The seeds of good content, but messy execution, feels like it’d have worked as a TV documentary but without visuals the format feels convoluted. Too ‘magaziney’.

This series really made me question and think about my own values and beliefs.

I’ve listened to each episode many times & each offers such sensible global knowledge & history, combined with a sensitivity to each belief system. If only my education was delivered in such an engaging way. Pure delight.

Informative interesting and much needed look at huge infuence of religion on our culture. Maybe a bit too formal in presentation style.

A truly enriching series, Neil MacGregor expands our understanding and respect of others beliefs and history with marvellous examples and in discussion with a variety of thoughtful experts.

Bite size episodes on a whole range of faith based topics. Fascinating.

This has been the perfect accompaniment to all my car journeys recently. I even listen to episodes more than once, such is their draw.

The look at societies through shared beliefs and how that affects our sense of community

and even of a “them” and “us” is a brilliant mirror up to society today and the intolerance fuelled by misunderstanding our past.

An insightful series. If listening to this series alone could make the world a better place.

Fascinating stuff. A dispassionate look at systems of belief (and non-belief) and their interaction with politics and society. I've always liked Neil M's series and this one includes some great conversations with engaging experts including Mary Beard, Diarmaid MacCullogh and Jago Cooper.

Thanks to this podcast I’m now extremely keen to visit the exhibition as soon as possible. Each episode is brief yet fascinating.

Great coverage, wide-ranging, open-minded, deeply researched .... what is not to like?! As a Series 2 (hint) I would love to hear something that projects into the future. What will living with the gods look like in 10 to 100 years' time? OK; so the British Museum may not be such a great source for such a series, but it's just waiting to be made ....

These 15-minute snapshots are breathtaking in their sweep and their minute detail; each one transports the listener to the location and time being ‘shown’. Neil Mc Gregor has a manner that is both informative and inclusive; another excellent series, thoroughly recommended.

This is another brilliant podcast from Neil MacGregor and Radio 4. Neil is so eloquent and explains complex ideas in an easy to understand way. I really liked the way the series used objects from the museum to illustrate the ideas of religion throughout the history of society. I also loved the way the series approached the subject. It is clever, insightful and definitely worth a listen.

A gripping mixture of anthropology, history and religion,this has both style and huge amounts of substance. Radio at its very best

This is my 2nd series with this guy. 100 objects was a very good series but this is evven better. For me the program length, detail and content is spot on. He talks and interviews in a very engaging way.

Interesting view of religions through objects and the interlink with history, politics and society in general. Really enjoyed it!

Absolutely compelling and addictive I stumbled upon this series and throughly enjoyed the gallop through history

Really eye opening and enjoyable series from start to finish. Well researched, well presented, and well worth a listen.

Having arrived late to this series, I have listened to the last and first episodes then downloaded all. Yet again NM achieves the perfect balance of his and others’ contributions and expertise. As with AHOTW & Shakespeare’s Restless World the broadcasts are a joy in which to be immersed. The fact that each episode seems too short only adds to their gem-like quality. I assume there will be a book in which I can loose myself and add it to the others in the series.

I particularly like GoatPeter’s lovely review. I laughed out loud and am still smiling.

Excellently researched, with an easy to understand narrative in each podcast that is paced for you to ponder your own opinions.

Neil McGregor does it again- teaches us what it is to be human. Brilliant.

Coincidentally, as I began to listen to this series I also started to read the latest Dan Brown novel, ‘Origin’. I realised that Neil MacGregor was describing in a rational, and properly academic, way what Dan Brown attempts to put into a fictional work through its principle protagonist, “Professor Robert Langdon of Harvard University”. I quickly abandoned the book and spent my time listening to the ‘Living with the Gods’ podcasts; they were far more enlightening. Need I say more in praise of Neil MacGregor’s approach?

Basically does a v good job at explaining why humans behave the way we do. Far reaching but in a simple clear format.

A shame there is not time to explore why partition in India and Tianeman Square were aberrations

Another interesting and informative series from Radio 4. The way Neil McGregor breaks each aspect down to a manageable part makes what could be too broad a topic, easy to grasp

It is so good to listen to something which enhances my understanding of a topic, sheds new light on an area I thought I understood, makes exciting philosophical connections and teaches me something new. Neil MacGregor’s latest series does all this and more! Thank you.

Really enjoying this series, as I did with his earlier ‘100 objects’ series. MacGregor tells each account with such clarity and makes connections across history and culture that are fascinating.

Yet again another fascinating series introduces me to a topic about which I know very little.

NM is a top geezer. Love to hear him speak about stuff. He’s well clever and says stuff nice.
