I found this podcast during the first couple of weeks of university, wherein I was living far away from home, in a brand new city where I knew no one. Needless to say, I felt homesick, isolated, and very lonely quite a lot of the time. But very quickly, after only a few episodes, the voices of Karen and Georgia became familiar and comforting, and listening to their witty, honest, and raw conversations felt like I was listening to two friends; friends who welcomed me into the community of true crime enthusiasts that I wasn’t really aware existed before. The tragic and macabre nature of the stories covered are handled with respect and empathy, and although it sometimes needs fact-checking, it’s clear that everything said comes from a genuine place of care and interest.
Aside from the true crime aspect, the frankness with which both hosts speak about mental health is so important and grounding for everyone affected in some way or another by similar experiences. The amount of laughter, intrigue, comfort, and strength I have found through being a fan of this podcast cannot be understated, and for that I am forever grateful to MFM.
