Hello, Love Your Work listeners, those who still have this pod in your feeds – thank you for staying subscribed!
I do not have a new episode for you, per se, though I've certainly thought about making new episodes, the bandwidth hasn't been there, because I have been long and hard at work on my next book, Finish What Matters!
In short, you can buy the preview edition at https://kdv.co/fwmpre, but also let me tell you about it.
Yes, after all the talk I made on this show about the subject of finishing projects, after all the mini episodes I published with various ideas such as the project halfpipe, the foundation effect, and Leonardo and Raphael, I finally have something ready to show you.
Ironically, it has taken me a very long time to finish – or at least get close to finishing – this book. I thought I had the answers going into this one, but after digging deep into why projects – creative projects specifically – don't get finished, I have learned so much.
Basically, there are really good reasons we don't always finish what matters. The creative process is open-ended, some of us have more open-ended cognitive styles, and we just don't know if finishing is going to be worth it! So it's no wonder we succumb to shiny object syndrome and struggle with motivation, and second-guess ourselves when we receive criticism.
I have surveyed you in the hundreds, I've interviewed you by the dozens. I have studied the great creators throughout history, I have traveled to Italy to immerse myself in the worlds of Leonardo and Raphael. Most important, I have locked myself in a cabin in the mountains, pondering these obstacles to finishing, and what to do about them.
And now, after five years of work, I have something ready to show you. I have a publicly announced schedule of deadlines by which I will deliver to you every chapter. I have on the calendar a lecture series through which to share these concepts, and even a small-group finishing cohort to help a handful of you get a project done in Q1.
So if you are interested, please visit kdv.co/fwmpre to learn more and buy the Preview Edition. This is the third and FINAL book in the Getting Art Done series, which I started ten years ago, and which has taught me so much I can't believe. I cannot wait to share it with you, and I can hardly wait to speak to you again here or on some other podcast or some other podcast-like-thing at some date in the future.
Thank you, happy new year, and here's to you getting it done in Q1.

Lord Simon Jacobs

I listen to David's podcast almost exclusively in the car, mainly because I like to listen to something whilst I'm driving. It helps to keep me awake and focused on the driving. I would normally have listened to music but on one fateful day I decided to listen to my first ever podcast... It was Love Your Work.
What a podcast to choose as your first podcast, I was blown away.
My driving time has now gone from vapid travelling A to B into a session of productivity and research. David has given me the gift of time affectively through his podcast.
David's hosting style, interviews and guest are just incredible. They're thought provoking whilst also being simplistic and attainable in nature. You never feel like you're listening to someone who knows everything and is preaching and they way that David masters that as well as he's guest is just excellent.
I could and have listened to the podcast for hours on end.
Instead of listening to uplifting music to get me pumped or in the mood to work I will listen to one of my favourite Love Your Work episodes, the list is about 20 episodes long.
On one occasion I did stray from listening in the car to listening elsewhere and that too was a great experience.
I was working on a recycling plant (I needed some extra money) and the job was a monotonous, smelly and dirty one, very labour intensive and deeply unstimulating, fortunately I was allowed to listen to 'music' or whatever and I chose this podcast. The hours seemed to fly by and a job I saw as a 'needs must' type of job soon turned into a learning experience.
David managed to turn two monotonous tasks (driving and a recycling plant job) into learning experiences and gave me inspiration and incredible new insights.
I can't recommend this podcast enough.
Thank you David.

Loved the Seth Godin show

David is really likable and asks great questions - the kind of questions you're thinking about asking whilst you listen. He's done some wonderful episodes. I really enjoyed his podcast with Seth Godin and James Altucher. As someone who runs his own podcast, I found James Altucher's podcast prep ritual very useful! Keep it up David.

Insightful and Inspirational

I started listening to this Podcast a couple of weeks ago and have since listened to about 90% of the content. All of the interviews are top quality with very thoughtful questions and inspiring guests! The smaller episodes are also great insights into how seemingly insignificant changes can help adjust your outlook on life and improve things for the better.
Would definitely recommend anyone who has an interest in creativity or human behaviour to get stuck in and listen away!

After listening to Tim Ferris I was looking for another similarly inspiring podcast. This one more than fit the bill.

Changing my brain on every listen.

One of a couple of podcasts I listen to in binge format. Back to back as often as I can. Brilliant insights into ways to alter your perspective. I can't recommend this enough.

Great interviews, great insights

Listening to some of these interviews feels like cheeting – people who are top of their game telling you in plain English some of the things they do in order to be the best of the best – If I manage to implement 5% of the stuff in this podcast I will be an incredibly high performer.
