Description

Tim Jenison, a Texas-based inventor, attempts to solve one of the greatest mysteries in all art: How did Dutch master Johannes Vermeer manage to paint so photo-realistically 150 years before the invention of photography? Spanning a decade, Jenison's adventure takes him to Holland, on a pilgrimage to the North coast of Yorkshire to meet artist David Hockney, and eventually even to Buckingham Palace. The epic research project Jenison embarks on is as extraordinary as what he discovers.

Amazing, genuinely one of the best documentaries I have ever watched, Tim is a very focused and somewhat obsessed man, but I think he could well be right. This is well worth your time watching.

One of the best...

…documentaries I've seen in years.
The magic of this film isn't necessarily the ingenuity of the experiment but watching a non-painter completing such an incredibly painstaking and meticulous task. I would have given up long before and I began to feel some of his strain during the process! His experiment, including the incredible result and the things learnt along the way, is one of the firmest kicks to the artistic establishment possible. Well done Tim.
