The Death of Joan Robinson Hill- Part 2

The Death of Joan Robinson Hill- Part 2

Time: 1:34:37
Part 2/2 - On March 19, 1969, thirty-eight-year-old Houston socialite Joan Robinson Hill died at Sharpstown General Hospital from what doctors at the time believed was flu-related symptoms. Hill’s body was quickly taken to the mortuary and embalmed before an autopsy could be performed, violating Texas law and undermining any attempts determine the cause of Joan’s death. Nevertheless, Joan’s father, a wealthy oil tycoon, believed his daughter’s death to be a homicide, used his influence to have her remains exhumed and had not one, but two additional autopsies performed to determine the cause of death.
Despite conflicting reports from the pathologists regarding a cause of death, Joan’s father was eventually successful in convincing the district attorney that her death was no accident, but was in fact murder committed by her husband, John Hill. After two unsuccessful attempts to convince a grand jury of John’s guilt, the district attorney finally convinced a third grand jury that John Hill had intentionally contributed to Joan’s death and he was charged with “murder by omission,” a first in the history of the Texas courts.
John Hill was put on trial for the murder of his wife in the winter of 1971, but the jury would never get a chance to weigh in on his guilt or innocence. In September of 1972, after one mistrial and several delays leading up to a re-trial, John Hill was murdered by an intruder who’d broken into his home. Although investigators believed Hill’s murder to have been a robbery gone wrong, many in Houston suspected Joan’s father, believing his son-in-law had evaded justice, had paid to have John Hill killed, leaving the deaths of Joan and John Hill an enduring mystery.
As always, thank you to the fantastic David White, of Bring Me the Axe Podcast, for research assistance

I don’t think I’ve ever left a podcast review, but I had to. I adore Ash and Alaina, they both have the kindest hearts that just shine through…not to mention being hilarious and informative. It feels like listening to friends. Despite the content, Morbid is such a comfort listen, and they get me through a lot of bad days.

i love this podcast so much it makes me emotional lol
have been listening since early 2019 and as a young listener have grown up listening in a way
the way ash and alaina talk is so personable and the storytelling is top tier
i would only say maybe more modern episodes would be interesting?

Got about 20 episodes in. They have absolutely no empathy for victims just laugh the whole way through.
Typically American as they can’t pronounce even the simplest words and continuously say “like”.
Find a dictionary ladies and maybe google how to pronounce words you’re unsure of before recording and airing your ignorance.

Have listened to whole back catalogue.
The amount of effort these two put into research- hats off. Intelligent and hillarious.
The best true crime podcast I’ve listened to.
Humour and banter to intersperse the heavy topics.
As a geriatric millennial I’ve found my people and love the shout outs.
Highly recommend!

Seriously addictive…

Found these ladies through another Fantabulous true crime (Redhanded) and have been bingeing whilst recovering a smashed ankle ever since. These girls know how to weave a yarn!! Between true crime - solved and unsolved - and the occasional Spookfest of otherworldly - they won’t let you down. I’d give 10 stars if I could to make up for any sub-par review…! 💯❤️

Annoying chat for 1st 10 or so minutes, followed by long ads every 10mins. You can just get all the info from Wikipedia if interested in any of their subject episodes.

This has become my favourite podcast. The research level is impressive and the respect for victims always shines through. If I had any negative feedback it would only be that podcasts are not released on the date that it says it will be released. Like today, the Nutty Putty one says 16 November but it’s 16 November today and still not available.

Could the editors remove the extraneous 'likes' which punctuate this. It should cut a good 5 mins off the running time.

This is my all time favourite podcast. Alaina and Ash are hilarious but always respectful to the victim. The listener stories are an added treat, especially because you get the live reaction which undoubtedly has me in stitches. I binged the majority of episodes and am now gutted I have to wait for my weekly instalment. People complain about the swearing but they are talking my language so I really enjoy the sweariness. I worked with criminals for years and you have to find levity when immersed in darkness. Keep up the fantastic work ladies, your chemistry and story telling are priceless.

This podcast was recommended to me by a friend in August. Since then I have spent every day at work making my way through the episodes and can’t get enough! It’s everything I want in a true crime podcast; the way they can ease the tension in heavy moments yet are always respectful. It’s a fine line to tread yet they seem to do it with a natural ease.
I highly recommend this to anybody that has an interest in true crime, you won’t be disappointed.

Can’t even get past the first episode.
I’ve even tried a new episode but still can’t make it past 10 minutes or so.
They talk over each other constantly. Make completely inappropriate jokes, laugh the whole way through as if these murders/crimes are a joke.
Completely shocking behaviour and so incredibly annoying to listen to.

These two make crime feel fun, it’s lighthearted at times but serious in others. They’re very good at explaining certain technological aspects of a case such as things that happen in court or in a post-mortem. They can go off track at times but you can tell just how much research goes into this, the amount of books they read etc so for that reason alone it deserves 5 stars

I love it here

i have listened to many true crime podcasts and this is definitely one of the best ! , a duo of extremely entertaining presenters that can pull off telling the whole story of a crime(some pretty horrendous) but still remain entertaining funny and educational true crime shows are often melodic and autocratic giving facts in a A to Z style that becomes difficult to stay interested but Ash and Alaina deliver a description of relevant facts that tell the story but add there own sprinkle of style that is entertaining enough to keep you coming back for more
thank you ladies

I discovered this podcast via the rewatcher podcast (a must for buffy fans)….anyway I’m really enjoying this podcast and the way it’s presented in a narrative way. I listen to a lot of true crime podcasts and this has become one of my favourites, contrary to other reviews I really enjoy the chat and feel that it makes an interesting subject a little more light hearted and enjoyable to listen to. I can listen alone in the house and feel like I’m listening to friends, thanks for all the hard work! ❤️

Interesting cases slightly marred by American vocabulary. It’s becoming really annoying how often Americans use the word “literally”. Please stop. Also irritating how words like “very”, “really”, “incredibly”, “extremely”, etc are being replaced by the catch all word “super”. Super weird, super funny, super interesting and so on. Could you not do this. The show is borderline unlistenable.

I have been a loyal listener of Morbid since 2020, and have now listened to all of their episodes, and for good reason! Ash and Alaina are deadass the funniest people. However, occasionally their playful attitudes step over the boundary of hosting a true crime podcast, sometimes making it sound like high school girls gossiping. Otherwise, amazing podcast, and definitely still recommend to all of my friends😌

As a true crime fan, these ladies bring a perfect entertainment and informative combination.
The banter is great, the genuine questions Ash asks (on behalf of many of us), just hilarious but also the respect and compassion for the victims in the cases covered is evident from both of them.
By far, my favourite podcast.
Hope you come to London for a live show some day.

I have listened to morbid for years and I absolutely love it! I love the dynamic and how they are super respectful about the subject matter but also keep you laughing. The girls do an outstanding job of researching each case and ALWAYS pay tribute to them in such a beautiful way. I never write reviews, but whenever I look at the episodes it pisses me off when I see the fact there is even one 1 star review. Ignore it they are the best!

Worlds End murders - quite annoying how the hosts can’t take the time to figure out the pronunciation of one of the world’s most famous streets. For reference it’s “Princes” street - as in plural of “prince”. Why would you pronounce “princes” the same as “princess”?? Just lazy.

I really struggled to listen to these 2 obnoxious women laughing and joking about such a serious subject. It felt so disrespectful to victims. Just a couple of very unfunny people trying to be funnier than the other and both failing miserably. Going off topic to discuss aspects of their personal lives and interjecting with extraneous rubbish. Awful.

I love both Ash and Alaina and they’re story telling techniques ms topics are brilliant.
I’m not a fan of the listeners tales but it’s no bother, just skip them people if you don’t like them! But don’t think it should take away from the rating 🤍

Unsubscribing as I don’t think there ever has or ever will be an apology for the disgusting generalisation in the episode where the girl convinced her ex bf to shoot her. By being horrible about her peers, you literally victim-blamed children and I don’t think you realise how damaging your words were to listeners who have also lost people in their lives due to suicide.

I don’t need to be told ten million times to be nice to people or be kind to people. Also mothers are not perfect, we all have flaws because we be human! I hate that since partnering up with wondery this show has gone down hill faster than Eddie the eagle. I hate that Ash can’t pronounce anything and pathetically asks the other one “is that right?” I hate the 10 minute chats at the beginning. Worst of all how they are literally giving nothing back but profiting well from the victims. Other true crime pod casts donate so much money/air time to good causes… these two, not so much.

I just couldn’t get through the first 15 minutes of this show. There was so much unnecessary talking that has nothing to do with what the show was about. I LOVE long podcasts but can tell that this 1hr episode would have been 20 minutes about the case and 40 minutes rambling.

* update * I’ve finally unfollowed this poor quality podcast. There are much better ones out there. The story-telling has deteriorated so much, the lack of structure and constant tangents made it too much effort to try and listen.
As much as it’s your show, your success is based upon the effort you put in when you started, if that isn’t sustainable then something needs to change. Simply churning out the same poor quality material just won’t cut it. You’re coming across as lazy and after a quick buck. You really need to start listening to your audience…they’ll be gone soon and all you’ll be left with is Wondery wondering away from your agreement and a hapless bunch of crazed stans to grin maniacally with you as the ship goes down.
