I've got to say I had never heard of this song until My Chemical Romance covered it for the movie, Watchmen but looking into it, I found Bob Dylan was the original artist behind this exciting song. I listened to the original and this is alot better and more lifeful.
The video itself gets across a punk vibe, very much unlike the videos My Chemical Romance had previously released such as Helena, The Ghost of You and I Don't Love You which have all excellent videos but like I said, are very much different.

I am going to be honest

i think that the song is amazing. i know that all the bob dylan fans think that the song is completely butchered, but i think that it is a very good song and even if you never hear the original song its still amazing. and to who ever said that bob dylan must feel awful that the song was covered by my chem... well if i was bob dylan I would be pretty proud. and i'm sure they guys from my chemical romance feel honoured to be able to cover such a great song, I certainly would be. I'm not saying that everyone has to like the song. that would be ridiculous i know there are a lot of people who hate music like this, and its okay if you don't like it. opinion wise i really like this song and i hope that its gonna be in mcr's next album (if there is going to be a next album, which i sincerely hope!)

This is an awesome version of the classic Bob Dylan song. I love My Chemical Romance & I love Bob Dylan so I couldn't ask for more from a song. The band look amazing in this fast paced video that keeps with the energy of the song. Buy it!

What's Dylan thinking, you ask?

Sacrilege probeably springs to mind for most Bob Dylan fans, however, it really quite brave and I don't suppose Mr. Dylan is complaining especially when he gets his royalties. The song carries well with the updated performance by young blood, maybe a couple more verses would have made it even more stronger, worth 4 stars at least - and I'm a Dylan fan.

back with more amazing music!

Not many of the reviewers seem to be able to get past their own really rather narrow world view regarding this song. There are always going to be Dylan fans who hate anyone covering his songs unless they fit their vision of how they should be performed – these are the people that would probably have booed him when he first turned on his amp and went electric! Bob was and is an innovator who had a sense of history; her learned his craft from the performers he loved, but he made music that was far removed from the people he first began to emulate. What people must remember is that Punk is as much about re-working songs as it is originality. Go listen to the guilty pleasure that is Me First and the Gimme Gimmes. This may not be the best cover of a Dylan song, but it sure as hell rocks and I think Bob would appreciate that. Moreover, if anyone knows this song and the nature of Bob’s subversive writing you should appreciate that this is as Punk as anything; in its sensibilities and it’s content. MCR may or may not consider themselves a punk band, but they have made a punk record – if you hate it you hate it, and if you love it then you love it, but don’t just love it because its MCR, and don’t just hate it because it’s not Bob Dylan – that’s just lazy thinking and is the real reason music is in such a poor state of affairs. Bob, just like punk, stuck his middle finger firmly up at what goes for the establishment these days and as such changed and challenged musical conventions – if this song upsets you that’s a good thing and if you don’t know what all the fuss is about, put down your Xbox controller and go and see some live music, seek out the old and new alike and get yourself an opinion based upon experience not prejudice.

Seriously

I admit that Dylan is a legend, there's no doubt about that, but you can't say that this is ruining music. It's bringing something fresh and new to the table and regenerating a song which has almost died out, and Dylan fans should be almost grateful for this revival. You must appreciate the amount of excitment nd energy that has been injected into this song and it isn't a butchered song, you just don't particularly like it. If your going to critsise the band and their music, why are you looking up MCR in the first place. Find something more productive to do with your life...... maybe swing from a rope if you dare ;)

Hmmm...
This was very dissapointing. I am a fairly big MCR fan having all their previous albums. This just isn't "them". It's sung fairly poorly, a quality which would only be forgivable from Gerard when live. All I'm saying is watch the preview before you buy it. I stumbled into the error of thinking this would be as good as their other songs, without previewing. My mistake. Stick to your own stuff guys; Mr. Dylan will not be a happy man...

MCR seem to polarise opinion more than most bands, and judging by the other reviews of 'Desolation Row', nothing has changed. But like it or not, lovers of the Dylan original, taken by itself, this version finds Gerard and the boys in their comfort-zone and they deliver a blinder of vicious energy and poisonous intent. They should stick with this, as they do a pretty damn fine job of capturing the Brit-punk snot and bile sound. Five stars for attitude, three cus it's a cover.

Fantastic

i used to really like them, especially their first album. but this cover is just crap. do yourself a favour and do not buy this song - and you're hearing it from a my chem fan, yes.

Good but no 'Black Parade'. Who cares if it was a horrible Dylan song?

If you like croaky old artits with no vocal talent, purchase the Bob Dylan version. If you like good rock music with lead singers who can actually sing, then buy the MCR version of this song. This is good, hard rock. It's not as good as their own material, but it'll mabye do as a bridge between the Black Parade and a new original MCR album.

I really like it :)

I really like this song. I wouldn't say it was better than bob dylan's original, but I wouldn't say it was worse because they are the same song but different styles. I definatly don't think they wrecked it though as some people have been saying.as I said it's a very different style so it can't really be compared.
But what I should be reviewing is the song and not other people's behavour
this song is really good, catchy and the video is really good as well. It's not really what my chem usually do, but it was for the watchmen movie and the director wanted that.
Overall really good and I recomend it

In response to Nautical d's comment about MCR 'pouring out their own terrible songs' and 'taking music to a new level of poor' I would like to say that the original is a very good song and all MCR have done is make it A LOT better. Also I would like to ask Nautical D is they are deaf because MCR are a very good band who make excellent songs and do excellent covers as well ( listen to their cover of 'Under pressure' with The Used if you don't belive me.
Please take the time to read this before putting other reveiws about how 'rubbish' MCR are.

personally i agree with a comment below, remember WHO wrote this song. It was a song that one of the most amazing revolutionaries created. No one will ever be able to re-create, live up to the reputation and the passion of which this song originally created. It's similiar to the scenario of which Fall Out Boy attempting to re-create a Nick Drake song. They should seriously think about the next cover they release.

I have to say, I only like a few of MCR songs, but this song is about 1 million times better than the origonal! With this song the lyrics have more meaning and a kinda cool emo rawness to them! I luv it! Plus, I love the ending to the video and the fighting that goes on in it!

I am a huge My Chemical Romance fan, and as usual this is another amazing song from MCR. It is a really exciting and interesting song and video, and i know Bob Dylan fans are going to hate me for saying this, but it is so much better than the original.I nearly fell asleep throughout the original by Bob Dylan, but this is an exciting punk-rock song, that brings Dylans amazing lyrics to the youth. And I love the whole look of the video, as usual Gerard, Mikey, Ray, Frank and Bob have so much energy, that just roars through the screen. The end is the funniest- when they get locked up, and Frank pulls his tongue. Another great MCR video not short of legendary, and epic. Did I mention it was amazing?

an absolute classic by the legendary Bob Dylan from his fantastic album Highway 61 Revisited - lying dead in the gutter drowned in eyeliner. I'm sorry, i really don't like this cover. I appreciate the idea, or the concept that when you cover a song, you should try to do something different with it, something original, but unfortunately, 8 times out of 10 it just doesn't work, and you end up with this drivel. The purpose of the song is cynical - dark lyrics set to a sweet melody. It works because the melody is slow, acoustic, and relaxed, giving the song a reflective tone. There is, and there should never be, anything remotely punky about this song. 2/10

there back!~

i have been waiting for new music by mcr and this was just what i was looking for i absolutely love this video gerard looks mega hot and the video is amzingly catchy :) my best buy of itunes ever this video was hope their new album will be great but it's mcr so it should definitely be mcr rock on because in my opinion mcr are rock gods love them and this is a great cover mcr should be proud off people i believe this cover works really well and so do the majority of everybody reviewing just cos it's a cover doesn't mean people should be like it doesn't work, boy dylan can't be beaten because to those people here's the proof he can be beaten :)
