Description

Trojan War: The Podcast is a serialized telling, in contemporary language, of the myriad stories from Greek mythology that together comprise the greatest epic of Western culture: the story of the Trojan War. All the great characters from Homer’s Iliad are here – Achilles, Helen of Troy, Odysseus, the Olympian Gods – and all the famous moments from the story – the Trojan Horse, The Judgement of Paris and Achilles Heel. Episode after episode, Jeff Wright, the storyteller, delivers a conversational, fast-paced, literate, and addictive, performance.

I’m 6 episodes in and this is brilliant. A wonderful story that is brought to life by the narrators enthusiasm and his really excellent story telling skills.
Makes you jump straight in to the next episode because he brings it all to life so well.
Highly recommend.

Great podcast. Like the way Jeff covers the story arc, bringing in the different sources. Also really enjoyed the deep dive at the end of each episode.

A very good and informative podcast. I had a really enjoyable time listening to it all! Would say that the new Odyssey story is really interesting but the voices he tries to do are a little annoying and jarring, would rather he returned to the original format with a more narrative feel than an audiobook style.

Riveting podcast

Quite by accident I stumbled on this podcast and was so pleased that I did, it's kept me engrossed through hours of DIY and has been informative, entertaining and fun. My daughter's also started to listen to it and is completely enraptured, I'd highly recommend it and am sad that it's over, well doen Jeff, thank-you so much

This is a first rate podcast. Whether you love classics or are just after a great story, well told, this is so worth adding to your playlist. I originally was just searching for a podcast on Iphigenia but when I’d listened to that episode I went back to ep.1 and binge listened to them all over a weekend.
Jeff tells the story of the Trojan war in a highly entertaining, but extremely illuminating, fashion. And then provides a commentary to explain anything that might be unclear /could be interpreted in a different way. What more could you want?!
I’ve listened to all of the episodes at least twice. Am very much looking forward to hearing his take on the Odyssey.

Can’t describe how much I’m enjoying this podcast. I have a decent knowledge of the story but the way it’s told is both informative and wonderfully entertaining. The deep dive after each episode where Jeff explains the variations in the story and issues is great too. Thanks so much!

If all you know about the Trojan War Epic is that wooden horse, then this is a treat. I was fortunate to study bits of Homer’s Odyssey and the Iliad ( yes in that order) at High School and loved it. Revisiting it all again in my middle age and all because of the imminent BBC/Netflix production called ‘Troy fall of a city’ which I have the horrible feeling is going to be a hash.

Great for those familiar and new to this monumental conflict

What an incredible work! I have never heard the story of the Trojan War in such an insightful and entertaining way. Even to readers of the original pieces, this podcast will add refreshingly new perspectives and background information. Once started, listeners won't be able to stop and devour episode by episode... Jeff, please do us the favour and present the Odyssee next!

An Excellent Podcast.

This podcast is a very good and quick introduction to the Greek myths which make up the Trojan War Cycle. The narrator is an excellent narrator and will often infuse the overall theme of the cycle with contemporary social analogies, which the listenership can relate to. However, if you are after a serious academic discussion, you might be best looking to the free courses from Yale or LA Trobe University.
As an academic who based his Master's dissertation studying Early Iron Age culture in Greece, the only negative criticism I have, is that the narrator often confuses myth with history and that he is ignorant of the cycles transmission and the Greek value terms which they imbue. By his own admission his background is in reading literature, and this shows up in the post commentary section when discussing Greek cultural norms such as xenia, agon or tîmê.
However the podcast is a good beginner’s level introduction to the ancient Greek world, and the narrator’s analysis of the themes of Greek mythology is insightful. A thoroughly enjoyable and easy listen.

An accessible and engaging telling of the story, as well as a great introduction and companion guide, with enough context, background and - if required - drilling down into detail to satisfy anyone interested in this venerable, legendary epic.
