We’re so used to having our hands held through films, essentially being told which characters to like and dislike and having everything explained incredibly simply all the time, that whenever an intelligent, complex film comes out there are reviews that say it’s “boring” or “slow”. If you’re writing that, then you’ve missed the point, you’re not Gone Girl’s target audience, and your review isn’t going to help anyone.
This is a tense, haunting, horrible portrait of marriage and insecurity that was, for me, the best film of 2014. Here’s a simple rule of thumb: if you enjoyed Battleship, this film isn’t for you
