If I could have dreamed up a podcast, this would be it.

I absolutely love the NYT Popcast. It’s the only place you can find this level of analysis of this broad a range of genres, covering so much of popular music from hip hop and pop to country and emo. I find Jon Caramanica a charming and charismatic host and the guests are a really good, often female (yay!) mix of writers from the New York Times and elsewhere. I’ve learnt so much from listening and have devoured the archive. I even listen to episodes where I don’t actually like the band or genre they discuss.

FYI my joint first other favourite is In Our Time, which covers lots of topics in great detail and is a similar sort of pleasure for me: expert but entertaining discussion on a wise range of topics. Would listen to a Bragg/Caramanica crossover podcast.

Ok I know it's obnoxious to use words like definitive when discussing art, but this is a podcast of singular excellence. A podcast for people who love music and are literate.

Presenters with engaging opinions, expressed with passion and intelligence.

In a sea of music commentary that is banal and doesn't excite, the hosts with their broad examination of every genre add genuine knowledge to your musical life.
