In 2010, a soldier in her early 20s returns to the US from a deployment to Iraq - she’d been injured in a mortar attack. She and her husband settle into an apartment located on Fort Stewart, Georgia. They soon get pregnant, and are both beyond excited to be parents. But on July 17, all that excitement comes crashing down when the woman dies inside their on-base apartment. Her husband tells everyone he found her unresponsive, and that she died as a result of the injuries she sustained in Iraq. His story seems believable on the surface…until you find out how he spends the wife’s $500,000 life insurance payout. In episode 201, Jac, Alexis, and Billy detail the teenage years of Isaac Aguigui, his military career, and his marriage to Deirdre Wetzker, which ended in her death.

Favourite!

Honestly my most favourite True Crime podcast and I listen to a lot. Alexis’s research and writing is so well done and I love the way that the story flows and I love the original idea of the first degree. Billy is a legend and balances out Jac & Alexis. Jac is the glue that holds them all together! I without fail am always up to date on this podcast and now I’m a Patreon! (Patreon content is miles above other patreons I’ve seen!!!)

One of the best true crime podcasts out there!

With so many true crime podcasts available The First Degree has found it’s niche with first hand accounts which sets itself apart from the rest! Love Alexis, Jac and Billy, all such great hosts! The episodes are well researched, engaging and killing time brings the humour! Love it!

My god the breathing!!!

Have to give up because of indrawn breath every time one of the girl’s speaks. It’s awful. May try a later episode but can’t live with it.

Poor Billy

Interesting cases and the first degree angle is good one. However I have to agree with some of the reviews that say that the unprofessionalism from the women is a real shame, mostly what stings is how mean they can be when they talk to Billy, who clearly tries to move on from various personal digs and comments professionally. it comes across as catty and not hugely witty or clever. I’m a woman and love female led podcasts, even the MFM girls taking the mickey out of Steven doesn’t come across as mean but born from a place of affection.
Billy averts and carries on as best he can but it really comes across as a man hating in many of these episodes. Tough to listen to. Other than that it could be great.

Love

Love this podcast, it’s funny, insightful and thought provoking. Very different to other true crime podcasts, most of which I’ve heard. I also love the feeling of hanging out with friends, having a drink, the silliness, occasional slurring and I do NOT notice any heavy breathing or vocal fry 🤪🤣Thanks gang it’s brilliant.

This one’s for billy!

Any podcast/show with Billy Jensen’s involvement, is immediately a 5 star show for me. Super cool podcast hearing from people experiencing true crime first hand. (This review is in response to hearing you read them all, so hats off to you sir.)

Here for this….

Literally the highlight of my week, this trio get me through! I love how I feel like this podcast could be taking place in my kitchen, nothing is totally scripted like so many podcasts are but it’s still delivered with integrity 🖤

Best True Crime Podcast

I discovered this podcast after listening to “Unravelled LISK” and I love it. The stories are presented with empathy towards the victim(s) and there’s clearly a lot of research that goes into each episode. I love the banter between the three presenters and I really look forward to the “Killing Time” episode which comes out the day after the main show. Each of three presenters brings their own unique talents and perspective to the show and I think Alexis the Tank has a really sexy voice.

Yawn - sorry, would be good if you actually stayed on topic

I lose all interest because so often they go off topic and by the time I’m done trying to ignore the completely unrelated conversation - I’v lost interest. And what’s with the speed of the talking especially during adverts, it makes my head spin - way too much of both. Shame because if stayed on topic and didn’t do the crazy speed talk adverts - actually would be very good but I have lost interest so many times because of the unrelated rubbish talked about in between.

Scott and defund

What a shame. There was such an effort to tick all the correctness boxes that you spoilt it for me. By the way dropping murder squad too. Your first degree seems to blame everyone for Scott’s suicide by cop. She doesn’t hold herself accountable though. Someone that shares mental health issues seemed to have left Scott to his own demons. Cops need serious training and supervision and that would have been a great angle. The pursuit for wokeness does a disservice to Scott. Scott was an active voice in equality and was let down by lack of mental health support and shot by poorly trained cops. Better angle:

Female hosts are really annoying

I started listening to this podcast because I love Billy in The Murder Squad. Unfortunately, Alexis and Jac are so giggly and unprofessional and they're always eating or drinking, so you can often hear them smacking their lips or swallowing. It drives me insane! It's a shame, because the premise is really interesting and some of the contributors provide good insight into different cases, but I'm not sure if I can persevere with listening to it any more. I might have to source something else for the Lockdown walks

So, turn down the lights...

Absolutely love The First Degree! I came for the cases but I stayed for the brilliant chemistry of the trio - who I actually now feel like are my own group of true crime loving friends. Alexis’s ASMR style voice (Alexis Linkletter must NOT be stopped), Billy’s knowledge and Jac’s comedy are everything!
I recommend to all of my friends and even some strangers! Started listening in January 2019 and caught up so fast, that I ran out of episodes and started listening to them all again! The cases are always so interesting and so well told and I can never wait ‘til next Wednesday!

Podcast to look forward to each week

I thoroughly enjoy this podcast, it is one I look forward to listening to. Well paced, well researched and the hosts treat the difficult discussions respectfully. I like how their ‘first degree’ guest never fails to add additional insight. Hope you’re around for a long time!!!!

Disappointed

I really wanted to like this as I’m a big fan of Billy’s podcast the murder squad but he’s entirely overshadowed by the ladies. And not in a good way. The constant giggling while talking about murders, the lip smacking, and the over use of the word “like”is frustrating. I feel Billy spends much of his time going behind the women and correcting the absolute nonsense they let fall from their mouths so cavalierly. I feel some of the cases are really under researched, and the lack of basic knowledge from the women really shows. I get the impression everyone is just too busy and as a result the episodes are presented in a really half hearted way with Billy trying to steer the conversation back to the topic. It’s a shame as the cases are so interesting.

Now one of my go to’s

When anyone mentions they need podcast reviews this has become one of my OG recommendations! I love the well researched cases, the different angles you guys take on each story, and I honestly feel like I’m catching up with friends when I listen.
I wasn’t a fan of the constant ribbing of Billy at the beginning BUT now feel like I’d be the one joining in. I hope you guys will considering touring and come and visit us in the UK when all this craziness is over.

What is this!!!

I know the weird world of true crime is a strange place to begin with, but is giving tips to would-be murders the thing now?? Hearing you talk about what a killer should have done not to get caught is so disrespectful to the victims and the their families. Also, to all the other victims who can’t get justice because some idiot followed your advice. This is real life and real people. Do better and save the ‘i would have done it this to not get caught,’ on your personal texts/messages away from a public platform.
