, they re-encounter Oliver’s sister Sam (Rosamund Pike), for whom Gary and Steven each still carry a torch. As the gang attempts along the way to reconcile their past and present, an increasingly insane and dangerous series of encounters with old haunts and acquaintances makes them realize that the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries…

Loved previous two...this though was unfunny. Agree with what people said, lacked chemistry and likability...

Apple has put this as a stand out film..... why I don’t know because it’s completely rubbish. I understand the elements are there to make a slightly retro style film as it harks on about the 90’s in every other line or the 80’s but it’s just a crap film. I’ve got a mate who keeps bleeting about this nonsense film. So I have to suffer the embarrassment of his love for this rubbish as he quotes nonsense from it like some kind of wind up annoying toy. It’s just crap !!!!

A real disappointment

Compared to the rest of the trilogy (Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead which are epic) this film is a massive let down. Unfunny and Simeon's character is vile. The only bonus for me is the lush Mr Frost in a suit. Sorry guys, you should've chosen Paul to complete the trilogy.

Where are the iTunes extras that the US have had since it was released. Come on Working Title and Apple. Start giving us faithful UK iTunes customers the same respect as our overseas cousins. This is a BRITISH FILM!!! You’d make a bigger dent on my bank balance if you did!

I don’t hate it, that isn’t fair. As a piece of entertainment it isn’t bad, there’s a lot worse around. I just don’t think it was a fitting end to the Cornetto trilogy.

Total waste of money, time and life. I mean what is it trying to be, poignant, nostalgic, sic-fi, apocalyptic? What I know it was, it was 30 minutes too long and I know what it wasn’t, it was NOT funny.

Dull

This is a bad film. Much less than the sum of its' parts. Bad jokes, lazy scriptwriting, ridiculous fight sequences; even the wonderful Paddy Considine couldn't save this turkey. Avoid.

Somebody has spent too long resting on their laurels. I really enjoyed Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz & Paul but it is time to retire this particular quirky buddies formula. It was way too long, predictable and not really funny. Hopefully in their next effort the ante will be well and truly upped but I can't recommend this one.

I have not yet sampled the first two of the Pegg and Frost franchise, only "Paul" so I thought it worth the watch, a little slow at first but boy it was funny and a great Friday night in with friends, really enjoyed! Will now be watching the first two movies of the Pegg and Frost Franchise!

Contains Spoilers:
Thankfully I didn’t buy it but picked this up on rental for £2 at my local shop after reading the reviews.
Like others on here, I just didn’t care for the characters. Also too long and a lame conclusion akin to a bad episode of Doctor Who: “We’re human, go away you nasty aliens”.
Also, it was lazy. Running around knocking the heads off of creatures and getting their ‘blood’ all over you - sound familiar? Although, to be fair, the excellent Shaun of the Dead doesn’t deserve to be compared to this mess.

Sadly, this film relies on profanity to compensate for a very weak plot and poor writing.
That ending would have been rejected by any focus group who had the misfortune to see it.

And no, you don't kill off Martin Freeman that quickly!

Quirky, low-budget, tongue-in-cheek British sci-fi adventure, in a similar vein to "Attack The Block" perhaps, which is a good thing in my book.

I love this film, it's brilliant, it's my favourite out of all of the nick frost and simon peg movies, somthing so iconic about the friendship they have and about how a few drinks and a few robots can change everything, and as much as everything else , the fact that they get so dam drunk is so funny

I was a big fan of Messrs Pegg and Frost, but I find this movie hard to credit in any way whatsoever. I certainly echo the worst reviews - I am staggered that anyone could intentionally rate this a five, four or even a three star movie. It smacks of a cash-in - none of the wit or clever story lines of the first two of the 'trilogy'. Re-hashed 'homages' of set pieces that were really funny in eg the fence scene in Hot Fuzz. I made the big mistake of buying the HD version, and in hindsight I so regretted not firstly viewing the trailer. My wife and I decided to switch it off with a half an hour still to go. Up 'til then we'd had a glass of wine and were really wanting to like this movie, as we so enjoyed past glories. We came to the mutual decision that we could not stand any more. Peurile! I urge you think very carefully before you rent or buy this. The one movie in my iTunes collection that will definitely remain in the iCloud!

Loved the first 2 in the trilogy & 'Paul' is one of the funniest films I have ever seen! This, though, is utter utter utter rubbish. It is a catalogue of cheap jokes & when the big surprise of the movie happened my teenage children and us just looked at each other bewildered. But everyone is different so each to his own.......

If you are expecting anything in a similar league to Hot Fuzz or Shaun of the the Dead, then think again. It's nowhere near in the same class. None of the characters are particularly likeable and the gags are not funny. On the upside, the fight scenes are pretty good. Personally, I'd wait until it's on offer in a bargain bin somewhere, and then use the disc as a coaster. Or as a weapon during a zombie attack

Considering the previous scripts and performances, this should have been an entertaining film. It wasn’t. This was a film production that 16 year old school boys could have written. The acting (if that is what this was called) reflects the script. If it was a product from a shop I would ask for my money back. Why do these people think such a weak effort is acceptable to their paying audience? Shameful.

I was actually very disappointed by this one. I rate Shaun of the dead and Hot Fuzz amongst my favourite films of all time and The worlds end just wasn't in the same league unfortunately. Worth a watch but don't expect too much.

I really enjoyed watching this movie. I think it is better than Hot Fuzz and as good as Shaun of The Dead. Some reviewers seem to be missing the point that Gary (Pegg) is supposed to be unlikeable and that is key to him turning things around and becoming likeable by the end. I like the friction between him and Andy (Frost). I thought the chemistry between characters was excellent. And Rosamund Pike was lovely, as usual. Plus an excellent soundtrack topped of by Sisters of Mercy’s This Corrosion!!

Well thats nearly two hours I will never get back. Lets be honest, Shaun of the Dead was mildly amusing, Hot Fuzz was a lot funnier but this…..what a waste of time. Stupid beyond belief. In fact so stupid that it just wasn’t funny at all and i feel conned. It seemed to go on way too long and wasn’t thought through properly at all. Very poor script, over top effects and a smattering of celebs does not a good film make.

This film barely passed the six laugh test and looking back i cannot remember why it did. I liked Shaun of the Dead, I didn't like Hot Fuzz and I really didn't like this. My biggest problem was that SImon Pegg's character is so unlikeable and so unremarkable that - like his friends at the start - I couldn't tolerate him. The difference is that his friends seem to warm towards him…. I didn't.

Best one out of the trilogy

As much as this has been marketed as a sci-fi comedy, this has some of the best acting I've ever seen from both Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. Simon can make you go from hating Gary one minute, to loving him the next. Very funny, but also very poignant moments too. Exactly why I love this film, and everyone involved in making it.

Not awful but this film played a little too much to the in jokes of the previous two movies of the “series” and lacked chemistry.

Perfectly adequate rental but you will find better.
