S-Town is a new podcast from Serial and This American Life, hosted by Brian Reed, about a man named John who despises his Alabama town and decides to do something about it. He asks Brian to investigate the son of a wealthy family who's allegedly been bragging that he got away with murder. But when someone else ends up dead, the search for the truth leads to a nasty feud, a hunt for hidden treasure, and an unearthing of the mysteries of one man's life.
Perfect, fascinating, compelling, winding story to keep your mind from the tedium and pain or running long distance.

S Town
Bloody brilliant. Poor dog was walked lots, just so I could hear another one. Marvellous story and wonderfully executed.

Utterly superb
No this isn’t Serial, it’s not the traditional investigative podcast. So what! It is the most beautifully moving, sensitive and intelligent portrayal of an extraordinary person - John B, his circle of friends and a small town in Alabama. It’s hard to do justice to the beauty of this podcast. Just listen - the team did an incredible job.

John B needs his own podcast!
I was absolutely gripped by John B and his voice, the tales of the town and the murder story!

Best podcast ever
This is by far the best podcast I have ever heard. Absolutely outstanding

Not at all what I was expecting...
Beautifully created. I have so many words, but I don’t want to give anything away... What a journey I certainly was taken on. Excellent!

No thanks
A podcast fueled by Schadenfreude. Straight northern elites wanting a glimpse into the world they’ve constructed of the south. It dares to ask the question how to lgbt people survive down south. It’s answer: they don’t. The real answer: we can thrive anywhere.

Kept me interested throughout
Interesting characters and twists through this story. Worth listening to.

Loved it
Great podcast. Unexpected story

Unbeatable unpredictable experience
I recommend this to people who have never listened to podcasts to get them in to podcasts. To quote my friend ‘I drove the long way to work’ to get more S Town in!

Gripping
I’m late to the party but I heard an Adam Buxton podcast that recommended S-town so I gave it a go. I’m glad I did and I’m sad now that it’s ended and I don’t know what happened next in their lives! Have now started to listen to Serial.

Addictive listening
Story telling at its best, unexpected and beautiful

Great
Don’t like Rita though she’s full of lies

Obsessed
I love this podcast. So much so, I’m listening to it for a second time and probably will again in the future. I love Brian’s reporting style, I love the Alabama accents, the insight into lives very different from my own. I love John. I love that he was quite clearly a genius, tortured by his own gifted intellect. History has seen many.. and we will see more. Sadly these sorts aren’t supposed to stick around as long as the rest of us - they’re just too goddamn special.

A gripping story
This is a worthy listen, it’s has you on a roller coaster of emotions ! One minute your laughing, then your feeling the pain about John and Tyler And the bond they have and the torture John suffered to want to then end his own life in the way he did. And for the relatives that turned up out off no where felt just so wrong ! I hope John is in peace now and Tyler gets a break !

Absolutely Brilliant
I thought that this was a brilliant series. I think the people who criticise that ‘it’s not really about a murder’ have just missed the point. It is a beautifully-written, excellently-reported, and mesmerising insight into the amazing life of John B. I thoroughly enjoyed this series and would recommend it to anyone.

Beautiful
A fabulous story about a fascinating man with heartache along the way.

Soul destroyingly depressing
Whilst this is a beautiful podcast in many ways, I’ve had to stop listening because it’s so utterly depressing. Human nature at its best and worst, but sadly the worst wins out.

Compelling
Compelling listening as this story unfolded. Taken to a world I would never have been introduced to otherwise. John B. is an amazing and complicated character. Told beautifully. Listen and let these characters into your life.

Woah
What a good podcast! And what a peculiar guy John B was! (R.I.P 😪) this is a very intriguing podcast, with a decent, respectful host. It gives a big insight to a slightly weird, small group of people in a small town. Also there’s only a few, so it’s defo worth a listen! :)

S town
S town is the zenith of everything a podcast can achieve. It is a masterpiece.

S Town
Such a fascinating and riveting story from the get go with lots of twists and turns that feel as if they’re leaping straight out of a novel. John B is an interesting and complex character with such a brilliant mind. I was sorry it ended the way it did but he won’t ever be forgotten. Great podcast

I've LOVED This
I am holding onto the final episode in this series cos' I don't want it to be over and done with. It's been utterly fascinating. I had no idea where it was taking us after hearing the first couple of episodes but I ended up falling a little in love with John and had to keep listening. I just finished episode VI and I was sobbing and I am so upset it's almost finished. A terrific job and well worth a listen. Just don't ask me what it's about :)

Not what I expected but I liked it very much
Fantastic podcast which I enjoyed listening to very much. Couldn’t put my ear jacks down for long!

Much more than a "twist"
What the team have made here is nothing short of a masterstroke. The tale of John B is one of contrasts, the dark and light, the funny and the macabre. How the episodes play out leave you wanting more, and the final moments bring a difficult story to a beautiful close. I can't recommend enough and can't wait to see what the team pick next for a series.
Side notes: The production is AAA standard, the music is perfect and songs become calling cards for characters, moments, peaks and falls. This is so hard to do, and I take my hat off to the team.
Thanks!

Brilliant!
Starts as one story. Finishes as another. You couldn’t make it up. Intrigue, humour and emotion. Wonderful.

Some of the most beautiful audio storytelling I’ve ever heard
Incredible

Well worth a listen!
Fascinating, tragic, poignant, heart wrenching, surreal and often funny. An investigation into a murder that never happened becomes a rollercoaster of emotions through every twist and turn of John B’s life. A truly remarkable tale. Don’t deprive yourself of this podcast and it’s story. WOW

Very good
This is a compelling, well told, intruguing tale. And the twist is almost unbearable. So well produced.

Beautifully made and sensitive. Stunningly addictive!

Lasting effect
I listened to this podcast Months ago and I still think about John B McLemore regularly. I feel he will stay with me for a very long time. I think the podcast also showed how easy it is for things to become misconstrued when different people think they are in the right but not willing to listen or take on board what the other is saying, making everyone’s lives miserable in the process, including their own.
**Spoiler**
I think the execution of the podcast was incredible and I feel it’s just how John B McLemore would have wanted it. His was a tragic story of a very clever, eccentric man who may have never truly been himself.

Cant wait to listen to the 6th chapter
I've not listened all the way through this series, but I'm ready to give my opinion. This is gripping, sad, entertaining and educational in every sense. The music is great. Basically, great story-telling.

Listened to this while doing some long motorway drives and was absolutely hooked.

Wonderful
So atmospheric, it tells this highly unusual story in such a compelling and emotionally sympathetic way. Beautiful.

Promises so much......
Started off with so much promise but after episode three it loses it s momentum like a deflated balloon. So many unanswered questions, so many loose ends and yet so much repetition. Disappointing as a whole.

Sensational
I listened to all 7 episodes in one day, I just couldnt walk away. Gripping, heartbreaking & beautiful.

Brilliant
So interesting and beautifully presented.

Not worth it
Self indulgent journalism at its worse, asks loads of questions, answers none, changes directions but resolves nothing. Not worth it at all.

Moving and poignant
A moving and poignant account of one man’s life. I loved it from start to finish. John B Macklemore is a legend.
