This show goes far beyond a real play pathfinder podcast. The amount of time, effort and craftsmanship that goes into producing this is obvious by the quality of the recording and the depth of the story. Though this is secondary to the comedic rapport that this group has with each other and the obvious love for what it is they are creating with episode and more widely, with the community they nurture and celebrate.
In the spirit of old-school tabletop role-playing games, a collection of five super-nerds engage in an Actual Play podcast of Paizo's Giantslayer Adventure Path. Using the rules of the Pathfinder RPG system, the Glass Cannon interweaves immersive storytelling with irreverent, improvised humor to deliver the experience of what it's really like to sit around a table rolling dice and ball-busting with your best buds.
The Glass Cannon Podcast is an officially licensed podcast of Paizo, Inc.
Even if you're not into RP (Pathfinder, DnD) this is worth listening to. It's a very funny, dark, moving, creative, fun story. There's a wonderful sense of (adult) humour and friendship running through the tales, as well as some really engaging hooks and deviations from the official material - even without any visual aids, this is, for me, the best RP show (let alone podcast) out there.
Listening to this made me decide to take the plunge and start up a local RP group, and I'm having a great time - thanks for the inspiration, and may this continue for a long, long time!
Funny, anarchic but authentic pathfinder rpg experience
It is awesome and my favourite character was gormly before she died
I genuinely like this. I’ve played d&d once, enjoyed it well enough, but these guys make it entertaining and work out mysteries and get bloody in battle.
I got into GCP late and started at Ep1 (as you should) and listened to all 188 (as of this review) over the last 6 months. Very funny, very fun, very nerdy! What else do you want from a Pathfinder Podcast?! If you love Pathfinder this is the podcast for you.
You need to give it 2 or 3 episodes to get its claws in you but this is a ride and a half! So worth it, if you’re on the fence, definitely give this a shot! Can’t recommend enough, skid you’re the man!
Brilliant, witty and a complete joy to listen to. I’m up to episode 10 and can’t wait to fully catch up. Lots of genuine laugh out loud moments resulting in strange looks from others when wearing headphones 😀. Also, “Don’t leave town,”
Chaps. Recently started listening which means I’ve got many many to go and I’m enjoying them all. I’m a fan of real play podcasts but only where there is chemistry and laughs between the players. This ticks those boxes and then some. Thanks from the UK!
I have been listening to amazing podcast since the 13th August whether it’s on my commute, during my break or walking the dog. I’m now on episode 48 and still loving it. It will make you smile and laugh as you listen to it. And thanks to “Skids explanations” a chance to learn the finer nuances of the rules and home brew rules.
Just the absolute best of actual play of paizo's roleplaying game, Pathfinder.
Good for long walks, eating dinner, brushing your teeth. For an hour
Hugely entertaining, brings back great memories of tabletop games! Tension and humour in abundance, your guys are terrific.
I'm a bit late to the party but loving the podcast and have listened to 33 episodes in about two weeks, frequently laughing out loud.
I've been a role player for 37 years and listening to this podcast encompasses all that is great and fun about playing role playing games with good bunch of friends.
Great job guys, keep it up.
They’ve got great chemistry and a fantastic gm in Troy. Laugh out loud funny and a great intro to pathfinder too (I’d just started playing DND 5e when I came across GCP and now I wanna try Pathfinder!)
Hands down the best podcast I’ve ever listened to, I’ve never played D&D or pathfinder but absolutely love listening to the stories that Troy and the team create through this podcast!
I’ve tried listening to a bunch of actual play podcasts and this one is outstanding. Perfect combination of chemistry between the players, comedy and an interesting storyline.
I’ve not roleplayed for about 17 years but this podcast makes me miss those days and realise that it’s possible to get back into it at the age of 37!
I’ve never had much interest in rpgs other than the south park games, but I love listening to glass cannon. The story’s great, the hosts are all clearly invested in the whole experience. The emotions are all authentic and it’s really infectious. It makes you laugh, it makes you sad, and when a battle is won it’s amazing!
It’s seriously that good. Don’t listen if you’re not looking to get invested.
Recently started listening to the GCP after a recommendation from a friend. It’s now grown to be my favourite podcast and has squeezed virtually all others off my play list as I catch up. I’m now 120 episodes behind but am looking forward to catching up. Just wish it didn’t make laugh out load on the train.
Only recently discovered this podcast and have binged the first 28 in about 4 days. Really funny, very entertaining and for me, who is used to 5e rather than pathfinder, easy to follow with the Nerdage! A friend of mine has just started running the Starfinder adventure path which I'm playing in so looking forward to listening to those too... In due course.
EPISODE 148! GOOD LORD!
It’s not a particularly important episode as far as I can tell, but for me it was incredible. These wonderful folks made me care about characters, lots of characters.
Spoilers will be below.
Lorc was always my favourite. I never once doubted him. Joe made a wonderful character. It was incredibly cathartic to see him become probably the most important character for at least one combat. Lorc needed to pull through and he did. Lorc is a hero. I’m glad that the mechanics reflected that.
This is a great Actual Play podcast,
Sure it has people who can act, who understand drama and tension, etc. But it has more. It feels like the games you and your friends did when they were young and had time to play the game and go into the depth of their characters. It has backstories that matter, character development and Episode 50 and 100 (oh man listening for those alone would have been worth it).
So sit back and relax and listen to what you wish your game could be like today.
The perfect blend of entertainment and humour, all delivered in an actual play podcast. Troy and his player's have done an amazing, and unexpected thing, they have made the Pathfinder rules very, very funny! I wonder if Jason Bulmahn intended that to happen.
Love from England
Prepare to lose your reading time!
I started listening to this podcast summer ‘17 on recommendation of a friend and on the back of enjoying an actual play DnD 5th edition podcast. I had never played a tabletop RPG, and still have not, but having had a soft intro into the genre was excited to get into something a little more advanced.
8 or so months and a couple of hundred episodes later I have finally caught up, reluctantly accepting with an appropriate sense of loss that the team cannot make 10 hours of content for me to listen to every week. For all that time, I would listen to the podcast on my commute, managing 2 episodes a day and it was intoxicating.
I think many people could be put off by rules and whatnot, but the team do not let it slow down the compelling storytelling and what I actually found is that the rules make the rolls and story direction have tangible and impactful consequences. The end game is important and the character stories are also important but nothing is sacred, every life is on the line and it just makes the progress and rewards sweeter in the end.
I can’t sing its praises enough. Listen, enjoy, get involved, join the discord, go to the conventions, subscribe to the patreon for sweet additional stories and immerse yourself in the great world of Pathfinder, lovingly celebrated and channelled through the GCP team!
Brilliant podcast. The guys all work so well together. Troy GMs like a boss and everyone works hard to balance gameplay and humor. One of the best out there..:Joe talks too much;)
Troy is funny as hell and the production quality is second to none - glad to hear how well these guys have done
I’ve been listening for a long time and haven’t yet left a review (sorry) but this podcast is completely the best. However...
Please bring back Gel. :’(
Best pathfinder (actually best any tabletop rpg) podcast around. So funny. And great from a GM perspective. Top notch!
These guys make great listening. Humour, story, action and drama, all dictated by dice.
I've loved listening to the entire campaign so far and can't wait till the next week to find out what happens next.
Keep up the great work fellas.
This is worth anybody’s time listening to. A great and extremely funny podcast devoted to actual play pathfinder. The characterization is brilliant and the team work to produce a compelling story.
I first started listening to this when I was about to run Giantslayer, and was too sick to focus on doing actual prep. I’m so happy I did though, beyond giving me a handle on for AP, this is an incredibly entertaining and riveting Podcast. I keep recommending this to my friends, but I have to be careful as several of them are playing this AP! I’ve told them though that as soon as they are finished, to go listen. Top marks!
Put simply this is the benchmark that all other actual plays need to measure themselves against. They’ve taken a published adventure path and made it their own with a fantastic narrative and genuinely likeable characters. They strike the perfect balance between serious storytelling and laugh out loud hilarity. Can’t recommend enough.
These guys are something else. I am so pleased to have had this recommended to me. I haven’t played D&D for a while, knew about Pathfinder and it has rekindled my desire to play. My group started up again and 3 of us have upped our game having listened to this. They are consummate story tellers, superb improvisers and damned funny. I am always laughing out loud on the train or walking to work – but the real trick is that I have been genuinely moved by some of the events between characters –either their personal loss or when they bond over their shared experiences. Start at the beginning and see these unique personas unfold!
The cast is hilarious, and the story is great.
Great audio, great banter ... and addictive ... cue binge 'watching'!
...Only disappointing element is there's a filthy halfy
This is a must listen for anyone ranging from DnD noob to veteran. Great roleplaying and chemistry with the characters, and the use of backstory and created story to go alongside the Adventure Path gives the podcast another dimension. Started listening early October and have just caught up ... I suggest you do the same.
I didn't know what pathfinder was when I first listened to these guys 2 years ago. Now I play two regular games a week and would recommend it to anyone! They showcase what's possible with the system, and Paizo made a good choice in selecting them as an official podcast.
Hilarious, well-constructed, full of heart.
One of the best live play RPG podcasts. Start at the beginning.
These guys get it. They know how to make a podcast. The perfect balance of narrative, game mechanics and laughs.
Glass Cannon Podcast is five genuinely funny, creative and adaptive guys who manage to put on a quality show from Episode 1.
Great audio quality too - really makes a difference.
No inside jokes. Just jokes. And funny ones which aren't followed by twenty seconds of awkward sniffle-laughing.
The players know their characters which means the listener is able to learn as they follow the story.
The players are great because they play with an incredible GM - the time and effort Troy puts in really shows.
Anyway, for those who want to try something new and flirt with the limitless promises of Pathfinder or those who are already well and truly encumbered with d20, give this a listen and add some failed skills checks to your daily commute.
A fantastic podcast for fans of story based comedy in any format, you don't have to have played a tabletop RPG before, the system is dilute in the story and the guys are really good at explaining what different aspects of the system means (queue Skid's got some 'splaining to do). Even if you're not a fan of the Pathfinder system (which is what the guys play), the focus is on the story (and Joe's rolls) so that eye twitch caused by looking at the 100+ pathfinder books on the shelf that you've barely read through isn't going to be a problem at all.
All round a great podcast with a good balance of comedy, self-deprication, amazing player story, mediocre GMing (I mean great GMing, but Troy needs knocking down a peg or two) that can be picked up easily and will have you hooked in no time (I started a month ago and have listened to 90 episodes, plus Cannon Fodder already).
I started this on episode 16 don't ask me why I didn't start on episode 1 but hey ho. It's really good and is excellent up to about the 75th episode now I would just say it is just good from 76-now and I preferred it when the episodes where shorter these longer episodes just don't feel as good..
I am 20 episodes in and I am so invested in the characters and story of this podcast, absolutely fantastic and everything I want from an RPG pod - great pacing, good balance between mechanics and narrative, hilarious dialogue, they get serious when they need to be, and holy crap things get emotional at times! Plus the voice acting is great and the chemistry between the group is on point. Give Glass Cannon Pod a listen, you won't regret it!

Combined with D&D is for nerds, this is the best podcast around.
The best roleplaying, story, and general banter there is. This saved me from a depressing summer and I still love them now.
Just got this recommended to me by a friend in my gaming community.
Started listening to have something to do whilst sat in my car on my way to work.
So glad I did as this is a great way of spending an hour or two. The four guys have obviously spent a lot of time together and the interplay between the four is brilliant.
I have about a years worth of episodes to catch up on, so looking forward to hearing what happens to the four characters as I race to catch up!!
I'm very late to the party but this is an inspirational cast that's gotten me to dust off my dice once more.
