I’ve listened to a fairly wide selection of spooky, paranormal or supernatural podcasts but WeirdDarkness is by far the best. The topics do vary from unsolved crimes, personal accounts of paranormal experiences, ghost stories, demons and murders but always with that trademark Weird vibe. Darren has a great eye for the content he includes and the production values are probably the best of any podcast out there regardless of the content.
He has a great voice, again one of, if not the best I’ve heard on a podcast and it’s perfect for the creepier tales.
The truly unique element is that Darren is a gifted storyteller. It took me a while to realise that each tale wasn’t actually his own experiences being recalled. Regardless of who wrote each piece he has the ability to deliver it with the most perfect conversational, educational and believable delivery. I know he’s not infallible as he often includes a blooper reel at the end with a tricky pronunciation that temporarily got the better of him.
I’ve listened to the entire backlog and I can still listen to a new episode on my hour long cycle to work as he releases one every day. EVERY DAY!!! How many other podcasts of this calibre can say that? None that I know of.
A particular like of mine is that at the end of each show he has a little segment he begins with “and now that we are coming out of the dark..” where he reads a short bible verse. Some listeners have really taken umbridge with this but for me, and considering some of the darker content, I take it as something of a brief cleansing and I appreciate his duty of care on us, as the listeners, when he does it.
The reason I know some listeners don’t like it? He’s not afraid to read out a bad review. That on its own is something that I’ve never heard another broadcaster do and he does it with respect and with fairness.
God bless you Darren. You must be the hardest working podcaster out there.
