220. Burning For Love

220. Burning For Love

Time: 1:16:05
Isn’t it beautiful when blokes just care? Once again our golden generation bails us out of cricketing dystopia in ways “everyday” Australians understand. Forget our systemic sleepwalk into decline, what we really want to know is: who is the alpha? The answer is neither Cummins nor JL, and may surprise you. Elsewhere, blokes continue the eternal quest for social capital, but this time they’re thieving real capital (allegedly), according to Victoria Police. In the old days, focused work on the chest and triceps would do the trick. Nowadays you apparently need bulk sheets to be loved. Separately, Chris Gayle made 95 red in some wheelie bin shit in Dandenong. The PMs XI played, numbers were ascribed to names, and we refuse to know anything about the West Indies. The Strikers are WBBL champions after the Sixers crumbled, begging the question: was there simply too much sun? At least the Sixers still engender safety - the NSW men are weaker than ever and we argue the nation should be concerned. Other countries are playing some cricket, too, and they’re given due respect on this show (about 90 seconds), before the show eventually gives way to material that matters: what strategies exist for minors in team tubs when there’s a bloke called “Felly”?

The Great Men

Simply the greatest cricket podcast going around. Even better when England are good and Australia are bad

“Good gear”

Incredible podcast and Pez and Higgo are brilliant. They're relentless with their content and have nailed the balance between comedy and insightful cricket journalism. I have been a Patreon for over a year and would recommend it to anyone that listens to the Pod, not only for the content but just to support what they're doing. Thanks Pez and Higgo for providing great content in such a strange few years.

A Pom writes

This is a difficult review to write. I’m not used to finding anything remotely amusing from Australia apart from that chap Mick Lewis who went for 113 against the Jaapies in THAT ODI game back in the day. That WAS funny. Since then, not so much. Sadly as I go about my business in public, AirPods in etc, I find myself sniggering and spluttering, coughing (not Covid) and outright laughing along whilst cursing myself for giving the very amusing hosts access to my eardrums. I couldn’t possibly explain why I was laughing to non-cricketers. I’d have to shake my head and mime being out of breath after a quickly taken three to wide long on rather than try. But I’d urge anyone who’s ever dreamt of raising themselves above mediocrity and failed in this beautiful game to give it a listen. It’s our church - in a podcast.

Everything’s perfect but one small thing - 1 star

Higgos and Pez are fantastic not only when interviewing guests as they use a comedic, light hearted approach to interviewing people but the parts where they speak to one another as well. They’re both hilarious and inspiring in the way they go about their podcast so authentically.
It’s a shame that Higgos is such a good looking rooster whilst still being 10 times funnier than me on my best day and Pez is both intellectually superior to myself whilst also being hilarious. 1 star.

Boys without coats

A great one for all those who identify as BOYS and those who don’t identify as BOYS.
Informative, self deprecating and philosophical; it’s fundamentally a cricket podcast but dabbles in all fields of life.
The BOYS don’t take kindly to the coats of life and rightly so.
Keep up the great work!

A must if you love cricket

Likeable Aussies? I didn’t think I’d ever find some. Great to listen to an Aussie perspective that doesn’t totally preclude other countries.
I also like the very informal tone.

Good fun, great interviews, amazing guests

Good fun, great interviews, amazing guests.
...but boys, get rid of the politics and woke crap please. Can’t we just enjoy cricket and a laugh without having politics / woke crap shoved down our throats.

Still ok

Not as good without Dave Edwards.
Terribly woke and horrendously progressive on occasion but still funny enough.

A good little podcast.

Great podcast where you can get your weekly fix on cricket, circuits, centuries, chops, salads, rigs, pipes, chests, levers, big boys and more.
Awesome.

Great content, rubbish sound quality

First listen. Loved the content but had to keep turning the volume up and down between exchanges. Stick the final mix of the pod cast through a limiter guys!

Episode 44

Bugger me, that was a good episode!
My cricketing history couldn’t be more dissimilar to that characterised by this podcast; deeply average school team bowling, a year in the under-13s of a North London cricket club (primarily a ruse to avoid joining the scouts and to learn how to smoke), a stint as scorer at my dad’s club in order to procure a weekly pint of shandy and a bag or two of crisps, and a mortifying innings and one humbling over for a pub team in my mid-thirties.
No experience related to rigs, pipes, salads, circuits, or any other Grade Archetype, and yet somehow this podcast remains strangely compelling.

An introduction to the Aussie life

Great cricket podcast, especially when Australia is losing. Best sports interviews around - genuinely hilarious.

Top podcast

I love this channel guys, Top work and so so relatable. I’m based in the U.K. and have never even heard of grade cricket until this podcast but the similarities to amateur cricket here in UK are scary.
You could definitely make improvements on the sound levels and quality, the sound of phone in interviews wears thin after a while.
Throw downs and ask TGC always has me in stitches. Stay whitty gents.

The BEST podcast out there

Absolute top class. I have literally never laughed out loud so much...ever. I'm in hysterics on the tube every morning and keep getting looks. I am from London and have absolutely no idea who these guys are but they are brilliant. Genuinely can't say thanks enough. Waiting excitedly for my 'the grade cricketer' book to arrive now. Please keep up the great work. Thank you

Top class

A very funny take on the wonderful world of cricket, well worth a listen even if you're a Brit who's never played Grade in his life. Slightly darker and more clever than you may initially think which is Jon as thing at all.
1 minor criticism, sound is a bit quiet, turn the mics up a touch.

Great pod, way too quiet though

Really enjoy the podcast but it's waaay too quiet. Can't hear it on public transport. Boost the volume a bit please!
