Film podcast highlight of the week
This has quickly established itself as my favourite film podcast - each week I look forward to it, and eagerly await finding out which film is the chosen topic of conversation when it appears in my podcast list. I’ve learned that not having seen the movie in question isn’t a massive barrier to enjoying the discussion, as it sometimes can be with film podcasts. That said, it’s slightly more enjoyable when it’s about a film you’ve seen or are familiar with.
The episode choices to date have had sufficient range to keep things interesting and suggest that the series could run and run. The film selection that’s most made me double take thus far has been ‘Double Jeopardy’ - it didn’t have buzz before release, and after release it at best had an extreme longshot in one category - but the episode was still a fun listen.
The IMDb game at the end is an entertaining way to close, though both hosts are rather bad at it, and film geeks will likely be screaming out the answers long before our hosts! But that all adds to the fun.
Long may this series continue to run. (And please put Salma Hayek in the outro music because that song no longer sounds right without a deadpan “...and from Canada Water.”)
