Archive 81 is a podcast. It is also one of the most interesting creative works I have experienced in any medium. The use of sound is innovative, immersive, and at times horrifying. Each season brings fresh viewpoints, new atmospheres and unexpected, often startling revelations about the worlds the characters inhabit. They pay their actors, and it shows! You'll need a strong stomach at times, but if this sounds like your thing, or you are after a new experience, give it a go. But maybe not bedtime listening...
Archive 81 is a fiction podcast about horror, cities, and the subconscious.
New episodes will be released every other Wednesday.
Start from "01 - A Body In A New Place"
This is way out there weird and crazy but in a good way.
I really never know what is going to happen next, but this is so well done that I care about finding out.
Great audio drama! Original concept with all the fun of a giant conspiracy. If you like podcasts like Tanis or Sayer, you'll enjoy this.
The production value, music and acting on this is spectacular. Each season brings something different and I’ll happily wait for more.
Incredible writing, incredible sound design, incredible music, incredible acting - so freaking good (and scary) y’all should defo listen to this
Unfortunately I can’t explain how good this podcast is you simply have to listen for your self it’s FANTASTIC JUST LISTEN
I listen to a lot of audio drama - like, a lot. There’s basically nothing like this out there. If you’re looking for something surreal, creepy and completely and utterly unpredictable, 100% this is the pod for you
The first season is good but once it really gets going and hits the second season, this is fantastic. Update: The third is excellent too!
An amazing concept, i suggest you listen right away!
Amazing podcast, which creepy atmosphere and scares.
If you enjoy horror, audio dramas, science fiction or just good story telling, then you need to be listening to this podcast.
The series one tapes were fascinating. Took a little while to get into it, but by show two really enjoy and listened to all of series 1 back to back.
After following a set of great podcasts which I’d recommend Alice isn’t Dead, We’re alive, MarsCorp then Deep Vault which lead me to this series - which is really quite good.
Not got into series 2 yet... but Ser2 ep1 hard to get into. Fingers crossed
I love this.
I really love this.
It's weird and intriguing and strange and funny and just superb.
If your into quirky supernatural or mysteries just have a listen.
Dan takes on what seems to be the dullest job imaginable, listening to a dusty archive of audio tapes. However, it's not long before reality begins to blur at the edges. Great pod.
I really wasn't sure about this, because the mention of "found footage" and "horror" totally triggers me. But I am so glad I tried it. I am late to the party, but wow. This podcast is well written & acted and so intriguingly creepy. I get totally lost in it because even the occasional advert is done in character. Thank you for this gem!!
I was sceptical about the total change of direction this series took in the first couple of episodes of the new season but it keeps me coming back for more each episode anyway. The first season now seems like more of a prelude to the new one now. The creators have done a great job building a very weird world on the foundations of a relatively mundane one with weird veins running through. Can't wait to see where it goes from here.
Scary and intelligent, funny and heartwarming, inclusive yet not using minorities as pure accesories; Archive 81 is as close to perfect as a Podcast can get. Season 1 blends into season 2 perfectly, with new ideas not interrupting the already established character development and careful designed atmosphere. Archive 81 also manages to pull off a mysterious podcast with several moving parts all running at the same time with incomprehenable ideas without coming off as pretentious or deliberately confusing in order to cover lack of plot at any time.
Really great story and keeps you hooked. I blasted through these in a few days and was sad it came to an end so quick...
Really creepy and immersive, with lovely execution! Original ideas done amazingly well, always gives me the shivers! Can't wait for the next season!
A poor-man's Black tapes or Tanis.
The original story and the eerily creepy atmosphere completely immerse you from the moment you hit play.
It's spooky, occasionally gripping, and well produced, but Archive 81 certainly doesn't live up to the likes of The Black Tapes or Welcome to Night Vale in terms of interesting characters or proper pacing. It feels a little rushed and unlike with the aforementioned podcasts, the narrator is dislikable to the point where it hinders engaging with the story. That being said, it's great for a listen if you've run out of podcasts to get you through work like me. If you need something new, give it a go, and see if the wonky writing is something you can look past.
Brilliantly strange,I only listen to this in the middle of the night. So should you.
This podcast starts off strong and continues to get better as the episodes go on.
If you like The Black Tapes you'll love this.
Found this podcast on a bit of a whim, listened to the first episode and made it through all 7 episodes available so far in a morning. Brilliant story, enough to keep you well and truly hooked. Episodes are a great length, definitely worth the listen. Can't wait for more!!
For me it's the very high production values across the board that impresses so much. I mean wow. Super creepy stupidly original idea that deserves your immediate attention so go listen.
This is superb. Genuinely odd enough to make one slightly uncomfortable, but not difficult to listen to. I must go, I can hear the song again...
It started off really good, it was creepy and mysterious. Until ratty came into the scene. The really silly squeaking sounds ruined it for me. If you can get past that you'll be fine, if not like me you'll listen to a could of episodes and won't bother. Shame, this could of been better.
Listened to all the current episodes in the course of an afternoon, really exciting stuff, looking forward with anticipation to the next episode
The way this podcast is done is phenomenal it's keeps you wondering what is true and what is part of your own imagination. Great pod cast = subscribers
Wow, I love this podcast - I admire the way this story is unfolding and feel highly invested in the central disappearance and all the mysteries in the apartment building. I'm truly excited! Voices and sound design excellent. I hope this is on the iTunes charts so more people find it, and the creators keep adding more episodes. Really wonderful.
Intriguing story, with good acting even Ratty...to a point. Looking forward to how the story evolves and develops.
A very good podcast building an intriguing universe! More please!
Nicely intriguing, and with enough variation in the weird that it's always interesting; can't wait to find out what's going on.
This podcast is so creepy and unsettling...it's got me completely hooked! It also seems very well produced and all the voice actors are doing a wonderful job, can't wait for more!
Creepy and intriguing. I'm looking forward to hearing what happens next!
Would definitely recommend this podcast. Episode lengths are just right and each one has a creepy and unsettling feel to it. Similar to the faux journalistic podcasts but the found footage element is an interesting new take. Fans of The Black Tapes, Limetown or The Message should give this a try. Can't wait for the next episode!
I've only just discovered this and can already tell I'm going to love it. Already subscribed!
Can't wait to hear more!
